When James is talking to the girl in the cemetery it almost seems as if they're 2 lost souls trying to find their way to the afterlife.
@ljtheawesome7112
@ljtheawesome7112 3 ай бұрын
ya i'm guessing that is what they were going for. I thought it's interesting that he said "I think I'm lost" and she responded, "Lost...?" as if it was a vaguely familiar word, or maybe to imply "we're all lost, what do you mean?" etc. idk I might be cooking a little too hard here haha. it's a surreal cutscene, ya Edit: I also thought it was interesting how she warned him that there is something wrong in the town...but sort of left out the fact that it is like...violently dangerous. I understand the lore of silent hill is that it is basically purgatory and everyone's silent hill is different for each individual, so maybe her interpretation is more tame than James's. I also wondered why she was so defensive when Jame's tapped her shoulder: "No, I was only-!" as if she was caught doing something she shouldn't have. Like, she seemed confused in the middle of a foggy graveyard? If I was James, I would've assumed that this lady was a dead sprit, you know, so maybe she was looking at her own grave or something, IDK. Would be really interested to see someone who is familiar with the lore to explain what this scene means/who this girl is. I noticed that all of the letters/notes so far, that Jack has found, clearly tie in with each other, like how the letter at the record store said "the guy seemed drunk with one half of the record player", and it just so happened that the other half was at the pub, and how in the vinyl store the poster said "music makes you remember memories which you forgot" and that is exactly what James does when he glues the record back together. TL:DR this scene with the girl clearly has a point and I really wonder what it is as everything so far in this game has been extremely intentional.

@@ljtheawesome7112 I don't want to spoil it for you so I will only say that yes the girl had that reaction for a reason. A major reason. And yes her version of the town is incredibly different from James'. She really wouldn't know what he would consider "dangerous." She is one of my absolute favorite characters in the series for several reasons and I deeply appreciate how they've portrayed her so far.

@@ljtheawesome7112If you want me to flat out explain to you as someone you is very familiar with the lore of the first several games of the series (no, I'm not a "purist" when it comes to game series, I just have delayed reactions thanks to fight/flight/freeze/fawn responses from past trauma so when I got to Homecoming it just wasn't as fun to play. I still followed the series but didn't play them myself more than twice?) I would be more than happy to do so. At least with the lore from the original SH2 since the remake is still new.

I adore the old voice acting. They're like if you gather a bunch of introverted psychopath and let them interact with each other. It's charming in a sense that it's supposed to be so aggravatingly odd and disconnected that you couldn't help but to think that everyone's not who they say they are. But this new voice acting is just... Sublime. They actually sound like real humans now, with emotions! I freakin love it.

Pyramid Head isn’t a manifestation of Jame’s anger, it’s actually his guilt. Silent Hill has a long history of executions and the executioners were dressed like Pyramid Head, James saw the executioners in a painting when he was in Silent Hill with his wife and it stuck with him. Pyramid Head is the manifestation of James’ guilt and his unconscious belief that he deserves to be punished for what he did even though he doesn’t remember. His purpose is to force James to remember that he is guilty, which is why when he does remember, he tells Pyramid Head that he no longer needs him.

For reference, within Silent Hill lore, the town of Silent Hill is a real resort town and people live there normally. Thanks to the nature of the sacred land, things like ritual and superstition have power. Due to various circumstances, Silent Hill generally presents itself in a few ways. Silent Hill, the 'real world' resort town - Foggy World, the primary place that those who are 'lost', in a way, may end up (presents itself differently to different people) - and Otherworld, the nightmare brought to life (also presents itself differently to different people).

I don't think the creators actually intended it that way. None of them have confirmed this, and I think they've even said the opposite. As far as I've seen, Silent Hill is just straight up abandoned. The people are just gone and there isn't an explanation as to why. This 'different world' theory is fan-made from what I've seen. The 'fog world' and 'otherworld' were just terms in the guide to differentiate the altered states of the same world. People misunderstood what it meant.

@@ZehShugugn Going by that logic doesn't hold up when you consider James makes points throughout this game that even just a few years ago he and his wife were regularly vacationing in Silent Hill and even later his wife was hospitalized in Silent Hill's hospital until recently. Similarly, despite many years passing after the chaos of the first Silent Hill and 2, there is dialogue in both SH 3 and 4 that point not only to people and businesses being in Silent Hill still, but crimes as well. Despite the town seeming empty in the games themselves, flavor text, interactables, and broadcasts seem to paint the town as still active in some capacity. None of this would make sense if the town has been abandoned ever since SH1.

Currently, only one person remains there; they refuse to leave. There's supposedly a very haunted church at the top of the hill and my friend and I are going to explore it when it gets warmer out!

fun fact: "There was a HOLE here, it's GONE now", is a symbolism of James's alcoholism. "HOLE", being the depth of his psyche, and "GONE" being that he now has to face what he's dealing with. like most people who suffer from alchoholism do, James drowned his sorrows and problems with drinking. Hence why, he finds this in Neely's. Now, the hole he was "fulfilling" is no longer available, and he must fight through and explore his inner concious with clear vision.

8:30 that ghosting is caused either by TAA (temporal anti aliasing) or DLSS/FSR, its a product of the frames having to be processed by whichever algorithm is being used having to upscale from a smaller resolution (in the case of DLSS/FSR) or smooth out edges based on previous frames (in the case of TAA). it is kinda annoying once you notice it

Playing the originals, I fear, has a feeling that is lost....back then that was the best/height of graphics and game play kinda thing, so expectations were different. It was terrifying as a young kid, and so thoroughly fleshed out, an experience like no other at the time. The nostalgia hits very hard with these, especially the soundtracks, but it's amazing to bring the love of this to a new generation/people who never got to experience it. I LOVE that Jack is the one to bring this to us, I'm hoping and confident he'll do it justice and get more to appreciate it.

In the story's end, you are asked on who the blame falls. The man for approaching the woman with the blade. The woman for carelessly running into the snake. Or the snake for simply being there. James for murdering his sick wife. His sick wife who fell ill. Or the disease that made his wife fall ill. By choosing the snake, Jack blames the disease that caused Mary to be bedridden and left James all alone. Let's see if unforeseen consequences arise later from this simple blame game...

@@seanwallcroft6272 the interpretation can also go around the feeling of being restrained or stuck, but also, if you look at them closely, they look like the Y cut made in the mortuaries, like they are stuck in a bag of flesh and skin. @NexusVal
@NexusVal 3 ай бұрын
@@payt00n The creature design in this game specifically is profound! I mentioned it in some other comments but I'll resend it here: The main straitjacket looking monsters were designed when Ito (who I believe was the character designer) was working late at night and one of his co-workers walked by with his hoodie up and his arms in the sweater pockets. He found it gave him an unnerving and horrifying silhouette paired with the dark atmosphere of their workplace at that hour. That, paired with the later combination of BDSM tropes is supposed to signify sexual frustrations as well as embody some other things surrounding James' character that I wont get into for fear of spoilers. Pyramind Head who was originally meant to be a character exclusive to James and what he's experiencing in the town (though im fairly sure that's a character that got changed to not be exclusive to James because of how iconic it became), was supposed to be an embodiment for Sunderland's shame and guilt. The massive and heavy pyramid on his head forces him to hold his gaze down in shame. Its a cool touch. Theres a lot more! I recommend diving as deep into it as you can if you're interested in character design, it really doesn't get much better than this.

I feel like the reason they made the game's combat and controls better are likely because of the new generation where most of their games don't have tank controls, not to mention that there are probably a good number who might not even be able to comprehend tank controls given that they grew up with games with either 3rd person over-the-shoulder or first person camera angles.
@FastForwardPlans
@FastForwardPlans 3 ай бұрын
Sometimes retro game mechanics can hold up pretty good, such as turn based combat, topdown perspectives, etc. Tank controls however, have been abandoned because it was never fun, unless you are driving a tank. I do think the combat gives you a greater sense of power then makes sense for our protagonist, which lowers the tension, but its not much. The protagonist is still weak enough that 2 enemies at once is more then enough to make things frantic.
@kitsune4760
@kitsune4760 3 ай бұрын
@@FastForwardPlans Yeah, I'm with you on that. Turn-based is retro but it's also not at the same time. It's one of those things that I don't think we'll really get rid of any time soon since any grid-based strategy game usually opporates in phases/turns. Or the older Final Fantasies which had their turn based combat. But yeah, some things have a charm to them while other things sort of lost that sort of sparkle when better and more effective methods came out such as tank controls for most games being sort of forgotten unless like you said, you're driving a tank.

In Alien: Isolation, I always hid under desks in the game. I'll never forget the way my heart dropped and how my blood ran cold when I noticed that after about an hour and a half, the alien started checking under all the desks. Same with the noise maker, after a handful of times it started to mostly ignore it. It really added to the tension that I had to constantly adapt how I tried to survive. It's still one of my all-time favourite scary games. Also, guess what, Jack!? I'm in Ireland right now! It's my first time traveling, and I love it. We visited my great great grandfather's old home and his grave. Saw where my family used to work in the twine making industry. Now I'm in Galway, where I will be watching my sister present her thesis at Atlantic Technological University. I even got myself my own Aran wool sweater! And I got to see the Cliffs of Moher! I've never drank so much Guinness in my life! 😅 I even saw the Book of Kells! It was breathtakingly gorgeous. I was so scared to fly, and I'm terrified of the flight back home. I'm sad to be going back to Canada tomorrow, but I'm glad I came. I hope to visit your beautiful country again.

I was having the worst day. Woke up depressed from nightmares about my ex fiance who cheated on me, went to work just to have customers treat me like shit. Just wanted to go home and shut out everything. And then i see Jack uploaded, and turned my day completely around. Your videos help me so much. ❤

That sucks dude. Me myself went to the emergency with fever, stomach cramps, and diaréea. Turns out I probably caught salmonella. Let's just say I had a pretty "shit" couple of days myself. 😅 But it will pass. For the both of us. Stay strong! ❤

Your videos help me so much. I stopped watching this video halfway through three months ago because my life go too busy and hectic. I just had no time. But my dog I had since I was 8 (I’m 20 now) passed away this past morning and I decided I need time for myself. I needed a distraction and ever since I was little I would watch your videos whenever I needed a pick me up or a distraction. I know you probably won’t see this, but I wanted to let you know how much you and your videos mean to people. Without this content I can just sit for a few hours and take my mind off life- I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night when it feels like the whole world is crashing down around me. You’re a great scores of comfort to have and for that I am forever grateful. Thank you so much. You are very very appreciated. :)

bruh, live in the pnw, that pull-back shot at the beginning, brain immediately like "my homeland???" they utterly nailed it. there's just something about how the fog sits in these forests, with the high volumes of moss and ferns on the ground, grey sky with sun kinda showing, everything wet but not raining -- even that sort of trash can? perfect. i've never had a game get that kind of immediate recognition from me. the artists did great; they clearly know how to work the graphics engine they've got going, too.

Also from the pnw and yep they nailed it. Thick woods with the fog was perfect looking. Such a mood.

Also from PNW, and in the fall when the fog rolls in thick and you can’t see how far down it is to the water, with those silly little guard rails. It especially reminds me of the towns you go through taking the Amtrack Coast Starlight down from Washington through Oregon, I love it.

i live in eastern washington, but i grew up in puyallup. there's nothing i miss more than waking up to find that it's so foggy i can barely see outside my windows. oh how i long for the torrential amounts of rain and constant seasonal depression.

@@tobyandahalf legit tho, as much as this area is gorgeous, i would definitely like to not be constantly sad and soggy for 9mo of the year lmao

16:09 same! i mean, i don't want to feel like something is coming to kill me, but i love the aesthetic of a place like this. the woods, the atmosphere, the fog, the gloominess and quiet. it feels so comfortable and fun to explore!
