In the contemporary era Shikhs r very hospitable.They feed people whereover they live irrespective of caste creed or religion. I never saw a beggar among Sikhs.They r very content. No one hates them .They r tolerated everywhere . In Kargil Ladakh there r only 3 to four families .The wall of the Gurudawara is shared by a mosque which is a unique example of religious harmony.

Just want to correct 2 things: 1. Guru Arjan Dev ji was made to sit on a burning hot sheet while boiling hot sand was poured over his body. He died during that torture. 2. Guru Granth Sahib is containing bani of 6 gurus, 15 bhagat, 11 bhatt & 4 sikhs(total 36)

As a Sikh, I would say the main reason for starting new religion was- Guru Nanak who was born into a Hindu family, rejected the religion and didn't wear cotton thread (Janau) and also spoke against idol worship or considering any devi-devta a god. Not only this Guru Sahib denounced the practice of Sati, untouchability, and Cast system which is the core concept of Sanatan as per religious text (Manu Samriti & Upanishads). He gave a message to worship only that which is not in any form and doesn't take birth or die. On the other side, Guru Sahib also denied the fact that the person who will consider Mohammad a messenger will go to heaven and said a person who believes in Akal Purakh will attain heaven/moksha.

Sir u tried well. But there are some mistakes. Guru Arjan Dev ji was martyred in chandni chowk . Guru Teg bahadur ji sacrificed himself for helping Kashmiri saints who were forced by Aurangzeb to transfor into muslim. And Guru Gobind Singh ji fought 14 wars .and sacrificed his whole family for the humankind..

With the advent of Islam, demography of India started changing fast. Muslim rulers started converting Hindus to Islam by preaching and with sword too. Guru Nanak Dev ji was Hindu, so to stop the expansion of Islam, Guru Nanak Dev ji started preaching Hinduism peacefully. Hinduism had been corrupted by the priest class. On one side Islam was expanding exponentially and on the other hand the priest class was exploiting the Hindus for their own luxurious life style. Guru Nanak Dev ji only preached Hinduism but opposed the priest class exploitation. Same work was done by Guru Gobind Singh ji with sword. If you read Guru Granth Sahib, it is basically pure form of Hindu philosophy in Punjabi. You find lot of poetry in the praise of Hindu Avatars. Even most of the words in Guru Granth Sahib are Sanskrit or localized Sanskrit words. The very starting of Guru Granth Sahib "Ek Onkar" are sanskrit Ek (one) Onkar (God) .
