If there's one fun fact about Silent Hill that I love, it's the fact that the fog was originally supposed to hide the poor render distance and wasn't meant to be a trope in the other games but due to the popularity, it became just that.
@M_reapr25 күн бұрын
It also stuck as well due to their inspirations from many horror writers but in particular Stephen kings the mist

I cannot express enough how overjoyed I am that you're playing this. I remember quite a few high profile youtubers back in late 2013-early 2014 or so playing the demo for this, but not sticking around long enough to play it when it had released. I've always been so curious on what the game ended up being like, so glad someone like you that really engages with environmental storytelling is going to be giving it a shot. Even if you don't complete it, looking forward to what does get played of it.

This makes me wish they had remade 1 instead of 2. I get that 2 is popular but 1 is a perfect mixture of religious and psychological horror, and the take of the protagonist being a witness of someone else's trauma is extremely interesting and has been simply forgotten because 2's formula became a favourite.

SH1… ‘sort of’ got a remake in Shattered Memories but I’m gonna be honest I wanna give Sam Barlow far less credit for a SH remake, less credit than I want to admit to Bloober for doing SH2. Shattered Memories was a great title for the game though because that’s exactly what it did to players’ memories of the first game!!

@@Luc_ienn There were some interesting ideas in Shattered Memories. I really enjoyed the cellphone mechanics. But I really didn't like the way the story was handled. So yeah.... title is accurate lmao

I'm hoping that they go back and remake 1 after 2, then move onto 3 then 4. After that they don't need to remake any others, they can move on
@DarkwaveMistress26 күн бұрын
@@BrendanB-j4c honestly? I don't believe 3 and 4 need remakes (ok, maybe 4 because of the awful combat). But 3 is just perfect. Not everything needs to be remade. However 1 is a good candidate because of the technological limitations when it released. And yeah, they can leave the rest. I don't hate them but there's not need.

I saw in a video of yours from two years ago (exploration gone wrong) that someone commented you should play alchemilla... I checked, and lo and behold, 9 hours ago you've just started. what a coincidence!
@Luc_ienn26 күн бұрын
In my restless dreams…I see that town…Source Engine… This fangame really is a great fusion of Silent Hill and Source. As I didn’t have any Sony consoles for a while in my youth, Alchemilla was the first time I got to play and finish a Silent Hill game, even if it’s a fan game. It’s not extremely representative of the traditional Silent Hill experience, as you point out, but it does get a lot right. The environment is far more detailed than any of the PS1/2 titles and the puzzles fit that “medium puzzle difficulty” you’d find in the first 3 games. Overall, this one brings back fond memories. I can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years since this came out!

I love the graphics and textures of this game. I'll be really excited for the next episodes, this series seems to be one of my favourites!(Lost in Vivo and Silent Hill 2 are the other 2 i really like). I love seeing new stuff getting old and broken over time then seeing it all in destroyed flesh horror mode. It just feels magical to me. Lately I have been playing the Source games for the 500th time and I didn't even knew this existed. It’s actually a misconception that SH is about the trauma and things the main character went through. That’s what SH2 is about, but 1, 3, and 4 are all about the effects of religious trauma and cult sacrifice specifically.

The noise filter really adds a lot to the ascetic of silent hill. Each of the original 3 excluding 1 used either a heavy or light noise filter it also helps that the color grading is accurate to the original and a lot of the textures from what i remember are taken from the original games. Silent hill is a physical place btw all the characters in the original 3 excluding 4 (which takes place in walters dreams of sh) had the main characters drive to silent hill. Also i love me a 1 for 1 recreation of alchemilla. Also also SH is a real place and what causes the paranormal activity is the towns ancient power which has the ability to project peoples dreams (or mostly nightmares) onto reality. The cult controls this power and because its an abrahmic cult the towns energy tends to affect people who are guilty of sin. So this is why people who are attracted to silent hill tend to have a harrowing past. Also its not explicitly due to sin but also centers around the god the cult is attempting to birth and when that embryo gets excitable the energy in town fluctuates the "god" has power because the cult controls the towns power and thus their will dictates this god control over it. Its kinda complicated but also extremely simple at the same time. Whats complicated is the nature and source of the power whats simple is the motivations and direction of the power. This game also uses silent hill ost and original songs.

In 1962, a fire broke out in an abandoned coal mine and has been burning unabated ever since. At the time, it was brought under control within a few hours, but remained far from being extinguished. The smouldering inferno continued to spread under the town and toxic fumes began to seep from the vents. The town has since been evacuated and is now inhabited only by a few stubborn residents. They refuse to leave and abandon their city to the devastation.
