Significant Figures: Multiplication and Division!

Once you can assign sig figs, you must learn how to harness their raw power through the magic of sig fig math! The rule for multiplication and division is actually easier than the rule for addition and subtraction, for multiplication and division all you have to do is make sure your answer has the same number of significant digits that the number with the least amount of significant digits has.

12*3 will be 36 only cause according to my school book 3 is exact number so it has infinity sig figs , so least number of sig fig will be 2 here . Love from India ❤

because those are the rules of sig figs! those 30 were not accurate, we only knew up to 4 digits.

would you actually round the "exact" numbers? (in the 12x3 example) Exact numbers can be considered to have an infinite number of significant figures. Thus, number ofapparent significant figures in any exact number can be ignored as a limiting factor in determining the number of significant figures in the result of a calculation.

I think my teacher doesn't know how to do sig figs. She told us to change the equation so the numbers would have the same amount of sig figs. She even did this weird thing where she would take off zeros and completely change the value of the number. I just hope she accepts the answers that are correct.
