My architect sister, Manang Dudette, wept while she watched the bandstand being demolished. The workers, she said, were having a hard time destroying the beautiful marble structure because it was so solidly built. She's the one in the first group picture, standing third from the right, the group that fought the road widening. This horrifying destruction was done in the name of "Imeldism", and in its place was this ugly concrete "singing" fountain that conked out in just a couple of years. This cultural crime should never be forgotten. I don't know who the perpetrators were, nor who the Silaynon enablers/collaborators were; they are probably dead by now. They are forgotten, but the Silaynons' memories of that sublime plaza will never be.

To all the owners of these old houses, thank you for preserving your homes(definitely not just a house), for generations to see and enjoy the sight of these part of history. Hoping that the government would give more financial support in preserving these great part of Philippine houses. I also wish that the government could come up with some kind of regulations in demolishing old historical houses. God bless you all!

How I wish I was born a Silaynon for that is the place that I long to be. I like people who value the elegance of the houses of Spanish era that they want to preserve them no matter what! They know that once said houses are left to rot it's not easy to restore them since the lumber that were used on those houses were the finest species ever and almost not available nowadays. I pitied some of the Spanish houses in Taft, Eastern Samar that succumbed to the call of modern day living that those were replaced with houses of modern day architecture. I can't blame the owners though for they know what's good for them and I'm not against modern structure either for they are attuned to today's way of life. What I want is to preserve the antique houses for those were the reminders of the glory of our ancestors who had given their best to acquire such!

Beautiful video. At least it is in English and they spoke very educated English. The closest to Silay culture is the Jaro culture in Iloilo. The architecture is very European not the ordinary bahay na bato that people see in Vigan and Taal.

The roots of the families of Silay are from Jaro; where they too have houses.

The house was built way before 1920, Spanish era, that's what he meant. But in 1920 they decided to open it up for business. 😊

The house was built in the Spanish period but their bakery was established in the 1920s, I think it was clearly stated. Be more attentive please. ✌😊
