VERY interesting. Extremely thought-provoking. That’s a helluva crescendo of a question left as a cliffhanger. Yet it’s also fascinating as we’ve depicted these archetypes throughout human existence. I’m sure you’re familiar but Jordan Peterson often speaks about the archetype of the hero, and it’s parallels into mapping out the format of being the best and bravest we possibly could be (like confronting the metaphorical dragon in our lives, or the thing we are most afraid of but must confront in order to better ourselves). Being a Karl Jung fan while at the same time growing up with silent hill 1-3, I’m assuming the KZbin algorithm is working terrifyingly well. Amazing video

I don't remember who mentioned it, but it's been said that, the reason why God had Alessa's face in Silent Hill 3 was because that's how Claudia imagined God's appearance (which makes sense due to how highly she thought of Alessa, not to mention Alessa's being worshiped by the Order as a saint). Though that doesn't necessarily discount the facing oneself theory.

I know that the journey from the Fool to the World is the only logical path for the story, so it's not too much of a spoiler, but just thoiught I'd share what I thought, can never be too careful with these things for those games are wonderfull experiences Anyways, love you videos! allways exciting to see that notification of upload, thanks for your work, cheers!

Really cool video. I've always found the idea of archetypes fascinating, and if you want to do a further deep dive into this, it actually goes quite far beyond what just the Tarot displays. Archetypes also take the form of abstract symbols, such as the crossed circle (4 seasons, something humans have experienced since the beginning), the eye in the triangle (more than just spooky illuminati stuff, it originally symbolized illumination of the mind's eye, which is more or less how you view the world), and the seed/tree/fruit of life. There are many others that can be considered archetypal, would be awesome to see if they show up in video games such as this.

Nice work, Max. I read tarot and study Jung and I really appreciated this. I did notice the "eye of night" which isn't a tarot card (perhaps they meant "the star"?) But it makes me wonder why they would have chosen those specific cards in the High Arcana. It seems like the Persona team have a little more knowledge of Tarot too.

it's always an interesting question of whether artists are consciously aware of the story they're telling. If you ask any musician, the likely response will be an honest and passionate "It's just what I felt at the time." And I trust that's so much the truth to all art, whether it be writing, painting, music, or any amalgamation. We all know the creators of Silent Hill were well versed in mythologies and symbolism, from many sources, but it's that culmination of information and how they processed it that allowed them to tell this story in this specific way, to us, the viewer/reader/player. Tales of hope, despair, delusion, but seemingly above all else, passion.
@JoshWiniberg Жыл бұрын
Weird how the subconscious works - works of art can be as mysterious to their creator as their audience. I never know what my music is about until months after it's written. I only figure out the track/album names once it's recorded and ready to be released.

ITS not that bad the HD collection I recomend It however It has the basics of the og version including born from a wish. It was never bugged for me. Don't consider the game thrash just for some bad reviews of secondary issues about the game. HD collection Is really good for introducing new people to the saga.

I understand this video is taken from a jungian perspective and one element of tarrot, with that it mind it seems things may have been missed. Douglas and heather both identify him as the fool in the theme park. In his dealing with Claudia, Heather and his son he meets the criteria for that card. Harry's dillema is in line with the dual aspects of the Hanged man, this is detailed in his diary that Heather finds in the church.

I appreciate the analysis, and find tarot card analysis videos even when they touch on the metaphysical still fun. But I am leaving a comment because there is a lot of misinformation about Tarot cards. They never were meant for fortune telling that came a few 100 years after they were created, they were for playing games. They are no more intune with archetypes than Chance cards in monopoly. Also tarot cards, had cards added to it(like the minichiate cards) and cards changed(the ship, the 4 moors, etc) from time to time so its not something that has thought to be set in stone or even all that intentional(from outside of a gameplay perspective). For example the Fool was a card that represented a poor begger, who was meant to be laughed at. (Tarot cards were designed for the upper class, he is depicted as showing his butt afterall) It does not represent a hero, or innocence.

kinda very late to the discussion as I hadn't seen the video until now. I have a lot to add to the topic as I've been studying occult subjects the past few years and Tarot was one of the first I studied and the one I have a deepest grasp on. To make matters short, the archetypal nature of tarot is not a jungian concept in itself, the process of reading tarot boils down to pulling these cards and interpreting their meaning together ( supposedly through some kind of magic or divine guidance). we do not know the origins of it too well but it seems to have been modified and derived from previous card games, what we do know is it had been used as a divination method for at least a century when Jung came around. As to if Persona took inspiration from Silent hill: I don't really see it, maybe a bit from persona 3 onwards in some ambience aspects like the fog in 4. Tarot has been a major symbological resource and central theme in the series since P1 released in 96, And, having played all of the Shin Megami Tensei games excluding 1 and 2, the change from SMT to Persona is merely one of macrocosmos to microcosmos, it is simply a shift from humanity to the individual and from broader philosophical concepts to existencialist ones. I think herein lies the real link in the comparison you made, tarot uses symbologic archetypes to show the different stages one might undergo in their path to enlightment and spiritual completion, wich inherently, lends itself to an exploration of psychology and existencialist concepts.
@NicNico3 жыл бұрын
As a Buddhist, I can firmly say that a concept such as the Universal Mind is not commonly shared among Buddhists, and I think the source shared in this video is spurious at best. The way this concept is discussed in Jungian literature is probably linked to his observations of the Mandala and similar concepts in esoteric Buddhism. But he also interpreted these things via his understanding of alchemy and its adoption of Buddhist philosophy. There are distantly related concepts, but more often than not, they are meant to contrast the Upanishadic Hindu concept of the Braman (the omnipotent cosmic deity that all humans share consciousness with)... maybe I should make a video commentary about this... Anyways, thanks for your content. It is refreshing to see people still dedicating time and thought to Silent Hill and its mysteries. Theoretically, could there be a way to reconcile or at least explain how synchronicity events are derivative from people's tethers to the collective unconscious, if we would be to consider the self unconscious as a the totality (not the sum) of one's subjective inductions synthesized through the logos, or cognitive appreciation and apprehension of events, ever evolving surroundings and decay of oneself ?
