I've been watching your videos for the last few weeks, and I have to say you have changed the way I see silat. Awesome awesome job, keep it up!!

That's because Kali and Silat both use a lot of similar moves Silat and Kali both utilise the most simplest of all weapons the humble stick and then both eventually branch into knife fighting Kali will usually use a knife in the standard grip where as Silat will mainly use the reverse grip both arts are just as deadly as each other honestly I wouldn't want to go up against a Silat OR a Kali Warrior

Ray Ward thank you for the feedback. The reason for the prolonged movement is that because this a seminar attended by experienced and skilled instructors. They know how to finish a fight. The aim of the seminar is to give options and follow ups beyond what is obvious by using baits, breaking structure and correct body mechanics found in silat. As clearly mentioned in the video “because its a seminar, we prolong the fight” for the sake of learning.

MyLoft You're very dearly wrong. Dark humor is all well and good, when it is appropriate. In a public forum like this, where respect for the martial art is expected, it is most definitely not appropriate. Like I said, you have no filter; you can't distinguish the line between acceptable public discourse and revolting drivel, and that makes you an idiot. Shut your fucking mouth and have some respect for Silat, or get out of here and don't bother those of us that do.
@myloft56339 жыл бұрын
Lepidolite Mica Where did I not respect the art? Did I insult the art or the person? It was the contrary about "bad ass dark joke". Now you can spit your shit all you want it doesn't change one thing: you're not a silat practictionner you're just a wannabe like you find on the internet. Go cry in your mommy's skirt if you can't deal with the harshness of life. Silat is a MARTIAL art = war. If cutting tendons, slicing muscles makes you feint: you shouldn't even look at that art kiddo. Silat isn't about kissing and hugging your opponent. It's about attacking him before he can launch his attack, render him unable to defend and then execute him. If you think otherwise you're just an uneducated kid who shouldn't even be talking. Morons like you think martial arts is about enlightenement or some kind of pure spirtiual purpose. Wake up: martial art = art of war. War is about killing when it's necessary. It doesn't mean going all out but defending. And guess what kid? In silat it means exactly what I described. Now you can spit your complaints somewhere else. Go ask your parents to put back filtering on your browsing if it made you cry.

As someone once said to me, there is nothing new in martial arts. At the end of the day most of the people you will fight will have two arms, two legs, a body in the middle and a head on the top, there are only so many things you can do with it so there are about to be moves similar over different arts.

Maul565 Hi I noticed that some kerambits have a more significant curve than others. From what I observed, kerambits with a more pronounced curve are used more by silat practitioners, and kerambits with a straighter "hawksbill" style blade are more in favour with FMA practioners. Am I making a sweeping generalization here?
@MrSolitude149 жыл бұрын
Samuel Lim Karambit has 3 kind of form, One with more stright blade, one with `L` blade, the point of the blade point forward, and one that has an arc curve or the standard karambit. all of these 3 are used by Silat practicioners.
@trumpet6509 жыл бұрын
+Samuel Lim Hmmm... Maybe... My take on that would be kinda yes and no... Movement of a knife with a more or less in-line point is basically identical to the movement of a stick, which is what Filipino martial artists tend to have the most experience with - so that undoubtedly plays some role in the selection process. But the Filipino martial arts are highly individualized, so the selection of a blade is more a matter of personal taste and availability. Filipino stylists are taught to adapt to the characteristics of whatever potential weapon happens to be at hand, so I think the real driving force behind that phenomenon might be that it’s tough to find a properly made, high-quality karambit. The Pentjak Silat guys seem to have a better infrastructure for getting traditional blades out of Indonesia, than their Filipino counterparts do. Too, the karambit seems to be more common in Indonesia than the Philippines (its country of origin is commonly believed to be Sumatra, and it's still common in places like Java, as an agricultural tool). There are zillions of western-made "karambits" on the market , but most of those manufacturers seem to cater to western tastes; which basically means that they turn a karambit into a folding knife with a standard “hawkbill” blade and add a ring on the pommel - losing the unusual, radical angle of the traditional blade, and the double edge; as well as providing a lock that is fine for utility purposes, but is typically not engineered to withstand the rigors of combat - a lock can break or jar loose, and if it does, that very sharp blade can close on tender, unprotected fingers like a bear trap. All of that is unfortunate, because it eliminates about 50% of the karambit's technical vocabulary, and pretty much ruins it as a personal defense weapon, IMHO. They're still fine for solo training, though, so a lot of Filipino stylists make do with them. Too, a karambit is a surprisingly excellent utility knife. The radically angled blade will out-cut the finest serrated hawkbill in mediums like tough, slick nylon weedeater line and fishing net; and the ring helps keep your fingers away from the edge, helps secure the knife against being dropped - say, down a mountainside, into an ocean or a river or heavy brush, etc.; and it also allows you to use your fingers without having to put the knife down - all of which are superior utility features.
