SIH 2024 | PS ID 1655 | HEXABOTS | Detecting oil spills at marine environment

Oil spills at sea have devastating impacts on the environment, economy, and public health, necessitating rapid detection and response. Our proposed solution integrates Automatic Identification System (AIS) data with satellite imagery to address this challenge. By monitoring AIS for vessel anomalies and analyzing satellite images with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), we can detect oil spills early and accurately. The system sends real-time alerts to authorities, aids in ship rerouting to avoid affected areas, and provides a scalable web-based platform for tracking. This approach enhances timely intervention and minimizes the ecological and economic damage caused by oil spills.
