This is the most popular entry in the series (I think!) and 2. It gives them the chance to rebuild trust from fans and see if they can actually do it. I do hope to see remakes of 1, 3 & 4 as well! Now, I am so happy to see Silent Hill 2 reinvented so beautifully, by people who obviously love and respect the material they are working with. I am not exaggerating when I compare it to Peter Jackson when he brought Tolkien’s work to the screens so we could grasp it on another dimension. The remake was phenomenal, and it wasn't exploitive. It maintained the original I held with high regard, and just gave it a facelift. My favorite apart about the game has always been the eerie atmospheric music. Brian Eno meets Trent Reznor is how I would describe Akira's sound; although, he is of course an original composer and a genius in his genre. I don't use that genius word lightly either. They've made the game scarier, and I thought that would be impossible to do - especially considering the time it was released, and the age I was when playing it. I was wrong - and I HIGHLY recommend it. A faithful remaster that anyone who wasn't old enough, or even alive, to play the original can enjoy and authentically experience Silent Hill the way it's meant to be experienced.

James is more heavy on his grief, guilt and greed in this remake. Heavy sigh, eyebrows, tired and desperate... I love everything in this remade James. OG James is like OG Leon in RE4, spouting nut wacky lines with a clear determination ahead. Still love him! That all goes to the remade Maria/Mary, I really love the heavier tone and impression of wanting more than care or attention. Her every move is very tempting on James to let his Mary go and accept this new Maria. That and I hate the companion system in the original game, a LOT.
@carlosaugusto98213 ай бұрын
That detail is also important. There was a whole different game making culture in the ps1 and ps2 gens, that isn't the dominant one in modern gaming, like it or not. So modern remakes of games from that era could never replicate some of those vibes, including dialogue. RE also is influenced by that change. Then the matter turns out to be this: when RE makes those changes it is criticized by some fans but it's seen as minor stuff... but SH does the exact same changes and it's bashed by many fans as a big deal. So people tend to be less forgiving towards SH and more forgiving towards RE even when they change the exact same attributes. (Another case is how some old school horror fans are freaking out about the over the shoulder gameplay... but did they have that same harsh reaction to all RE games with that over the shoulder gameplay?)
@Rabaikal3 ай бұрын
Because RE ist just an action zombie game and SH is a very personal story heavy, psychological and philosophical game. It’s considered a piece of art by many, RE isn’t.

@@Rabaikal I like the analogy that relates RE to a conventional action movie (even since RE1, and just much more after RE4), and relates SH to a movie that has a bit of action but is heavy in introspection and psychology, etc... @@jarlwhiterun7478 If this studio has proved itself worthy (and that's a big deal... the 1st western studio that did a great work with SH, after the departure of the original devs) then i'd rather get them involved in a brand new game and not pushed into this ridiculous trend of remakes. Not that i'm against any remake ever, but the problem is the overuse of remakes, that is very clearly the situation of the current gaming world. It's everywhere, in many different genres. The companies are abusing the nostalgia of the classics in order to keep themselves together, in a situation when they are declining in creative drive. Like Final Fantasy is being carried by remake hype and not the latest game, Resident Evil is being carried by remake hype and not the latest game, and so on for other franchises. I know Konami is working on a desperate initiative for redeeming themselves, so getting into the remake trend is the safest bet (look at Metal Gear Solid 3 remake too), but i hope they don't overdo remakes in the same way Capcom has been doing with RE, that's one of the most ridiculous cases in the industry... Ehhhhh I would not give credit to Konami for this. Why? Because Konami is a shitty company who's only claim to fame in recent years is having two of the worst rated games of all time back to back and investing heavily in gambling machines in Asia. They haven't been a notable developer since Kojima was forced out of the company a decade ago. The release of this game and the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 are both because they are trying to keep the rights to both IPs. It's why they picked the most popular games of each series to remake instead of the first ones. Sorry not trying to be a downer, but they are shitty corporate overlords. The only good things they did were picking Bloober Team to develop the game and not interfering with their vision/direction. All of the things you said are true, but credit belongs to Bloober Team. This was one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm grateful it was made. But just think the right people should be acknowledged

An interesting fact about the game's peak sound design: I noticed woman's gasps while playing and when I heard it for the first time I actually wondered whether they're real or I'm hearing things. They happen quite rarely, but when I got to the cassette scene, I immediately recognised the sound. Turns out it referenced to Mary's death, like a flashback thing, a memory trying to break through James's amnesia. This one little detail just shows how immaculate and creative work the Bloober Team sound designers pulled off.

LOVED this game. They nailed the atmosphere, the sound, the combat, the visuals and oh my goodness - the scare factor. 9/10 from me. :D

I have to admit, I was SUPER critical about Bloober Team making one of THE horror classics "Silent Hill 2". I was 20 years old when the original SH2 came out and it was such a lifechanging experience. I also had my experience with some of Bloober's titles and for that SUPER critical that it might fail in a big way. But let me say this to you: I NEVER expected Bloober to make such an extraordinary game. Every time Mary reads her letter I cry. Every time James explains himself to Mary and she says "Then why do you look so sad?" it always makes me cry, even when thinking about it. Bloober, you really earned my respect again. It was so good I even had the motivation to Platinum it, and I did. Please keep making great games, I am one of your fans again.

Most streamers/youtubers that are new in playing this game are rushing into it so bad it makes me mad, because they are missing important parts from the story and they don't care...they don't understand that this game is meant to be analyzed and felt from every corner. The developers are correct when they say just stay a moment to listen and look!

We are so lucky to have had such a great team devoted to giving the source material justice. The game was a win for them and a win for the players that got to experience this game again or for the first time! We appreciate the work and understanding the team had of the original game! It one thing to appreciate a masterpiece but to remake it to have the same effect on a modern audience is nothing short of impressive. Bravo!

I was so nervous about the idea of a remake of this game, but I haven't been this happy to be wrong in ages! Finished my first playthrough today, and I am thoroughly impressed!

When I realised I was walking up to Angela's mirror room, because of the doors being the same, I had chills. They really did an amazing job. Silent Hill purists are gonna hate, no matter what. Whether it was the OG SH2 not following the first game, SH3 not following 2, SH4 being weird... it'll never be good enough at first. Just wait for a couple of new releases, and this one will be a classic again

Big reason why you shouldnt jump on the hate bandwagon before something has even released. But haters still gonna hate so guess they'll just never be happy 🤷🏼♀️

ive just gotten to the prison and up to this point ive been constantly going "damn the sound design is soo good" and "the lighting and composition is sooo good". everything is damn good, but its all presented with great subtlety. like everything is super refined in these aspects.

I am not a part of everyone saying “we were wrong” and “the world doubted them and the game” because I didn’t doubt the game for a second. I knew it would be good and everyone needed to just wait and see first
