Your 2 beginner tutorials have been an amazing help..! I have a question, once I type a word or letter, and if I don't weld it right away & do the cutting in that order... It won't weld for me or when I try to do any cuts, it leaves a "U like" line connecting the two ends, in which I'm assuming will effect my cut. I hope I'm explaining it clear enough to help describe my issue. What's your advice when I have to go back to a project saved or word, in which I may resolve this minor issues, besides having to re-do or re-type the word from scratch?

Thank you so much for the newbie videos, I take notes and it really helps when I am trying to figure something out. The one problem I have is when I fill in the text to see it better and then try to draw a box around it to cut, the box is the same font color and I can't see my text anymore? What am I doing wrong

Sounds like you need to right click on the box and "send it to the back" so your words stay in front. Or better yet, change the amount of white you see on your cutting mat screen to omit you needing an additional box.

Laura, I bought the program few days ago and started playing with the program today. I meant the knife tool in the program, not the physical blade. Sorry for the confusion. When I try to make a small cut in the letter, it cuts out a thick red piece, not thin line like in your video.The thick red line has numbers though, but I have no idea where to change the thickness of the knife tool. My Business edition looks a bit different. I have checked everywhere and the only place I found two option for knife tool was in Edit --> Preferences --> Tools --> When Using Eraser or Knife --> there are two options there: Maintain thick lines as lines and Convert thick lines to polygons. No other options for knife tool size. :-/ Thank you!

Well it is Dec 2016, and I did just get a new cameo 2, and I appreciate your newbie videos. My question is about the silhouette store. When you bring your design onto your mat in Silhouette studio, is the design the size it is supposed to be cut at ? or do you decide after its brought in what size to make it ? for example cards, aren't they designed a certain size. When I hit weld to weld my monogram letters together, all the little lines didnt go away like yours did. And so when I ungrouped the indivual letters it took pieces from the other letters when i moved them apart. I dont get what I did wrong.

@@littlelightsbylaura Thanks for the response. I can't seem to move things from the background to the foreground. I've tried to cut one divider from the background and move it to the cutting mat but it doesn't show a tabbed divider, it just shows the outline box. When I try to click and send it over to cut, it disappears. I know I'm missing a tiny step and once I figure it out, it'll all make sense but I'm just so utterly confused right now. I even upgraded to the Designer Edition, thinking it might help...but it didn't. I bought the file from Silhouette so I know it's compatible so it has to be a little step I'm missing. I love your videos. They are so easy to understand and they make sense. I really like how you explain what you are clicking on and why. I'm working off a laptop at home and knowing to hold 'shift' or 'control' makes all the difference in the world. I'll try taking a screen shot with my phone when I get back to my machine and I'll upload it. Maybe that'll help you see what I'm trying to explain. Thanks again for the help!

I am BRAND new at the silhouette cameo! and came across your videos. Quick question-- I've actually figured out how to make a monogram (whole reason I bought the thing woot wooooor!)-- now when I try to save it, I can only save it to a separate document so that when I want to open it up in my design studio I have to completely close out design studio to search for it in my computer. How do I just save it to my design studio library?

When I save my files I just hit ctrl +s and it saves it on my computer where I have a silhouette folder. I'm definitely no expert so I'm not sure it that will help you 😔

Heather Fox honestly the biggest trick is making your decal smaller than the space you have and also, cut your transfer tape as close to your decal as possible so that you're able to apply it without wrinkles.

When I type out a saying and go to the save icon then make a new one , I go into my library and click on it it shows one design over the other and I have to click the undo icon to get rid of some of it so I can get back to the original sYing( it layers one saying on top of the other) I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong as I'm new to this, it must be something I do when saving it?????

I am seriously thinking of getting one of these for christmas this year. Just so scared about using it and using it right. I am thinking about getting a chrome book or cheaper laptop to use with the cameo only. I would not use for anything else but to take with me on retreats for scrapbooking only. So I would connect it with my new cameo3 and down load every- thing to do with cameo. Probably connect a printer with it too. What are your thoughts about that? I have a circuit now but I am tired of hauling cartridges and the books with it when I go to my retreat with the women. Also I have already lost one cartridge and 2 others got messed up. Thats like $60 bucks down the drain. I want to be able to use fonts from my computer along with photos I find on google. What are your thoughts?

Tim Laws sure!! Super easy, you’ll want to decide on a font and size of the decal. Design it however you want it to look in your software. Then all you’ll need is to choose some oracle 651 vinyl. Load it on your cutting mat and cut it out. From there, you’ll use transfer tape to remove it and apply it to Nanas car. If this sounds overwhelming I’ll gladly do a whole video from design to install. Just let me know.

Can I ask you what is going wrong for me I'm having so much trouble with cutting I cut a very fine cut 12x12 and I have set my blade on 7 the speed on 4 and thickness on 33 with a double cut and it still won't cut my Kaisercraft smooth card stock the crazy thing is the cut before equally as fine same settings and card stock worked fine , every time I have to cut I'm getting so much waste getting so frustrated with it 😩😩😩😩😩

+Linda Cain I would reccomend you use the silhouette settings for the vinyl. Also, maybe offset your lettering a tiny bit to make them thinker. I typically do no use double cut for that reason. Finally, if you were to unscrew the tiny white cap on your blade, you may find there is something stuck under there that is messing up your cut.

Jenelle Pierce I have a windows computer so this is how I download them. Once you download the fonts they will be in a compressed zipped file. Go to wherever you saved the files and open the folder, you will then see two files for the font. One says "Open Type font file" and the other says "True Type font file". You will select the True type font file. Once you open the file you will be given the option to either print or install. Select install. If you have your Silhouette studio open, close it and re-open it so that the new fonts will appear. Hope this helps.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the letters together. I am using a bubble gum font from dafont. I tried welding but it makes it where you cant see what some of the letters are. I am doing CLOVERBUDS. and the o is replaced with the 4h 4 leaf clover. I have them overlapping. I have no clue what to search for to figure out how to do it. Thanks!

amanda tate did you try and use weld with just a tiny bit of each letter overlapping? Also on the o,a,e anything with an open space, make sure you select everything in the letter, make that letter it's own compound path first before welding. Does that make sense?

I've gone through all the settings but I can't fix this. My Silhouette starts cutting almost 3 squares in to my mat. I line it up with the marks on the machine, I messed around with the page settings, registration marks, etc. Nothing helps. How do you line it up correctly?
