@EclecticEssentric4 жыл бұрын
Learn the modes, it is easy, but here's a hack; Add b2 (note right after the tonic) for Phrygian sound to penta. The b6 of phrygian is mundane enough to pass on. Add sharp 6 (as Jake did) for Dorian sound. The perfect/sharp 2 is mundane. Add sharp 7 for Harmonic sound. Add sharp 6 and sharp 7 for Melodic sound. The modes themselves, being 7 note scales (heptatonic), only add these 2 (any example above, incluuding the non-modes Harm/Mel) notes to penta to create the mode. Easy way to grok mode shapes: Take c key, learn each 7 note mode to memorize the shape of the mode. C Ionian (major 3rd) CDEFGAB, D Dorian (minor 3rd) DEFGABC, E Phrygian (minor) EFGABCD, F Lydian (major) FGABCDE, G Mixolydian (major) GABCDEF, A Aeolian (minor) ABCDEFG, B Locrian (minor diminished 5th) BCDEFGA.

It really helped me to learn what notes give each mode it's flavor. It has to do with what 7thchord and 1 note. Here's the major modes from brightest to darkest using the circle of 5ths. Changing 1 note at a time. Lyd 123#4567 maj7 #11 (#4) Ion 1234567 maj7 11 (4) Mix 123456b7 dom7 (4) Dor 12b3456b7 min7 13 (6) Aeol 12b345b6b7 min7 b13 (b6) Phry 1b2b345b6b7 min7 b9 (b2) Loc 1b2b34b5b6b7 min7b5 (b5) Notice how you can change through the modes chromatically Changing one note Lyd #4 Ion 4 Mix b7 Dor b3 Aeol b6 Phry b2 Loc b5 Modal notes Lyd 7 #4 Ion 7 4 Mix b7 4 Dor b3 6 Aeol b3 b6 Phry b3 b2 Loc b3 b5 I'm just showing some modes take more than 1 note to define the flavor. Simplest way with 3 note chords Lyd Maj #4 13#45 Ion Maj 4 1345 Mix (Dominant) Maj b7 135b7 Dor min 6 1b356 Aeol min b6 1b35b6 Phry min b2 1b235 Loc diminished 1 b3 b5 Note that diminished is 1 b3 b5 If it has a b7 it's half diminished and or min7b5 which is the same note but different functions how they resolve. If it had a bb7 it is a Dim7 and or full diminished. The names are confusing. I hope this helps.

It's the same notes of E Penta Minor- E G A B D. I'm just playing them lower on the fretboard. If you learn all five pentatonic shapes, you can easily connect them all over the guitar without actually playing any different notes- you're just playing them way lower or higher than where you started.
