The embossing mat is hard to find anywhere to purchase!!! I want to upgrade my machine and this is a KEY feature... but I'm not going to spend $$$ on the new machine and all the new blades, including heat and emboss tools that I will need if I can't get the supplies needed!

Can you use the tools with the foil transfer sheets? The item description says for curio 2 but since the "blade" is the same shouldn't it work with the cameo 5 too?

The Embossing tools can be used in either the Cameo 5 or Curio 2. This video shows a demo with the Cameo 5. You could definitely try the embossing tools with the Silhouette foil transfer, or there is the new heat pen for heat reactive foils that works in the Cameo 5 or Curio 2 as well.

Are there any eta's on when instructions on using the embossing mat and tool and what settings to use will be available for a Silhouette user (with new Cameo 5)? I bought the Cameo 5 and want to do embossing but am unsure how to do it with few instructions I have found on the web. I have the tools and the mat.

I have reported orientation issues with the Cameo 5 and emboss mat. I won't be making a tutorial until those are fixed and a user won't ruin their mat on the first go..... I want you to be successful. You can still try it and test... I'd just recommend using a full 12"x12" sheet of cardstock as it may not emboss where you see on the screen. There is no ETA on those software fixes, but once it is fixed, I'll have more information out. I reported it and now just wait and remind them every so often.

Does the cut show through the other side? Is it visible at all, even on the front side?

It does not cut through but the emboss can be seem on both sides. You do not want to cut through on an embossing mat or you will ruin the mat.

I'm just curious why doesn't the embossing tool work with the portrait 4? Just curious.

The Portrait 4 only has 1 tool housing. The Cameo 5 and Curio 2 have 2 tool housings. Carriage 1 is an up and down motor and Carriage 2 is a round and round motor. The Portrait 4 tool housing is an up and down motor, like Carriage 1 on the Cameo 5 & Curio 2. The embossing tools go in the Carriage 2 housing on the Cameo 5 and Curio 2, not carriage 1.

So, I am a little confused. I just want to buy the Cameo 5( I have a Portrait) for the embossing capability, but I can't find the right embossing tool. You say that the type B is suitable , but I can't find it. What other tool can be used for embossing on Cameo 5?

Yes. It is the same as all other Silhouette models.

@SammieCrafts yes. Select Emboss paper as the material and the print and emboss is found under the new Specialty tools panel on the right. Settings can vary for materials and the presets are just a starting point to test with.

You will want to wait and buy from a local retailer so you get the right power cord for the machine.

Thanks for your answer, on the back of the ac adapter it indicates the input voltage range, normally 100-240v. Could you see what the one on the cameo 5 ac adapter says?

@@unpanaenmoto it is the same, but like the OP said, ours comes with a USA plug end - yours may be that Euro dual prong end? The cord does come apart like my Cameo 4 did, so if that is what your current one does, then the Cameo 5 will as well (if you purchase from the correct retailer - or swap over the cord end) ..

Hi. I just got my embossing tool for the Cameo 5. I can't get it to "emboss". I put it in tool holder 2 correct? It detects it, but then says to select a material that is compatible. If I select cardstock, it only lets me "sketch". I am trying to emboss without an embossing mat. Is that my problem? Can it detect that I am using a regular mat? What I'm trying to use it for is to make score lines that are solid. I also would like to emboss, but I was hoping to try it without the embossing mat. I realize it would not be as deep an emboss. Can you use the embossing mat if you then want to cut around your embossing? Also, can you emboss without having it cut a line first? Thanks again for your help!

You will most likely need to set up a custom setting using the Embossing tool, like I did in this video on the heat pen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3aycql8d7p0fc0 The Emboss tool is not designed to work without the embossing mat. It does not know you whether you are using one or not, but it will affect your results and you most likely will not get the same emboss. The way the embossing tool is designed, it first cuts a shallow line in the material and then embosses on top of that line. However, you do not want to cut completely through on the embossing mat as it will just tear it up. You would cut the object to size first or after embossing, but not cut on the embossing mat.

@@SilhouetteSecrets So do you need to have the cutting tool in the 1st cartridge (for a light cut) and then embossing tool in cartridge 2 when loading? so if you don't have a custom setting created yet, can you use the "score" action? also where do you create the custom setting?

There was no Cameo 5 Pro announced and the Cameo 4 Pro is still in production. The Cameo 5 Plus can utilize the embossing mat and the electrostatic bed. It will use the same one as the regular Cameo 5 model. It is a 12" x 12" space. No larger sizes were announced. You would need to check with your location Silhouette retailers in France for a release date as all countries vary.
