you went weeks without running it?? You're complaining about allergies, but not running the filter? Even if the weather isn't bad, you need to run it. It's not just a cooling or heating machine. It's also an air filtration unit. You use it to FILTER the air. I can't imagine not running it for weeks. Your air must be awful.

Yeah, that's a good point. Most systems have a setting to set a minimum run time for the filter for just this reason. However, there are other ways to keep fresh air in the home besides running your HVAC. And allergies for most people are seasonal so it might only apply during those few months.
