I interpreted the boiler room as a place of trauma for Alessa. After all, she was burned when the boiler room exploded and coused her to be immolated. So it makes sense there's a burning body in the center of the boiler room when you fight the boss.

This area sets the NOPE meter so high in the game, I literally threw chair in one of my time crossing the school. That 1:24 "Just a cat" for example, creates a false sense of safety and just when you feel relieved, BAM! The real jumpscare came. Silent hill (before 4) and Fatal Frame (specifically 2 and 3) are among the most scary video games ever created imo.

I feel so bad for that cat in the locker. But it's a pretty cool metaphor. It forced the player to choose whether or not to free the cat, immediately resulting in its death. Then you get to revisit the locker, filled with blood and gore. If you had left it alone, the cat would have lived. Your curiosity killed it.

I played the European version, I’m sure it’s implied in that version that Leonard Rhine was a janitor at the school that molested Alyssa in the school boiler room hence “the monster lurks”. It also explains why the boiler room monster is shaped the way it is, could possibly also be another reason why heather carries the fears she has into the third game. I could be way off base though, would love to know your thoughts though. Your videos rock btw, keep them up, there is so much stuff under the surface of these games !

Recently, they've been way more open to licensing out the IP. Dead by Daylight got a Silent Hill chapter last year and now Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals is getting a Silent Hill DLC as well. I think the possibility of another studio making a game for the IP is super high right now.

Ahh! Envious of you, going through it for the first time. Just a spoilerless tip if you want to avoid unintentionally skipping a piece of the story, which I did in my first playthrough - once you reach the resort area map, you'll see a bridge in the middle that leads over to a lighthouse. Don't try and go there too quickly. Explore the right hand side of the map first.

I'm actually dreading going through the sewers. Not gonna lie, but I absolutely hate bugs, especially roaches. I'm hoping that the sewers are nothing more than a passage, cuz I'm considering trying to blaze through them with the help of a walkthrough.I appreciate the tip, BTW! I'll be sure to explore the resort area before heading to the lighthouse!

@@MrRedberet They are a kind of maze 😁. Anyway ,after sewers when you are at resort area dont go to lighthouse yet. Search area for indian runner place if i remember correctly . Around there are some optional things that affects the ending you will get

The town next to mine in Cheshire, England is called “Middlewich”. -wich is a common suffix for place names in English, deriving from the Anglo-Saxon word for a home or fortress. A protected place. It would be given to trading towns, where goods and knowledge would change hands. Midwich is where the lines of the real world and otherworld first blur, the place where Alessa’s two manifestations of pain and suffering, places based on knowledge that are protected and well guarded, become apparent to no one except Harry: the middle of the wich.

Have you played the European version? I recommend you play it to find the scrapbook in NOWHERE upper floor. You will get a better understanding of the meaning behind the boiler room.

I played the European version but I wasn't aware there was an item missing from other versions. I tried looking it up on the wiki but couldn't find a page for it (probably because I don't know what the item's name is listed as). I think I remember something like that from playing the game many years ago. I'm sure it's in there somewhere, but don't remember what it says.

@@Pystoria that sounds like a mixture of both versions that fans cling to. One version has it that Alessa was set on fire for the ritual itself, and that's what caused the house to burn down. The other version has it that the ritual itself didn't require any fire, but Alessa's psychic power reacting to it caused the boiler to explode, which then caused the fire. I mean I personally think that makes a hell of a lot more sense since why would you ever do a ritual that's gonna burn someone up badly enough to have to recruit a team of doctors to keep her alive either a] in a house made of wood that you live in or b] a far distance away from a hospital you obviously have connections with and could easily procure a fireproof room in. But yeah people still find their reasons to believe the version that says the ritual itself involves setting a person on fire. I just find it a little bit too logistically ridiculous.

You didn't mention anything about the crying in the bathroom or the cards scattered in one of the classrooms. These both hint to Claudia and Alyssa's friendship and how when they would play cards and Alyssa would always win. Claudia would always cry about losing the game.

Great video, you got the symbolism very corretly. But Alessa's mother wasn't the one who burned her. It was an "accident" that happened with the boiler due to Alessa's powers, and there's in game proof. People have the wrong vision of the story because of the misconception of movies, theories and such. The old channel Twin perfect are the ones who properly explained the true story of Silent Hill, sadly not so many people are aware of the key things in the franchise, posting wrong things around on the internet. (Such as, wrong information on wikis)

The boiler room article can be interpreted in many ways - and I, and many others, see it as a cover up rather than what actually happen. Keiichiro Toyama of Team Silent, director of SH1, himself said he believed that Alessa was burned by the cult as part of the ritual.

He didn't give us a proper answer to that on twitter though "I've had a story about it. But it's not official. I can't talk about it." He said he had a unofficial story about Alessa's sacrifice in general, but he couldn't talk about it. But still, what I mentioned it's just my personal opinion as it makes more sense to me, facts are being presented in the games as well.

It's mostly implied - the four teachers in Midwich Elementary are named for the members of a band named Sonic Youth, and the one that K. Gordon is named for is "Kim Gordon". So I think most fans assume Gordon is female for that reason. There's no confirmation in game though.
