We definitely relate to this experience. What's crazy is in trying to follow all the rules you end up viewing them sometimes burdens. But when your relationship is founded on love of Christ doing the things he asks feels like a joy and privilege.

Again just to be clear we are commanded to be perfect (Matthew 5:48) and that's one of the things Christ the black Messiah was demonstrating, that you can be perfect. Especially if you have faith in him because scripture says you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13) which one would be keeping God's laws statutes and Commandments as was commanded

I've just started attending a new church for a few months now and went to a few Bible studies conducted at the church. How did you get delivered from this currently going through this especially with intrusive thoughts and guilt
@OmoladeOkaiyeto
@OmoladeOkaiyeto 3 жыл бұрын
I had to realised that it was a process and that it was not going to stop overnight. The more I studied the bible for myself and looked at how Jesus did things then this started to shift my mindset. I also read this book called Twisted Scriptures: Breaking Free from Churches That Abuse by Mary Alice Chrnalogar. It’s a very deep book and helps you to understand things a bit more. In terms of guilt I always keep reminding myself that I did not know any better and that it was not my fault. Each morning and still do will ask God for the renewal of mind. I also experienced intrusive thoughts so I can definitely relate. These two scriptures really helped me 2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Philippians 4:8 Brothers and sisters, continue to think about what is good and worthy of praise. Think about what is true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. I also took the decision to go through therapy as well which really helped. Thousands of thought run through our minds everyday and they are just thoughts it does not mean they are true. We should not hold onto the thought but just let it pass by. Really hope this helps and keeping you in prayer.

In 2 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭(ESV‬‬), Peter makes a statement regarding people who twist Paul’s words to their own destruction: 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. So, my question is, what does it actually mean to have “freedom in Christ”??? I know that we’re free from the bondage of sin, but, if we’re not to be legalistic and we are to live by grace, what does that look like??? I ask the question because it’s my belief that there should be a certain lifestyle/culture that comes with being a follower of Christ. Not to say we’re bound to the law, but rather living in the fulfillment of the law through Christ. I’ve always pondered this delicate balance of Christians not being legalistic but also not abusing grace. Would love to hear your thoughts!
@OmoladeOkaiyeto
@OmoladeOkaiyeto Жыл бұрын
Yhh I completely understand and I think if the focus is to live through the fulfilment of the law through Christ they will be not really be focusing on abusing the Grace that God has given us. When it comes to the legalistic side is to not act like the Pharisees and in terms of the balance is allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and keep us accountable.
@ALTheFreeMan

@@OmoladeOkaiyeto True, and thanks for the reply. But, I think it’s a slippery slope when talking about Christians not abusing grace. From my observation, many “Christians” today lack the knowledge, discipline, and RELATIONSHIP to “live in freedom” while also living set apart.

You are confusing how we obtain eternal life with how we should walk in this life. Since we are saved by faith, then we should walk in obediance. “And I know My Father's commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.” John 12:50 NLT “If you love me, you will keep my commandments". John 14:15 NABRE "Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!” Matthew 12:48‭, ‬50 NLT "But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ Matthew 7:23 NLT “For you ignore God’s law and substitute your own tradition.” Mark 7:8 NLT "For the hearers of the law are not righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be declared righteous." Romans 8:13 “For the mind-set on the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God’s law, for it is unable to do so.” Romans 8:7 HCSB "This is how we can be sure that we know God: If we obey God's commands, we know that we belong to him. Someone may say, ‘I belong to God.’ But if he does not obey God's commands, that person is telling a lie. He is not living in the way that God's true message teaches us. 1 John 2:3‭-‬7 EASY "In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him" Hebrews 5:9 NLT "For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight. Romans 2:13 NLT ....... The important thing is to keep God’s commandments. 1 Corinthians 7:19 NLT “Blessed are those who do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14 WMBB “This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus. Rev 14:12 NTL "What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith but has no actions to prove it? Is such “faith” able to save him?..... Thus, faith by itself, unaccompanied by actions, is dead. But, foolish fellow, do you want to be shown that such “faith” apart from actions is barren?...... You see that his (Abraham's) faith worked with his actions; by the actions the faith was made complete; You see that a person is declared righteous because of actions and not because of faith alone. Indeed, just as the body without a spirit is dead, so too faith without actions is dead. James 2:14‭, ‬17‭, ‬20‭, ‬22‭, ‬24‭, ‬26 CJB “And I know My Father's commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.” John 12:50 NLT "Yeshua said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ The whole Torah and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37‭-‬40 WMBBE

What ever *works you conduct, if done out of duty & not relationship w Jesus, then it is legalistic, works based, & moralistic thinking. How do you approach other peoples sin? With Grace or Judgement? Do you ostracise or envelope? Do you gossip within the body of Christ, about the body of Christ? If so, you are making a very serious mistake. Consider for a second how Christ will feel when he sees his beloved, who he died for, being torn down his beloved for their own gain. You are, ulimately leading people away from the chuech community & creating heart/soul/spiritual damage that is often never fully recovered from. I don't think Christianity members understand that there are rules and regulations aka laws you are required to do. Christ says so, apostles say so, prophets, etc for example Matthew 4:4 [4]But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. You are to do everything that God has spoken which includes the old testament because... God spoke it. Keeping God's laws statutes and Commandments is how you receive the kingdom thus saith the Messiah himself Matthew 19:16-17 [16]And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? [17]And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. We are required to be perfect thus saith the Messiah himself Matthew 5:48 [48] *Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.* When a brother or sister does sin (which it happens) you are to judge them aka rebuke, criticize, scold, chew out, chastise, Etc... That is showing love to your people Leviticus 19:17-18 [17]Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: *thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.* [18]Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, *but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.* That is loving your people as yourself when you don't hold grudges or get revenge, but instead rebuke them if they are in sin and don't allow them to do so. There's so much that was said and I can't touch on it all.... Christ the black Messiah (revelation 1:14-15) is the sacrifice that gives you forgiveness but that doesn't mean you don't have to keep God's laws.

Thank you for sharing your views point on this as it’s good to share other perspectives and have open discussions whether we agree or disgaree. In terms of the Old Testament we are not required to obey 613 laws that is impossible. Christ came to fulfilled the law. Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. The Old Testament is definitely there for a reason and there are great teachings and learnings from it. And how we treat those who sin we need to also remember that our God is Merciful and graceful and we should also treat them in love. Highlighting it is not an issue but all done in love. There are laws we need to obey which is highlighted clearly in the New Testament. Like you mentioned there is a lots to address and all cannot be said here.
@studentofthesaviors.o.s
@studentofthesaviors.o.s 2 жыл бұрын
@@OmoladeOkaiyeto so Christians usually use Matthew 5:17 to say that the Old testament laws are done away with but that's not what the scripture is saying just to be clear. Christ specifically tells you *what* inside the laws and *what* inside the prophets are fulfilled Luke 24:44 [44]And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, *CONCERNING ME.* Acts 3:18 [18]But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, *that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.* So the things that were fulfilled inside the law and inside the prophets were the things concerning Christ and his suffering. For example you have Isaiah 53 the suffering servant, you have Psalms 22, you have Deuteronomy 18:18, Etc. But not everything inside the law and prophets have been fulfilled. For example Isaiah 63 or Numbers 24:17-19, Christ's return. Which means that one jot and one tittle has not passed from the law itself since every prophecy of Christ has not came to pass. Matthew 5:17-19 [17]Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. [18] *For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till ALL be fulfilled.* [19] *Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:* but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. So you still have to keep the entire law of God, to your best ability having a clear conscience.
