My great-grandfather had the misfortune of being on the receiving end of an attack like that at 24:54, he was on 23,000t troop transport, the Strathallan in December 1942 in the Med, when it was torpedoed by U-562, he told a local newspaper - "I went overboard from the upper deck of the liner and scrambled into a lifeboat. After drifting about for nine hours I was picked up by a destroyer and landed at a port. Here I met Jack Arguile, who had been taken off by another destroyer. When the ship was hit there was slight confusion but immediately emergency lights went on and we were able to make our way to the boat stations. Those not able to get into a lifeboat were picked up from rafts by other ships. The Strathallan then caught fire, blew up, and sank after being towed for some distance."

Strathallan was a ship of 23,722. That was the greatest, and last victory for Kapitänleutnant Horst Hamm, captain of U-562. He did not get to enjoy that for long. Only two months later, British destroyers and one Wellington aircraft killed him (only at the age of 26) and his whole crew.

To add to my prior suggestion, you need to change the torpedo depth setting (which you did), but you ALSO need to change the AOB (angle on the bow) in addition to the distance setting as mentioned below. As mentioned below, I would have the speed, then do my readings for the main (closer) target. Then when I had everything pretty well set for the main target, go to the secondary target. Leave the Speed as it is, then change the torpedo depth setting, AOB and run the distance with the periscope 'height of mast' parallax 'thing' and put it into the computer. Fire at the secondary target, then switch back to the main target, and reset torpedo depth setting, AOB and distance. AND since you knew all these entries from before, that should be easy. And since this target is much closer, being a bit 'off' is not a problem. Love the series.

I think the aob was a bit off for the light cruiser,maybe thats why the torpedo missed or they just didnt hit at the same time and he got alerted and begun evading maneuvers or it wad just a dud,who knows...It's a bit risky to hit multiple targets using magnetic detonators.One premature detonation and all the torps miss their targets.The most important is you got the big prize and escaped your angry pursuers.

You missed the Cruiser because you did NOT enter the correct DISTANCE. You put in the distance for the Liner, and left the same setting when you fired at the Cruiser first. Remember that the computer will arrange for the torpedo to cross the path of the target when it expects the target to arrive. While you aimed the periscope at the Cruiser, you gave it the wrong distance (of the Liner). The Cruiser was at least an extra half km or more away, so the angle would have been wrong and the torpedo would have crossed its path before it even arrived at the intersection point. Easy for me to say, since you are under a lot of time pressure during a multiple attack like this. Still, remember in future when dealing with multiple targets sailing in a line, that the distance to each is important, and must be entered correctly. You can always measure the closer one in advance, so you know it. Then set up the longer shot, and take a new distance measurement. Fire with the newly measured distance, then swing to the closer target, and reset to the previously measured distance. Love the series.

When I come across a 24,000to liner in SH3 (the old, unmodded version) I try to hit the ship under the bow. One hit short before the bridge will cause a secondary explosion (Lusitania-like) and result in sinking it in 2-3 minutes.

6:29 ...why are you using the radio ? ...the game AI will send on you every enemy able to destroy you immediately...I learn this by the hardway in the Sankt George Channel back in winter of '39 when after obliterating a convoy, out of torpedoes I found the smartest thing to is to send a patrol report to BdU . ...within 3 hour i have a single destroyer on me and my carrier ended suddenly on the bottom of the channel...😂😂😂
