Do I really need the App for configuration? Is it impossible to change the settings on the device itself? Is there any guarantee that the App will be updated in the future so it will work on future iOS versions? I read the instructions and I noticed that a new pair of electrodes need to be activated. Does this process need a internet connection? Is there any way to bypass this? If not: the splicer becomes unusable after the manufacturer shuts down the activation server.

Good morning Wynn Wang, I need to consult about this situation with the AI-7 splicer. When I make a fusion with multimode fibers in the image of the display, the fiber is seen not to make contact with each other, but the splicer shows me that the splice was made correctly and with minimum attenuation of 0.01 or 0.02dB. Mr Daniel, first of all, we are not Wynn Wang :). We are DIPOL. The best way to solve Your problem or Your doubts would be to send us a picture of splice You mention. Generally speaking first and the most important thing to do is ARC calibration before starting splicing. This need to be done to make sure that the arc has enough power and temperature to melt fibers correctly. Not doing so can result in poor splices with visible defects or shadows. Second issue is the splicing prorgram dedicated to fibers You are working with. You should choose MM program when splicing multimode fibers. I assume that You splice same MM standard fibers like OM2 to OM2. If so it is highly possible that You will see black vertical line in splice point. This is normal and does not affect the attenuation - splice is still OK. It can look like this: photos.app.goo.gl/hsk21zLdcExY29fx7 With higher magnification (this was achieved here by using x300 zoom for one axis and adjusted focus in manual mode, using the SignalFire2 application) You can see that this black line contains in fact 2 black and 1 bright line inside: photos.app.goo.gl/Q5Jo3z8dKZ3oTSfv5 This is because MM fibers have big cores, heavily doped with Germanium. These cores have high refraction index and low melting temperature compared to the silica cladding. During the fusion splice, Germanium from the core diffuses outward into the cladding, at the splice point. This diffusion raises the cladding index of refraction at the splice point. Therefore, light from both the left and right of the splice point refracts inwards towards the center of the splice. This results in a slight bright vertical line at the splice, with a faint darker line to both left & right. Regards DIPOL Team

It's a good machine. Works well, we sold a lot of them and haven't got any returns or warranty claims :)

The communication software is a major problem. The contractor using the AI 9 will not allow phone numbers to be used, so he bought a few Samsung ANDROID tablets to use for the Bluetooth communication. They (Tablets) will not accept the software, no matter what over-rides are employed -- The software is considered unsafe and will not run!

İ can not say that this splicer is very good, the show me that attenuation is 0.01 for example, but actual more than 0.5dB. We have four of this splicers, AI7 and AI9, very bad quality. Fujikura much and much better!
