The short antenna on your FM transmitter will limit the range, try a higher frequency like 105 or 107 FM which will suit a shorter antenna.

Update 2022. I got ahold of one of these to test only. I compared it to the C.Crane FM2R Transmitter. The range was better, good enough to cover a entire Church Parking Lot. At 100 millowatts, you Churches are fine to use this, but make sure you're not bothering a licensed broadcaster. Stay off of 88.7 and 87.9 Mhz, as it is not legal for any Part 15 FM Transmitter to be using, like 1710 is not legal for Part 15 AM Broadcasting. In a bigger, metropolitan city, this might not work for you because the FM Band is so crowded with Full Powered Stations, FM Translators and LPFM Stations that are Licensed. Another important piece of advice, when your Church Service is over, make sure to turn the transmitter OFF. Do not leave it on all week with a dead carrier. It is illegal for even licensed radio stations to be sitting there for hours with a dead carrier, and just because this is a small 100 millowatt signal that can't make it far out of the parking lot doesn't exclude any Churches, in otherwords, "Be Responsible".

These things have a whole lot of uses. And I was thinking about that because I've owned one of these little devices for about three or four years. And I've known people to have them since maybe like 2005. So I'm glad that these things are here because they have just so many functions you can use them for.

Great test! I love the fact you've included the map of where you driving and where you started to lose signal. We've been doing the drive in thing for a few weeks, but haven't done a "range" test, although we do know that one of our members who lives a little under a mile away can still get the signal. It's amazing how sometimes the simple solution can work so well. We're just starting to plan to move back inside, but we'd like to keep the FM transmitter channel going, since there is still a segment of our people who *still* aren't hip to live-streaming (and have no interest in coming back in the building anytime soon, now that we are allowed to that) but they *will* come to the parking lot and listen from there. It's great to know what options/configuration we have to work with.

Why not try using a Audio Processor ahead of the FM Transmitter. Depending on what you can spend on a Audio Processor, the main thing to do is bring up is in the fringe part of the signal, the audio can be louder and more dominant circumference of the signal. That is what you want. I couldn't tell by the map how far the signal was going from the Church but since these are legal, I thought about buying one, but I want to test it first. I'm Retired and Disabled. I would like to test one first before a final purchase.

Ignoring the legality - you generally need to buy a more powerful transmitter/look for an amplifier. But there are some practical ways you could extend the range. * Place it on a higher point where the signal could travel unconstructed (by trees, houses, hills etc) to the listeners houses. * Put a aluminum coca cola can to direct the signal in a specific direction

Hello. Thank you for your review. We have a similar transmitter, might be a different brand. We use it for 'drive in' mass in our parking lot. We also have a channel splitter, so the Celebrant and the Deacon can each use wireless mics. We're having some static/interference issues. Based on your review, I think we can rule out the transmitter needing line of site, maybe the splitter does. Do you have any experience with using a splitter along with this type of transmitter? I know you hooked up yours inside the church. Any suggestions are welcome!
@johnsiders7819
@johnsiders7819 2 жыл бұрын
Splitter I take it’s a mixer ? Keep that and the transmitter away from each other low level can pick up all kinds of unwanted stuff and make sure you are not overdriving the audio that will cause distortion too if you have just that wireless mic system connected to the transmitter with out a mixer I do suggest buying a low dollar mixing board that way you can see if too much high level audio is going out.

Avoid using your wireless devices near common sources of interference, such as power cables, microwave ovens, fluorescent lights, wireless video cameras, and cordless phones etc. Maybe this is why everything went crazy. Not sure but this can be the reason sometimes.

What can I do if we are setting up for both in the car and some folks in chairs? Is it possible to send the signal out to the transmitted and a pair of speakers for the folks in chairs?
@mediachristiantv7472
@mediachristiantv7472 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. The answer depends on the type of soundboard you use, and how sound gets out of it. If you have a basic “Passport” system with a main out and a monitor out, you hook up the main outs to your speakers (1/4 male to 1/4 male, speaker jacks are 1/4 female) and the monitor out to your FM transmitter. On my church’s portable board the monitor out is stereo RCA, so we would use stereo RCA male to 1/8 stereo male (into the FM transmitter female jack. If you’re livestreaming and you want to send clean audio to your camera or phone, you can use an iRig...but you’re going to need another out from your board to get to the FM transmitter. In that case I’d suggest a headphone distribution amp. Your main out (or your monitor out) is the input for the DA...your output options expand based on the number of outputs from your DA...2, 4, 8, whatever. Every DA I’ve seen has at least a 1/4 stereo input. The larger, rack mountable ones also have XLR inputs. Again it depends on the type of board that you have. Bottom line - whatever sends out sound, that’s what’s going into the FM transmitter.

@mediachristiantv7472
@mediachristiantv7472 3 жыл бұрын
Anything with an “audio out” can be hooked into the FM transmitter...as long as you have the right cable for it. Depends on the type of soundboard you have and what goes out...just the main out to speakers, or do you have aux sends? No matter where your starting point is, you need to end in a 1/8 stereo male going into the transmitter.

@bluetech7753 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there one thing to mention when you're buying these transmitters some of them will say that they are in compliance with part 15 Ali FCC rules for unlicensed Broadcasting however you still need to be careful because some of these transmitters as I saw your video might exceed the radius of what is allowed which is 125 ft in which that pretty much covers the inside of a church one thing to note is that sometimes the signal made drift a little further than what it's supposed to especially if the conditions are just right. I'm considering on getting one of these transmitters for myself what I'd like to do is I want to set up an in-house broadcast here at my home so I can have music playing off of my computer and be able to just turn on any other radio in the house and listen to the music as supposed to wiring up my house for whole house audio which can be pretty expensive bluetooth speakers are great however it will only receive Bluetooth signals from a device that is synced up to it which in most cases you can only broadcast to one speaker. Thanks for the review.

Wrong, try again. These cheaply made products are made in China and they have absolutely no qualms with flat out lying and “certifying” anything and everything because there is practically no way any of them will ever be held responsible. Part 15 rules allow a maximum of 250uV measured at 3 meters from the transmitter. This can easily be achieved even with 100’ coax and a half watt transmitter. The transmitter in this video does 5 watts I believe, which means he IS interfering with licensed broadcasters. Remember, Jesus loves you even if sending the FCC to your church is his will. Amen.

I am currently using my computer to play music and I was able to connect the transmitter and computer to play music. Music can be heard on the radio. The only problem I am having is connecting a microphone to the mixer so when I speak, I can hear myself on the radio. I have three Pyler dynamic wired microphones with the XLR hooked up to the microphone itself and a 1/4 inch jack on the other end. According to the picture of the mixer, the thin two way RCA to 1/8 inch cable is connected from one of the outputs jacks next to the mic inputs to the headphone jack on my computer. The fatter two way cable next to it is connected to the audio jack on the FM transmitter. If I use XLR to XLR cables for the mic input, what cables I need for the output so I can hear myself on the radio (I always have a radio nearby to test the connection)? Any assistance will be appreciated.

Not all car radios will go below 88.1 . Fm. LP fm is 500milliwatts with matching antenna. LP fm is 700 mw and above. Use a better antenna but keep power low. The statement "check the FCC rules" leaves me cold. As an FCC licensed radio operator I find it hard to find a legal operation. See my other post. The FCC in the past at times has let thikngs go and then swooped down and picked off some examples.

I am a Former FCC Licensee of a 1,000 Watt AM Station. The former Administrations of George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, put the Commission in a mess. COVID has hurt Federal Agencies like the FCC financially. Now Joe Biden Administration will take the FCC in debt further, as the Washington D.C staff are still working from home, what's left of them, and field enforcement is at a minimum. Go do the math.

As long as you are within part 15. Which I believe is up to 100 milliwatts of output and have a antenna as shown here (right at the output of the transmitter) you should be fine. Seems like the range is within the bounds of the church, so I don’t expect much pushback from the locals. Even on 87mhz, it’s pretty sparse down there, and not competing with the big name license holders.

@@scottbailey1560 just look at the mess of the Digital TV channel repack. The FCC these days are more real estate agents for the radio spectrum, than enforcement agents. Selling off bands to the cell phone companies.

Probably not. I really need to take this video down as it was needed during the beginning of Covid but as many have noted some versions push the limits in range and power which can be illegal in the US and in some countries

This was posted to another site - but i want churches to be aware of the risks involved in this. The FCC part 15 does not apply to intended radiators, TRANSMITTER.. I purchased one of the transmitters you are showing about two months ago and have not powered it up pending a review by the FCC. I am a licensed Radio Operator Extra Class K3HQI. I doubt that the FCC will be taking enforcement activity but I am very familiar with FCC part 15 and there are two things not mentioned in this - most people are not aware that part 15 actually exists let alone its content. If I did operate the transmitter, i would cease and desist immediately if a complaint was recieved from ANYONE including a neighbor. No matter what, the rule for FCC part 15 is upon a complaint you IMMEDIATELY CEASE AND DESIST OPERATION OF THE DEVICE. Depending on the severity of the interference, the FCC, if they get involved, might take action from simply a nasty letter - usual if you promptly stop the action - and it may go to a fine, usually a minimum of $1,500 but can be much larger. I have seen %25,000. If you read Part 15 (it is available) in only one place does it mention intentional radiators, the term for a transmitter. Part 15 was intended to cover non-intentional radiators. That imeans every TV, Radio receiver, computer, coffee pot, microwave, any electronic device. They all radiate signals UNINTENTIONALLY, this is the rules for them, the reason for part 15. If my whatever device interferes with your licensed service, I must shut it down. It must comply with some standards. There is an eye of the needle that can be threaded by a camel but it applies to educational sites only, a church does not fit. Yes, you may have a k-12 school but if the transmitter is used for the service that will not pass muster. There are some licensed transmitters out there but they are 0.1 watt and have one 3 foot antenna that must not be modified. I have one, its antenna was "modified" because the tore. I think i could pass muster on it because I measured a like piece or wire, opened it and replaced it. They were designed to play a tape deck or MP3 through an FM radio very nearby. I looked at this for the church and discarded the idea. Its range is pitiful. Unfortunately the transmitter you (and I) have is 1 watt or 7 watts, well above the legal.limit and the antenna is not legal. In addition, and this is one of the most interesting items, they warn not to use without the antenna connected. GOOD ADVICE. A perfect antenna will show what is called an SWR oir 1:1. This would mean that all of the transmitter power is radiated. Any power that is not radiated is reflected back to the transmitter, is converted to heat and can burn out a critical item. A good antenna will show someting in the 1:1.1 to 1:1.8 range. Above 1:2 the transmitter starts to get at risk. I find it hard to believe the antenna connected directly to the transmitter will have a "ground plane", also called counterpoise, that will give this situaition. WIthout a counterpoise a one quarter wavve vertical (this antenna) has a very bad SWR - quarter wave for 93.5 MHz is about 31.5 inches I have a mag mount like the one you are using away from the transmitter and if it is not on a metal object (a car roof for example) it does not have the proper ground plane. I have in an emergency used a metal filing cabinet or a folder megal folding chair seat with it laying on the backs of two erect chairs. I would not operate any transmitter without the ground plane. If you have an amateur radio operator in your churches or a radio club in your area, they will likely have either an antenna analyzer, a nano VNA or an SWR meter that they can use to tell you if it is good. If you do not know how to contact one, i need only your approximate location (nearest town) and I can give you help to find one. These guys like to play with their toys! As I said, i am getting an FCC ruling. I want to use this as the weather gets better. The advertisments for this equipment ignore the negative parts of the law. What I am looking for from the FCC spectrum enforcement group is, will they allow it if there is no interference. There was a previous situation, not quite like this, that the FCC issued a wavier for - I am hoping they do in this case or tell us, as long as you do not interfere, OK..

The Enforcement Group? It's the head Commissioners to make the final decisions at the top. Those five Commissioners don't understand what you and I know. I know there have been people filing rule makings, but they haven't gone nowhere. You have big Corporations like iHeart, Cumulus, Beasley, Entercom, and smaller groups that will file against it, the NAB may fight it too. Trust me, I know you're a Ham, but I was a licensee to a 1 KW, AM Daytimer for 28 years. I know the some of the Hams in my area, my Consultant Engineer is a Ham. I should have gotten off my tail and got my Ham Ticket along time ago.

You're doing your audience a disservice by not warning them about how this device is NOT FCC COMPLIANT. According to the product page, this device has a half-watt (0.5 watt) output which will produce a field strength in excess of what is allowed under Part 15.239. In addition, besides not being FCC Part 15 certified it's also noted that operation on 87.9 MHz is not allowed with a compliant Part 15 FM transmitter. We've assisted businesses, hobbyists and educational institutions using legal, license-free FCC compliant Part 15 AM and FM transmitters. With the P.I.R.A.T.E. Act of 2020 using a transmitter like this can open both the property owner and the operator to a fine upwards of $2million dollars!

@@AJaytheCEO That doesn't excuse not complying with FCC regulations. People will run across your video and think it's totally fine to use a non-compliant device, perhaps finding out the error of their ways when they end up on the wrong end of an FCC violation and potentially being liable for a very steep fine. You may have been asked to review the device but you glossed over the FCC regs, playing them off as not important. Tell that to the individuals or entities that get caught and fined. Tell that to the Eastside Free Methodist Church of Portland, Oregon or New Fellowship Baptist Church; Dorchester (Boston), Massachusetts or Omega Church International Ministries in Palm Beach, among others, who heard from the FCC due to non-compliant operation.
