Great video, very informative. Especially putting the different scenarios and needs in relation. Thanks a lot for that! Silent 62 , 3 Deck open, front exit is what I^d always go for. Kind regards

La Vagabond has offered their "professional opinion" on something that is outside of their profession. Sometimes people need to recognize when they're outside of their lane. Thanks for setting these things straight...

I had seen Vagabonde’s video when it was first posted (I subscribe to their channel). I appreciate your clarifying comments. Well done.

all these mistakes drove me crazy when I watched the original vid, so good to see the record set straight.

Silent 55 is now only used for charters, Silent 60 has 26 kW capacity, I like those yachts, if I ever had a spare change I would buy myself one and then charter it when I wasn't using it

Note on the propeller: has anyone done any efficiency tests using Sharrow propellers on a Silent Yacht? I'm curious if the design could eak out an extra knot or two using the same power draw.

The new upgraded drive train uses carbon fiber props, which are a fraction of the weight and has improved the overall efficiency by roughly 15%. Each blade can also be removed individually in the water, so repairs and servicing is significantly quicker, easier, and less $… 🤯

From my understanding Sharrows' are most efficient at an RPM range higher than we typically operate. They're also manufactured out of stainless steel or bronze, so the weight on the end of the shaft and cutlass bearing, creates a lot of resistance on the motor. Would be an interesting test though.

it would be great to get them back on a newer model. Or silent-yachts needs to find a better video creator. There are several other creators having reviews. The silent-yacht videos are generally very short in length as well as good content. I still LOVE these yachts and thanks for the videos. I think you were more defensive than needed. They had a party experience for a week over their normal minimalistic lifestyle.

The East Coast of the US has one huge advantage over the Mediterranian. The East (and Southern, aka Carribean) Coast of the USE has the Intra-Coastal Waterway (ICW). It basically a series of barrier islands and some interior waterways tha parallel most of the coastline. If the winds are expected to pick up, you may dash into the ICW where there would be less wind and smoother waters and still continue north or south.

So an entirely speculative question regarding the drivetrain - and granted it would be an engineering challenge but - If you were to install the motors on the outside of the hull with the propellor directly mounted to them would that significantly improve the efficiency? Eliminating the shaft, having the thrust parallel to the hull and maybe even introducing duoprops all seem to have potential in my limited understanding.

Does Silent Yachts have any plans to go smaller, like a 40?

Wonder if they have any plans to implement a hydrogen cell which could eliminate need for a generator?

Nearly 1m views on that video …..”all publicity is good publicity” I own 2 teslas 5 and 6 yrs old, still great cars ..but newer models drivetrain, batteries & efficiency are always improving…. and so it will in the boating world! Question..Sunreef eco has flex solar panels on the hull ..has Silent considered this and are they as efficient as they claim? Looking forward to Silent sea trial in George Town early Feb.

What’s the air draft or bridge clearance on the Silent 55 & 60? Anybody know? For any who might wonder why it matters - Chicago. I have looked. I’m not seeing that spec listed in any of Silent’s published data, & everybody else is parroting Silent, aka repeating Silent’s marketing without noticing missing specs that _might_ be relevant to anyone around Chicago, or Paris, or just about any other inland/urban environment that the 55 or 60 would be well suited to.

Correction (I think) to your correction about the thrusters. Elena has her fingers on the thrusters and says it's the helm, and you correct her saying they're actually the bow and stern thrusters... BUT... isn't it more accurate to call them the Port and Starboard thrusters since there's actually one in each hull, and they aren't forward or aft, they're right in the middle of each hull, so technically they're both midship thrusters. Feel free to correct me if my correction was incorrect. ;-)
@thesilentyachtsguy2 жыл бұрын
David, thanks for your interest. The thrusters are located fore and aft, rather than midships. The bow thruster is a tunnel type, and the stern thruster lowers from the aft of the hull when in use, then retracts back into the hull when disengage. Thus eliminating any drag. Placing them at the bow and stern allows for greater maneuverability and control of the yacht at docking (low) speeds. I hope this correction of the correction of the correction, helps. 😂

@@thesilentyachtsguy It sure does help. I was dead certain that those thrusters were midship, I wonder where that idea got stuck in my head.

Well.... Your hands tapping on the desk make a very annoying experience. To avoid inaccurate description on electric specs and performance, I would suggest to brief the captain...
