I don't think it's good for the industry to get so much into this remake trend, that became completely crazy lately... and at least to me it's unfortunate that the own community is accepting the situation. That has turned the current gaming generation (ps4-5) into the worst of all time in originality and creativity. Ok that SH2 was remade, i'll take it. But going from that to requesting the remakes of the rest of the original games, that is too much. Before they released this remake I was very skeptical of a remake of the rest since why would they start with 2, but now I think they started here because 1. This is the most popular entry in the series (I think!) and 2. It gives them the chance to rebuild trust from fans and see if they can actually do it. I do hope to see remakes of 1, 3 & 4 as well! They don’t really need a remake but it would be awesome to see them in a newer light & with the same depth as this remake (Such as conversation depth and world building ).

Now, I am so happy to see Silent Hill 2 reinvented so beautifully, by people who obviously love and respect the material they are working with. I am not exaggerating when I compare it to Peter Jackson when he brought Tolkien’s work to the screens so we could grasp it on another dimension. In my opinion this SH2 remake is a work of art and whole new generations of people will be able to enjoy Silent Hill on all its glory. Thank you Bloober for your amazing work.

The actor nailed James's sadness, fatigue and despair
@hainhatphung1371Ай бұрын
James is more heavy on his grief, guilt and greed in this remake. Heavy sigh, eyebrows, tired and desperate... I love everything in this remade James. OG James is like OG Leon in RE4, spouting nut wacky lines with a clear determination ahead. Still love him! That all goes to the remade Maria/Mary, I really love the heavier tone and impression of wanting more than care or attention. Her every move is very tempting on James to let his Mary go and accept this new Maria. That and I hate the companion system in the original game, a LOT.
@carlosaugusto9821Ай бұрын
That detail is also important. There was a whole different game making culture in the ps1 and ps2 gens, that isn't the dominant one in modern gaming, like it or not. So modern remakes of games from that era could never replicate some of those vibes, including dialogue. RE also is influenced by that change. Then the matter turns out to be this: when RE makes those changes it is criticized by some fans but it's seen as minor stuff... but SH does the exact same changes and it's bashed by many fans as a big deal. So people tend to be less forgiving towards SH and more forgiving towards RE even when they change the exact same attributes. (Another case is how some old school horror fans are freaking out about the over the shoulder gameplay... but did they have that same harsh reaction to all RE games with that over the shoulder gameplay?)
@RabaikalАй бұрын
Because RE ist just an action zombie game and SH is a very personal story heavy, psychological and philosophical game. It’s considered a piece of art by many, RE isn’t.
@carlosaugusto9821Ай бұрын
@@Rabaikal I like the analogy that relates RE to a conventional action movie (even since RE1, and just much more after RE4), and relates SH to a movie that has a bit of action but is heavy in introspection and psychology, etc... It's even generally designed in a way that combat is more easily avoidable than in RE.

The remake was phenomenal, and it wasn't exploitive. It maintained the original I held with high regard, and just gave it a facelift. My favorite apart about the game has always been the eerie atmospheric music. Brian Eno meets Trent Reznor is how I would describe Akira's sound; although, he is of course an original composer and a genius in his genre. I don't use that genius word lightly either. They've made the game scarier, and I thought that would be impossible to do - especially considering the time it was released, and the age I was when playing it. I was wrong - and I HIGHLY recommend it. A faithful remaster that anyone who wasn't old enough, or even alive, to play the original can enjoy and authentically experience Silent Hill the way it's meant to be experienced.

Not that i'm against any remake ever, but the problem is the overuse of remakes, that is very clearly the situation of the current gaming world. It's everywhere, in many different genres. The companies are abusing the nostalgia of the classics in order to keep themselves together, in a situation when they are declining in creative drive. Ehhhhh I would not give credit to Konami for this. Why? Because Konami is a shitty company who's only claim to fame in recent years is having two of the worst rated games of all time back to back and investing heavily in gambling machines in Asia. They haven't been a notable developer since Kojima was forced out of the company a decade ago. The release of this game and the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 are both because they are trying to keep the rights to both IPs. It's why they picked the most popular games of each series to remake instead of the first ones. Sorry not trying to be a downer, but they are shitty corporate overlords. The only good things they did were picking Bloober Team to develop the game and not interfering with their vision/direction. All of the things you said are true, but credit belongs to Bloober Team. This was one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm grateful it was made. But just think the right people should be acknowledged

Silent Hill had a huge impact on my journey with horror games since i was a kid. I might say that it started my intrest in horror games. I didnt play Silent Hill 2 original by myself but i used to watch my older brother play. I was to young to understand this game and i am glad i could expirience it in modern version by myslef and get the idea of it as an adult and finally understand everything.

A fantastic remake. I love almost everything about it and i think it's more towards modernizing an old game rather than reimagining or completely remaking the whole game like Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 Remake. I think these 3 games resembled nothing to the original but in a very good way except maybe 3, lol. This is what Silent Hill 2 looks like in my child brain back 23 years ago.

LOVED this game. They nailed the atmosphere, the sound, the combat, the visuals and oh my goodness - the scare factor. 9/10 from me. :D

This remake is criminally good, it should be illegal to top the original game, but you did so. Kudos for the team

I don't know about you but I feel that James is so far (if not the most vivid character in video games), everyone did a great job.

Props to Salóme Gunnarsdottir, the actress that played Mary/Maria for still having the dedication to work and act on the gaming development while being pregnant.

I've only just gotten to the Hospital part of the game chasing that little brat, and I've been questioning so much, like the sounds and atmosphere is generally terrifying
