I have both and thought I'd only keep the one I like more, but so far I still have both. If I had to choose one though I think I would choose the Sigma -- much smaller and lighter, slightly wider is overall more useful, a bit less cost, and I've also found the autofocus to be more reliable. The Viltrox just has the odd focus hiccup here and there and isn't bad but I do notice it. As for f/1.2 vs 1.4, there's almost no difference in light let in. Going from 1.4 to 1.2 on the Viltrox only ever so slightly brightens the center of the image but the corners might even get darker instead due to vignetting. Having said all that, there's something very pleasing about the Viltrox images. It does have more potential for bokeh and 40mm equivalent has a more interesting look to me (though it's only a slight crop from 35mm equivalent anyways). They're different enough to be able to enjoy both, especially since the Viltrox really is quite big and heavy. Also I dislike the aperture ring -- I'm not going to relearn muscle memory of controls for the one lens that has it, so it's just another moisture ingress point / accidental settings change waiting to happen. I want to try that Viltrox 75mm 1.2 next.

I have both lenses and like them both. However my go to out of the two is the Viltrox. I like having the confidence of the extra gaskets as I often shooting the rain. In fact my two favourite lenses are now the 27mm and the Viltrox 75mm.

Good comparison! Personally I'd go with the Sigma, partly because of the size and weight in addition to just being the right focal length - but also the price difference is HUGE in Denmark. The Viltrox is about 110£ more expensive than the Sigma!

Nice comparison, well structured

I bought the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 several weeks ago when it was on sale. I love the girth of it then when I got the bottom bracket for my a6700 it just came altogether ergonomically. Optically, I'm just blown away with the sharpness of this lens and how it has that 3D pop if you compose your subject well against the background.

Viltrox has a good track record of updating firmware to improve autofocus. They've been consistently releasing firmware updates for years. My favorite Viltrox lens was released 5 years ago, and it just got another firmware update a few days ago: "improve lens focus stability."

can you also compare the viltrox 27mm to signma 30mm? thanks

I have been loving shooting with the 24mm GM on my Sony ZV-E10II, 35mm focal length for the win! Great video and thoughts. Love what Viltrox is doing for sure.

Really impressive the performance of the latest Viltrox lenses! I'd say competition stimulates business, but it remains to be seen if especially Sigma is going to counter Viltrox, also in regards of their new small F1.7 lenses... I own the Sigma 23mm and like it a lot, and I'd like to see more APS-C lenses from them...

The Viltrox is almost a dream lens for me (almost because it’s still affordable). It’s the main lens I want for the Canon RF system, but for now I have to go with the Canon 24mm f/1.4 II until the lens gets adapted. I’m not necessarily jealous of Sony user’s lens options because I know the reasons why I chose Canon, but damn do I want the Viltrox lens! Sony and Fujifilm users are experiencing the best Viltrox has to offer rn!

Canon shot themselves in the foot by not releasing RF mount sooner, now they need to keep it closed for a while more but they would probably be better off starting RF mount sooner and being able to open it up sooner.

Could you try out the TTartisan 27mm 2.8 AF lens? :)

Very well put together comparison video, as always Curtis! I don't know about you but I'm so sorry that 5-6 years ago there were not as many fantastic lens aps-c available as there are now! My opinion is that the aps-c category has improved a lot! There used to be a much bigger contrast between an aps-c and a FF, but nowadays...keep it up! 🔥🔥🔥

Optically, the Viltrox is a little better by a very small margin. However, the Sigma is smaller and lighter, and for those reasons, I plan to get the Sigma.

I had the same focus problem with mine, might be the firmware
@CurtisPadleyСағат бұрын
@@juanforets Yeah that’s what I’m thinking, if it can be fixed in firmware the Viltrox would stretch out its lead over the sigma from my testing.

Sorry but: in the “new” camerasysteem era, Viltrox is the new Sigma. Viltrox new “Pro” lenses are much better or equal.

I have the 30mm 1.4 if this breaks I will get back to your video and try to decide which one I would get.

I agree, if I had to choose two lenses it's 35 and 85, if I had to choose one I'd probably give the win to the viltrox 😂

If the 23mm sigma acts as your 35mm than what does the 30mm sigma do lol.
@tjevo4g13 сағат бұрын
Because of the crop factor, the Sigma 23mm is effectively 34.5mm, whereas the Sigma 30mm is effectively 45mm (acts as a 50mm).

@ ah. I figured using an apsc camera was talking about apsc lengths. I get it now.
