Tbf the Abstract Daddy boss fight hammers home the feeling of being trapped in your own home. So Angela not only being abused sexually but also not being safe in your own home is an improvement and makes her story a whole lot more sad.

I played through it once when it came but the gameplay is a slog so I never played it again. It wasnt until I got on the internet and saw people discussing the deeper meanings did I realize how truly brilliant it is. It was a great candidate for a remake.

Definitely one of the best videos on the remake so far. Edit- Oh, i feel the complete opposite about Eddie though. His scenes are the one example of something i think was improved across the board in the remake. I think they make him WAY more sympathetic via his first interaction with James, asking to come along and feeling dejected after he says no, then subtly taking offense to James’ appetite comment in the theatre. I think he was handled so much better in the remake, I’d recommend watching all of the cutscenes with him back-to-back for a better impression of what I’m referring to Edit- oh i feel the opposite about Laura too, i just don’t feel comfortable criticizing her performance since she’s a child and it’s not terrible. But her freak out on James at the end was exactly what I’d use as an example of a BAD scene with her, personally-i thought it sounded very emotionless and inauthentic. Again, shes just a kid though so it didn’t bother me, i just felt more impact from the original in that scene. Still great video though and I’ve agreed with the majority of your takes Edit- aaaahhhhhhhhh man to say the original soundtrack wasn’t soulful? Especially in comparison with the remake? Come on, that’s ridiculous. The remake ost is 10/10, but it’s much more cinematic/higher-budget sounding, where the original felt more raw and indie/experimental. Fair points but one thing on that last one; I wasn't saying the original soundtrack wasn't soulful, I was specifically referring to the track "Theme of Laura", and by soulful, I meant more in terms of style rather than quality. I was trying to make the point that the new rendition is much softer on the ears and traded that raw, heavy feeling for something much more melancholic (which a lot of people didn't like by the way). It wasn't meant as a dig at either version, I was simply making note of the stylistic differences the two songs/soundtracks have, which is, like you said, much more climatic and higher budget in comparison to the old, which also trades away the "rawer" elements. It's all preference, I have favorites in both versions of the OST.

I kinda had that same thought as well at some points but I ended up cutting that line since I thought it was a little nitpicky. I still do think they could've toned down on it a little bit though, since the atmosphere carries the game almost as well as the original. No need for that weird ass combat trial they threw in near the Angela fight.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is an excellent masterpiece by Bloober Team, noting the fact the original Silent Hill 2 was considered a sales failure back in 2001 by Team Silent. The game is a representational artform where I believe (This is my opinion and interpretations) that James is already dead (or somewhat his body is unconscious) after taking SUICIDE (my guess is just about one to three weeks after ending Mary's life, or maybe also by time loop because the deity forbids leaving the fog world). The locations where you could find the words, "There was a hole here. it's gone now", has meaning in reference to Silent Hill 4: The Room. The protagonist, Harry, can travel to at least three dimensions (reality, fog world/purgatory, and otherworld/hell), BUT can ONLY traverse the dimension through "the hole" or when someone is fighting for their life (dead or unconscious). Also, in Silent Hill 1 Movie, no one is allowed to leave the fog world in Silent Hill unless permission is given by the cult's deity. James' soul is delusional and somehow trapped to find his lost memories in Silent Hill. His soul is either to be RESURECTED (Rebirth if died or be released to fog world if unconscious) or become a sacrifice to INCUBUS (Alessa), the cult of the Order's deity. In reference to Maria DLC of original Silent Hill 2, entitled "born from a wish", and also in Silent Hill 3, where their concept coincides, "the wish" did not came from James but from Alessa. In order to make James become a sacrifice to the demonic god-like entity. In SH4 and SH: Homecoming, the entity, after sacrificing 21 souls, would require another sacrifice thereafter to remain existing. And James, serves this purpose, the DLC Born from a wish, was not actually from James but by Alessa. The Pyramid-head man is actually the executioner of the cult. They help serve the deity by making sacrifices. If James is a SINNER, he deserves to die. But several instances of Pyramid-head encounters and cut-scenes suggests otherwise. James is INNOCENT. The idea of the executioner, even back from the middle-ages in Europe, wears a red (suggest it was from a cult) or brown cone-like cloth (not metal in the game) head covering face, to conceal the beheader of a convicted criminal (reference to images found on the internet and in-game content, inside Toluca Prison). The wish, where through psyche - influence people like Maria. She has facial resemblance to Mary (but not body figure and personality. Also, Maria is blonde and blue-eyes, while Mary is a brunette and hazel-eyes) to make James REGRET his action to end Mary's life. Angela is a rape victim, to imply Mary is VICTIM. Eddie is a serial killer, suggesting that James is a MURDERER. Laura is a child Mary did not have, even said, "You DIDN'T LOVE her anyway." In addition to this, I would say NO when they say Maria is an imagination, and it is big coincidence that she is Mary's look-alike, because during Silent Hill 2 DLC: Born from a Wish, Maria is a person who works in Heaven's Night as a Bartender. Just like Angela Orosco, who lives near Silent Hill Lumberyard, because her father, Thomas Orosco is a lumberjack. Her mistake was to follow James to Silent Hill after asking him why he has to go. James said to look for someone special. Angela actually feels that her mother is still in Silent Hill after leaving them. After entering Silent Hill, Angela is also becoming trapped inside the fog. Back to Maria, all her relations in work left because of the monster sightings. It frightens them. She is independent, liberated and brave woman. She handles a revolver from the Bar's office and grabs a Chinese knife. By then, she decided to follow the others who left. She left her safe place in Heaven's Night Bar. She tries to survive the horror and finds way how to escape the fog (But in reference to Silent Hill 1 Movie, the town does not permit anybody leaving if the fog is already settled). She founds the Baldwin Mansion open. Inside, she helped Ernest Baldwin to find a "white liquid", or in other game called "white chrism", from Blue Creek Apartment to supposedly miraculously bring her dead daughter back, Amy (one of the 21 sacrifices to summon the cult's deity). She found herself doubting and delusional about the idea of resurrection. After undergoing such terror and finding out that she was speaking to a ghost, but I believe Ernest is speaking from the other dimension. Also, I think Ernest is an occult member. Also, I found a striking notion to remember with Ernest is that he was surprised after meeting Maria, and said, "Oh, you must be...". I guess, Maria is the representation of the GOBLET, James is the White Chrism, but the Philosopher's stone (or Book of Lost souls) is unknown. All three or four are combined, in order to revive or summon the cult of the Order's Deity Goddess. Then he asks her to be careful about James, that he is a danger (as the cult presumes). She pursues to find him, otherwise. I believe the summoned powerful entity is preparing James, and Maria is one of the objects to start this test. The dimension theory where there are at least three (3): (1) Reality, (2) Fog world (in Catholic Christianity is called Purgatory), and (3) the otherworld (or Hell). James seems to be delusional and has amnesia, because he is in Purgatory. His soul is searching (similar to Silent Hill 4) for answers. For Alessa to take his soul as a sacrifice, James must kill himself by suicide. His corruption (SH4) is evident by having dirty fingers and bugged eyes as game progresses (also when taking too much damage - his back literally shows corruption). Alessa made a way for other people to influence this (Alessa's wish). The best ending could be about REBIRTH (reference to other video bloggers idea about "Tibetan Book of the Dead"), and the worst ending could be about ending James life by SUICIDE where he literally drove his car to lake and die drowning. This achieves Alessa's wish to make James willingly sacrifice his soul to INCUBUS. (As the executioner has doubt if James is guilty or INNOCENT --- three times shown during boss fights and cut scenes when the executioner literally ignores him or leaves uninterestedly after some time). I believe Pyramid-head is the Executioner. Well, executioner back in the middle-ages in Europe, wearing Cone-like cloth head covering (not metal) before beheading a convicted criminal, to conceal who he is. Pyramid-head helps the cult's deity to offer chosen sacrifices by hunting and killing them. But not in James's case, you see, I believe James is not guilty for killing Mary, he is INNOCENT. Evident many ways the Pyramid-head always do when meeting James in cut-scenes and boss fights. The executioner is doubtful and ignores James all the time. In the two Pyramid-head boss fight, the BGM (background music) is entitled "Betrayal" in SH2 Official Soundtrack. The Executioner is actually disregarding the cult of Orders principle of not slaying the innocent, in order to offer a soul to the chosen vessel of the deity. This is because in part to what Alessa (vessel of the deity) would otherwise will do. In Maria DLC, born from a wish, is not James's wish, but of Alessa's wish. In order to acquire James's soul, the entity manipulated people like Maria, who resembles Mary in face but not body, personality, blue-eyes, and blonde hair, while Mary is pale, conservative, hazel-eyes, and brunette hair. Maria crossed path to make James regret taking Mary's life. Angela is a rape victim, to imply Mary is a victim. Eddie is a serial killer, to suggest James is a murderer. Laura is a child Mary didn't had, who despise him, even saying, "You didn't love her anyway." All these manipulations, to suggest James to end his life by suicide, in contrast to the executioner, which is doubtful as it believes James is innocent. I'm stilled puzzled between the relationship of Maria and Mary. Mary is supposed to be a sacrifice for the summoning or a victim. As shown from an image of pyramid head with hanged rectangular structures in Toluca Prison. In relation to Mary boss fight when she changes to a ghostly figure with rectangular structure. While Maria who died several times while with James suggested that from DLC born from a wish, when Ernest Baldwin got surprised when speaking to Maria, "Oh! you must be...", suggests otherwise. She is the representation of the Goblet, while James is the White Chrism, and the Philosopher's stone is their child. The cult's demonic deity goddess DOESN'T want Maria to die because the next person it will possess is James's offspring. Mary and Maria are different person.

I totally agree about Maria, this time around its like shes a different character, I remember watching a making Of video from the original, I think it came with the game, the devs were talking about Maria as the main selling point getting her right was pivotal to SH2 being a success and it was a huge technical achievement at the time. This time around I dont think a voice and mocap actor could pull something like that off, I would have loved if they just updates the original Maria and just improved the graphics.

One thing that pisses me off is that a lot of people making videos on the remake and shitting on it haven't even played the original. You can't be the authority on what dictates whether the remake is good or not if you haven't even experienced the original game. Play the fucking game, _then_ share your opinion on what you think about the remake. I personally think the remake is pretty good. Some aspects were better or more charming in the original, but I don't think there's anything that directly sucks compared to the OG. It's a more serious, modern take on SH2 and that's exactly what I thought it would be. Personally, it doesn't offend me.

AYY NEW VIDEO! On the Remake no less. I find a lot of it crazy just how many people did not play the original or set out to at least try the original first before diving into this. I'm glad to see a much more honest review compared to what I've seen talked about during its initial pre-purchased reviews. But it is also very nice that you mentioned that Silent Enhanced had its final update which is a good reminder for me to give the game its proper due respect. I sadly don't have much interest in Remake since it honestly would've better suited the company to do the OG Silent Hill since that one is forever stuck on PS1. And rumor has it they're doing 3 next which has me a bit concerned. Fun video, glad to see something from you so soon.

I may prefer SH2, but SH1 will forever be the most influential horror game out there to me. Countless indie games take notes from it, so seeing it sitting and collecting dust is rough. But for what it's worth, I think SH2 got some very good treatment with the remake, and is undoubtedly the best Silent Hill has been since the Team Silent era. Regardless of whatever gripes we could bring up, it's still nice to see so much attention being given to the franchise again. I think that will at least push people to actually play the originals if they haven't already. A bad remake would've just destroyed whatever interest the newer generation had for the games most likely, so I'm happy with how it turned out. Cheers brother.

@@Green--X I very much appreciated the effort you went into praising how the team did with a lot of the good aspects but also some of the rougher parts that could be nitpicked. But I do agree on this. I find it annoying that now EVERY so many games let characters closely examine objects that are of no real interest. Same with yellow paint which can be helpful but it just feels insulting when placed in areas that a regular could figure out on their own. Back briefly back to the remake, there is one thing that nags at me, for an M rated game they toned down Angela's backstory at least from what I saw as I sure as shit can't afford it with the Canadian funny money. That and when I talked to a friend who is a film guy, he noted how cheap the new camera angles were. He's making a video talking about it sometime soon after his I think short film is done. But aside from some weird line reads that could've been better, people noted how the character designs changed from looking at the digital artbook of the concept art. And how they would've preferred if they had gone with those designs rather than the changes made to what we see present. James looks great if not better than before. Though I do miss some of the odd changes to the joke ending. I patiently await what else you got in store. Once I play through these games proper. I will be sure to return and comment again to those reviews with my new perspective having played them. Cheers. my problem with remakes is that they are cutting out the "remake" part from the title so we got two games of the same title and i fear one day the original will only be remembered as a lesson in gaming's history and it shall become less played as the years go by your video honestly swayed me towards giving this game a try one day as a remake it looks more faithful than the one made for demon's souls

That's cool to hear man. I don't mind a remake making big changes in theory, since it's kind of a lose-lose situation no matter how you frame it. If you change too much, it isn't faithful. If you follow the script to the maximum, it will be too safe and not earn the people's respect. It's such a risky move that I would just suggest doing remasters/re-releases instead of remakes, since no one can argue with those. Despite all of that though, I think Silent Hill 2 (2024) will go down as probably the best thing SH has gotten since the original Silent Hill 2 itself. Instead of replacing the original, it gives you a fantastic alternative to enjoying the game. In fact, I'd argue it would get more people interested in the original since the fans would want to see what was different and how far it's come. I'm already seeing KZbin live streams of the original game in my recommended since the Remake's release. It's a very nice thing to see.

I just don't get the point of remakes like this one. I am sure it is good but even by the end of the video it's said it's "not better than the original". The problem with entertainment nowadays is it's just slope remake after remake after re-imagining after remake... We are never going to get a Godfather or ET or Halo or Silent Hill 2 for this generation and honestly that makes me depressed. Remaking things like RE2 or 3 made some sense because the game play was held back by things like tank controls and if there was a SH game to remake than why not Homecoming or the western ones that didn't land?

The game legit isn't bad. It's a good remake, SPECIALLY considering what remakes have been in the last years. But it's fucking facts that they used a DEI consultory called Hit Detection, and oh God, it shows man. Uglyfication of Angela, censorship of the woman that represents James sexual desires for his wife. And that it's only what I have been able to notice so far, people are still bringing up new details of changes that are obviously because of DEI. And it's so tiring that you can't even bring those things up and criticise them without being massacred by the endless mob that is praising this game until the end. Because 90% of creators, let alone reviewers, are blatantly avoiding these subjects and some even seem afraid of criticising. It's ridiculous. In the international internet there is some people talking about it. But here in my country there is literally no one. If you dare comment about it in a KZbin video of the game...

I think it's totally fair to criticize Angela not looking closer to the original but she was not "uglified". Her original rendition looks older, dishevilled and sickly. They arguably should have kept closer to the original but she wasn't ever attractive. Not to mention wanting a victim of child sexual abuse to be hotter in the first place is just gross.

Good game. Awful remake. Play the original again, watch the making of, you'll get it. One simple instance where it's obvious they missed the point of the tone and horror of the OG is the morgue bit in the prison. There are corpses in the room, and James comments on one of them maybe had moved, but actually nothing ever moves, and this is a great psychological mindfckery in the OG. In remake, guess what? They show the corpse's feet move with sound. There are lot more things they get wrong. Maria's outfit, censored/toned down PH moments. The crucial "sex" aspect of the horror toned down significantly.

Lol angela and maria have literally been butchered not just in their design but their voice acting as well. At least the bad voice acting in the original was funny because its still a japanese game and gets lost in translation sometimes but this time its european game and it tries to take itself so seriously that its cringe.
