What a beast Rascher was. The overtones were just legendary

I had been wanting to see something like this for quite some time. Watching him play that keyless saxophone like that absolutely made my day, too.

It is quite amazing to see the great man in action. My students are amazed!! (So am I). I have an old vinyl of him playing and I think I might see if I can transfer it to mp3 and make a slideshow backing and post it.

"Mr Rascher, this light is in my eyes do you mind if I turn it off?" Hahaha such a random thing to have in a script.

In this video he is playing a Buescher 400 (in the clinic footage). He did this only as a favor to the Buescher company who wanted to promote their latest line of saxophones. I am sure he is playing his normal saxophone during the Whitney performance.

I aspire to that level of overtone control. I'm getting there but I definitely need to work a lot more on the 16th and 17th.

How the times have changed...Karen didn't have technology or other distractions to waste her time on, instead she had her saxophone and it's clear she gave her time to it and practiced her overtones just as Mr Rascher advised. Kids have too many options and less discipline these days to devote themselves to practising an instrument like they did in the 50's.
