I absolutely LOVE the constant chair switches and purposeful cuts on every note. 💯
@Subcontrabassoon2 жыл бұрын
One thing I've learned is that if you make even the slightest effort at being consistent, you get accused of trying to misrepresent what the current prototype is capable of. So, jump cuts serve the dual function of being both easy and honest.

I'm loving the way the instrument is coming along!! I can't wait to see it in a few years when it's performing alongside bands and orchestras!!

You mean in a few weeks? :)
@Subcontrabassoon2 жыл бұрын
Yep; Bret's right. The orchestral premiere will happen on January 7th, 2023. We're using it instead of a 2nd contrabassoon for Gorecki 3.

Only tattoo I would ever consider getting is this or the 15mb bass clef

Really striking to me how much the upper range of the subcontrabassoon resembles bass sax in tone - reminds me a little of how the altissimo of Guntram Wolf's contraforte really sounds like tenor or alto sax.

I would love to hear this instrument blend with a low wind section. The color would be interesting and awesome for sure.

As long as you're missing the key mechanisms, would you please do these with funny different outfits for each pitch? Costume changes between each recording pass for different pitches isn't too much to ask, and it would be hilarious. If you can't avoid it, you may as well exploit it!

Looks like it is necessary to set up each note before recording it?
@Subcontrabassoon2 жыл бұрын
Yes; the MK2 is an intonation test and won't get keywork. I'm working on the MK3 now, which will have keywork.

@@Subcontrabassoon Looking forward to seeing and hearing that one. I guess developing a new instrument requires several prototype iterations, that we generally don't get to see/hear about.
