I love what Jake's done here. I've had a similar experience myself, though with a slightly different outcome. I grew up listening to rave music. When "brostep"-style dubstep blew up in the early 2010s, I was bitter that what I thought was trendy, screechy garbage was getting so much spotlight. One day, I had an epiphany that as much as I disliked dubstep, if I had to produce it myself I'd have no clue where to start. I quickly found that I was really bad at it. The sound design involved was far more technical than the genres I was used to making. That moment was a real eye-opener for me, and I've been far more willing to find the good in genres I don't immediately care for since then.

It's sad too because there is some really really good country but it seems like sometime Durring the 90s everyone agreed that we should completely ruin southern rock, country, blues and bluegrass all together. Like go and listen to some classic Waylon or Hank sir, or someone like willie. Then adventure into the less famous, listen to the bluegrass coming out in the 50s. Why did this happen? Not every genre had such a noticeable decline into pop music. It's even sadder as a southern man to see guys eat it up and love it because they think they're suppose to like this new country. They think "I'm southern and this is southern music" meanwhile nothing about the modern music has anything to do with the music from the south. The South usa with all its faults at one time was the center of the best and most emotional music. Idk I'm ranting again. I'm off my rocker.

Bilb Ono It happened when Garth Brooks hit. Brooks, who was into Kiss, Boston, Journey and the AOR sound brought the arena rock vibe to country music. With the rise in grunge and rap, and the decline of good old fashioned rock and roll, all the wannabe rocker L.A. studio musicians moved to Nashville because that's where the money and girls went. So much modern country sounds like terrible 80s rock with a fiddle and a banjo because of sellout rockers and dumb girls.

The problem is I actually want to listen to this. This is a good song. It's got some catchy melodies, some hilarious vocals and is actually pretty varied. Bro country is not at all like this. It's the same canned melodies everyone else uses with some boring ass instrumentation and a dude southern rapping over what's really a hip hop beat, but worse than hip hop in every way. I like how you set out to make the most boring song ever and yet just couldn't do it. That's brilliant man.

Totally agree, this song is so enjoyable, tongue-in-cheek! Lyrics intentionally funny. Cool banjo. I'd slip this into some bro country lover's playlist to see their face when the part comes about dog called Smoke leaving a little present on bed! ;D

@TapaniVaahervaara5 жыл бұрын
Lacks feel and musicality... So? So what? This was obviously an experiment. Experimenting is not about feel or musicality. It's just about trying to expand your borders or trying to figure out something new. At some point you just figure out "the thing of the genre" and start making new music with feel and musicality. I'm from Finland, and it seems that I know country music better than this guy from US knows. But he knows country music well enough to write a song in that style. I loved this video absolutely! I'm an all-around musician (like this one seems to be). I can play end even write music in almost any genre (studied all the classical theories also...), but I'm not writing brilliant r'n'b (or classical or...) for example. Technically I could, but... It lacks feel and musicality. I don't care! It's just experimenting with something that I don't really know, but trying to understand some new language. And trying to add something new to my vocabulary.

whoa whoa whoa- if there’s one thing we can all learn from the great Luke Bryan, it’s that you can’t use all your cliches at once on this hit or you’ll be out of material for next month’s hit. There’s been a resurgence of authentic country that tells real stories. James and the Shame’s album Human Overboard, Jason Isbell’s album Southeastern, and Dustin Christensen’s album Sad Songs are all great examples of modern country music that is packed with songs from real complex personal experiences rather than a bunch of drinking party songs about trucks. A personal favorite is Where We’re Going from James and the Shame.

People might say it's just nostalgia but no, today's music sucks. Quantifiably. This is nothing more than lazily crafted pop music aimed at people who listen to country. It's overly simplistic, derivative and repetitive. And it only succeeds by taking psychological advantage of its target audience. It's kind of like when a bad comedian can only get applause by saying, "Hellooooooo [name of city I'm performing in]! Anyone here from [name of city I'm performing in]?"
