I don't think he was a born psychopath or if it's a term that can be used for him as he was a product of severe child abuse. As the flashback of the past shows him with a dog, he was very fond of it and used to take care of it, but his mother told him not to. She told him to not care for things that are weak and to not feel these things and the next he found that dog killed by his mother. And after he grew up in that manner with his abusive mother, isolated from the world as she didn't let him go to school. I don't remember now if he did or didn't, but anyway, he was too emotionally damaged due to that. When he became an adult, his mother now was the weak one and he killed her in the same manner she had killed his dog. And that's how he started, till he met her and she was weak too, just like his other victims, but her kindness just moved his heart even though he didn't know how to deal with the emotions she was invoking within him as he had never felt them. It's not a love story, nor romantic, but the story of child abuse and how damaging it is, and it's a story of kindness that can change someone... The going in the past changed their story, she was saved and he was locked, and the way the last scene was shown, it felt like there was hope that this time around, things can be better, that now he knows what's wrong with him, now he has the help of other people and he can learn how to deal with his feelings when she came in his life... Thank you for this VM, it's my most fav story of Signal...

Can we just appreciate how well made these movies and series are. It is really difficult to get out of this situation if you don’t understand or know anything about who you are up against. If you are ever getting stalked or harassed or in a abusive relationship, anything about serial killers will help. Serial killers are exactly the same as abuses but higher up on the food chain if you will, once a mouse knows how to beat a lion, they can beat a pet cat.

The man is a sociopath not a psychopath. Sociopaths have a conscience, albeit a weak one, and will often justify something they know to be wrong. By contrast, psychopaths will believe that their actions are justified and feel no remorse for any harm done.

Just sharing an alternate (and likely very much overthought) opinion here hehe 😁 Granted, I don't really think the guy in the show is a psychopath but nonetheless, regarding psychopaths on a whole, I think saying he cannot love if he's a psychopath would depend on how you define "love". Is it just an 'emotion'? Then I would suppose no, he can't. But what if love is higher and deeper than that? Then I would say yes. And I posit that it is more than a feeling. Some people say love is a verb, aka something that you DO and not just feel. I believe love is (or should be, at least in part) desiring and seeking the best for the other person. Love should be the actions you take because you wish for their best outcome. Something like that. And thus a psychopath could do at least that side of "loving" There is actually a KZbinr named David Wood who is a diagnosed psychopath and he would disagree with the take that as a psychopath he cannot and doesn't "love" his wife (and sons) 🤷🏽‍♀️

@@aleciapeart Well, there are functional psychopaths in society, but they can't form true atachments and they don't care about others. One was saying that he ws at a funeral and he found it amusing that people were sad and he was secretly smiling, and he thought it was like a game, that no one cought him doing it... Other that were in "relationships" said their partners did everything for them like they were programed, they never fought, but the guy was never in love, he never cared, the girl did not feel like he wanted to be there. She broke up with him and in a few days he found someoen new did the same thing, and acted like nothning happened. So yes they could do actions but at the same time they do it like a robot, they have no atachments to what they do or people, they do it to appear normal and like a target/ an order... As partners the 2 people would not actually connect.

No that is correct. I feel like, even drama writers aren’t very educated in that topic so they create characters that is contradictory. Which is why we have some difficulty figuring if the character is psychopathic or not. In this case…he is not a true psychopath, since he feels guilt, love and fear. But he had violent tendencies since childhood, which we see from him killing the dog. Which is due to bad abuse. So definitely a deviant way of thinking has emerged in him. But he is not a psychopath. A psychopath would have an absent frontal lobe region. He can feel.

No, they cannot as they lack empathy. One is born with psychopathy. They enjoy hurting people. But if he wasnt like this when he was a child then he might not be a psychopath but a serial killer. (This is just to my knowledge, and i am a student of counselling psychology)

This KDRAMA is still one of the best detective kdrama yet one with an exasperating male lead. I mean he's a profiler but he's too slow in the uptake . Took him too long to believe what was happening. Guess there's no concept of time loop in this drama . Such dumb male lead. He's not one you will root for. If kim soo hyun starred in this it will be much better. Guess they are scrimping on budget.
