Thanks for putting these long form interviews up, the produced episodes were very good but I wanted to hear more from the people themselves.

It was always my intention to put up long-form videos. It just took time that's all. I am glad you like the more produced episodes. They were a huge amount of work.

Thanks for sharing this interview, subsequent enthusiast generations appear to have become increasingly focused on end use, adaptability and hacking products more than the base design and development.

There's only one problem with this conversation... 12:42. Here's a man with an amazing story to tell but it wasn't going to happen in such a short time! I would have loved to hear more about circuit design, the good, the bad and the ugly. I'm sure that he had a favorite circuit and an even better story behind it... You really need to do a follow-up video and ask a lot more questions and not just Leo but everyone else... This really is a very unique video series in the world! But it's too bloody short...

You know, sorta felt like a history lesson but more importantly i feel like its sorta idea of where careers and career paths can go. Do wish it was longer, can we get a raw unedited interview as well. Else good job 👍

I'm sad to watch the decline of Silicon Chip in the last few years.. Their attempts to DRM the magazines in digital form(Come on! People who will buy it will buy it, people who pirate will pirate!) but what lost me was having to pay to download code/boards from their site /when I own the physical magazine/.. I can no longer update or repair previous projects that I brought the kit and own the magazine because 'Download the firmware? Sure! $3'.. And not when there are so many other really good projects out there on the internet..

I don't care. Half of their stuff wasn't designed very well anyway and they're probably copies from other magazines overseas. Like, grab a circuit from Elektor and change it a bit hoping that nobody would notice. I even spot a few mistakes here and there. You'd think they'd be smarter than that but they're not. They don't even give credit to the people who correct their mistakes.

They're all in it together, a very small team of electronic enthusiasts who all know each other for decades. Dick Smith, Jim Rowe, Leo Simpson, Electronics Australia technical team, all know each other. Staff went from Dick Smith to Electronics Australia to Silicon Chip. They're all the same. EA was just Silicon Chip plus another magazine showcasing the latest in technological developments. If you get in a younger guy who did not have the opportunity to work with a small team of older enthusiasts, a team which was all the recognised talent that Australia ever had, then expect the end of electronics in Australia as we once knew it.

....that magazine "talking electronics" was excellent and out of the blue . it however was born towards the end of the hobbyist/experimenter era . I contended at the time that Australia had the best electronic hobbyist magazines in the English speaking world . For a period from mid fifties to mid seventies the American magazines had been also pretty good . England had practical electronics , it was okay .

.....federal publishing were obviously a bunch of shysters at the ending of Electronics Australia. After three decades I decided to subscribe and received only glossy useless trash that was in no way Electronic Australia quality for next 12 months or less until it died and was assimilated by silicone cheap . How is silicone cheap hands on? ..they present construction articles with predesigned circuit boards for which the only skills required are assembly and soldering . Explanations for the working of the circuits became formulaic and brief compared to a generation earlier for EA and of course EA also had become formulaic and brief in their explanations. The Magazines moved from hobbyist/enthusiast/experimenter to consumerist . .I suspect there are some very good Russian language hobbyist electronic magazines still.
