270 only has 3 sf when the "0" is followed by a decimal. 270 is 2 sf while 270. is 3 sf. With values that have a trailing zero or more than one trailing zero, it is best to express the value in scientific notation so the trailing zero is clearly defined as significant or not. 2.70x10^2 would be 3 sf, while 2.7x10^2 would be 2 sf.
