This song is just plain beautiful. A few months ago, I was listening to it in the living room, and my mom entered and started singing it. She recognized the song, because she just loves Elvis. Then she said this version was one of the most beautiful songs that she ever heard, and when I told her it was from Silent Hill, she said it was fitting because all McGlynn's songs for the game are great. My dad thinks the same. Geez, I just love them so much.
@FroggyStyleLove13 жыл бұрын
I love how the way you sing the lyrics and play the melody can change a song so much. This cover with its slow and calm tone seems to be the complete contrast to the original by the petshop boys, which sounds despite the same lyrics much more enegetic and happy.

This song is even more haunting and sad when you consider Shattered Memories' plot. Simply beautiful.

I'm a super hardcore Team Silent fan. I think what they made with Silent Hill 1-3 was sort of "lightning in a bottle." That being said, I actually like Shattered Memories more than Downpour. I don't think Western devs have the moxy needed to make a "traditional" Silent Hill, so I appreciate this game trying to do something different and unique instead of trying to recapture the experience of the first three. I liked the lack of combat in Shattered Memories. It's an interesting diversion from what we Silent Hill fans are used to. Downpour was an admirable attempt, but falls short in so many ways.
@DamienTepps11 жыл бұрын
Look, if you're a fan of the series then you'll love them through thick and thin. Team Silent didn't shit gold, they just set the bar for future iterations. 4 was my favorite, but it was panned by critics and fans alike, even though it was a Team Silent game. Shattered Memories, Origins, Homecoming, and Downpour had great atmosphere, outstanding character development, and an amazing story. What more do you want from a SH game? Even the music was still amazing. Daniel Licht is talented and did the Downpour justice by all accounts. The combat was shit? So was 1-4. That's not what makes a great SH game. This isn't RE. I'm sorry, but people who pine for TeamSilent aren't "fans", they're "purists", and that's just detrimental to a series. I'll remain ever faithful to this series until it becomes a mindless action game like RE.

You're actually one of the few purists who like this game. So I'll give you kudos for that.

I liked the open exploration of downpour. The story was decent. The combat was the best in the series. What lacked in my opinion, was the monster design - they were all humanoid; no aberrations.

SM is not a remake, nor a reboot. It's a hard boiled reinterpretation that brings back the old characters and the town and place them in different roles, twisting that universe you were once familiar with. That's why is called Silent Hill; it wouldn't work any other way. The whole point of the game is to present a "what if" alternative. What if the cult, Alessa, or the creatures never existed. What if it was all the product of a young girl's mind, idealizing a father she subconsciously despise. What if the Harry Mason you met wasn't the hero you cherished, but a facade. I'm glad Climax Studios took the risk and made this game, even if they knew not many people would appreciate it. The ending is somewhat symbolic; even though one more game came out two years after (Downpour), we were witnessing the end of a series that had no more stories to tell.

it is, its that little dark place you go to when something bad happens, the deepest darkest pit of your heart that no one can reach. a moment of spiraling depression that you cant escape, you can never escape. your always trapped in it. but at the same time it helps you realize things. it helps you realize that your alone in the world and that you shouldn't depend on anyone anymore. its that dark feeling when someone you love dies on you, someone very close.... that is (my) silent hill....

Hey juniorxx2! I just did some research and this is what I found out. Brenda Lee released this song in June 1972, that's the first EVER release. Elvis recorded his version in March '72 but it wasn't released until November '72. This means that he hadn't heard another version of it when he recorded it. And maybe Brenda actually recorded it AFTER him, just released it BEFORE him. I haven't found out when she recorded it ;)

@DravenAmoure: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is the singer, while the credits for the melody itself goes to Akira Yamaoka. Both of them had been working together to create some of the songs heard in many Silent Hill titles since Silent Hill 3 (Which first introduced McGlynn in the soudntrack), whilst Akira has been performing the soundtrack of the whole series since the first game. (Excluding the upcoming Silent Hill Downpour, he left Konami a few months ago)

It is real. It's any place you've been in the past. It's in your head, it's in your dreams. It's in you, and it's terrifying. It's what you have done and what you neglected to do. It's all of your guilt and all of your misdeeds as well as all the misdeeds performed on you coming back to haunt you. It's every memory you've ever tried to forget, every lifestyle you've ever tried to escape, every dirty piece of laundry you've tried to bury and every bridge you've tried to burn. Silent Hill is real.

i love the re-imagination of the story line! at first harry is looking for his daughter in a snow storm in the all-famous "silent hill" but in reality Cheryl is just in therapy remembering all of this while harry literally goes through hell to find her just to end up in another reality like if you want silent hill to be brought back! It's not exactly a remake. Harry Mason talks about his experience from SH1 to a shrink which means it's set after SH1 and before SH3. The unique thing about this Silent Hill game is that each playthrough is a different experience. Your choices change the story, characters and enviroments. It could be something as simple as what you choose to examine, it's really an awesome game!

I hate to tell you but this game was not a "remake" of the first one it was a reimagining. Taking everything but the actual plot and putting a twist on it. I actually hope that this spins off into it's own spinoff of the series as at first the game was frustrating but it truely encompasses all of what SH is about. The exploration, the panic, the fear the helplessness, the solitude and the mindfuck that no other franchise can turn out like SH can.

I've..I suppose, always been on the more "depressed" side of life for as long as I can remember. I had the best girlfriend I could ever ask for, who was always there to cheer me up and was beautiful and had a good sense of humor. I would always try my hardest to do the same for her, but it still seemed as though something was missing from me, as though I was neglecting her. She was killed a few days ago... I love this song to bits, but hearing it brings tears to my eyes as I think of her..
