The most frustrating quality with these is it feels like a hollow rubber. If you tap it too lightly, or in the wrong spot of a ‘key’, you might not get a sound. But if you make sure to tap it properly, you’ll occasionally (frequently) get double inputs and sound terrible. Not good for sounds with a fast attack. Decent for harmony with pads, maybe strings etc. Sometimes I just set something heavy on the sustain pedal and use it for a drone haha (wouldn’t recommend this with their built in sounds)

For a concert hall pianist a roll piano it's not good enough for practice into the hotelroom. I agree. But for a songwriter the 88keys roll up piano and a better sustain pedal will be good enough to hang around in nature or other inspiring environments to try out musical ideas and record them instantly. This roll up piano is made definitively for this second group and not for the first group.

What is the difference both are junk. I want one with hammer action feel. But for the most part an upright piano from the 1900 or so will build more technique than these so called electric pianos. That roll up keyboard is good for theory class, then you can use a regular class room instead of tying up the piano or choir room for theory classes. Oh I forgot that class rooms don't have chalk boards anymore everything is power point or dry eraser boards. You will need staffs or staves (what ever school you come from) to write chord progressions.
@8bitwiz_4 жыл бұрын
Ron B - "I want one with hammer action feel." That's where the real cost is, making a GOOD key bed. One that doesn't use strips of little black rubber dots that can go bad, has touch/velocity support, and that mechanical feel, which you won't get without some actual mechanicals behind it. Oh, and a pedal that doesn't sound like a click track. While most electronic keyboards with a MIDI-out are vastly better than these fruit roll-ups, very few have a top-quality key bed without a top-quality price. But at least MIDI means you can get a good keyboard that's just a keyboard, and let something else make the sounds.

For a start, they are not that badly off. We hope over the next couple of years they can make the roll up piano a competitive product in solving a number of problems for both students, teachers and performers.

@emeraldfraser52235 жыл бұрын
Estefanía Rodríguez it was a gift, wouldn’t have been my first choice, but if you’re really unsure whether keyboard/piano is right for you, it doesn’t hurt to try it (as they can be REALLY cheap). My main issues is that the keys were too sensitive and not sensitive enough most of the time, and it had no weighting/weight reaction. I really only messed about on it learning greensleeves and things like that, it’s more of a toy than an instrument. However again, if you really don’t know whether you’d like to learn piano or not, it’s not a bad purchase, just not as practical as the portable element might make it seem 😅

I think it's a FANTASTIC option for parents who are considering purchasing a piano for their child. It's a whole lot cheaper than trying to purchase a REAL piano - THAT'S for sure. You know children go through all kinds of phases in their lives. Most drop out of piano lessons early on as well. So to me, this would be a great option for a parent to purchase.

Update to my previous comment: Finally received it and its the same one as the one at the start of the video and it is not that bad as you think atleast not the one i got with 88 keys from wish and I tested it with Magix music maker. Not tested with FL studio because i don't have that one. Also tested it with Synthesia. First it came uncharged, I can confirm that you it turns green once recharged and I recommend recharging it first which I didn't do at first. So first I started to test the keys and it goes very loud. The buttons are confusing so I haven't figured those out yet but I discoverd how to edit the volume. I also can confirm that it doesn't need Midi cables because it doesn't has those big midi ports and you also don't need a seperate midi port station thing. That USB is actually a midi cable itself. Not only is the USB used to charge it up, its also a midi cable so that it turns into a midi instrument within a DAW program. If you press the volume button and either + or - at the same time it goes the the volume menu, keep pressing - to completely mute it if its connected to a daw program so that you won't hear the music double. If its not full recharged it and you are not active in a while with it, it automicly turns off and resets the volume again. I plugged it on my laptop and it actually recognizes the instrument. Then downloaded synthesia and for some reason synthesia will recognize it but for some reason that app will not let it play and thats the app its fault so avoid synthesia for this roll up keyboard/piano. If you have magix music maker no matter what edition you are in luck. When you go to the settings in magix music maker it actually recognizes the keyboard when you go to audio/midi however the virtual keyboard on it will not play at first when you try to use that roll up piano for it. You disconnect and re-connect again and see if magix still detects it. Make sure that the keyboard/piano is also on. It should recognize it, if you already added other keyboards to magix and this one is connected it should be on the list can't remember the name because it tried it on a friend his computer and i forgot how it was called so before trying it on your DAW, you first go to your pc itself and check the name of it, it should be connected with all the other stuff you plugged into your pc. When you close magix and restart magix it should work. You will then notice that you will hear the sound twice. On you laptop/pc and on the keyboard itself. This can be fixed. You just need to turn off the volume of the roll up piano itself. Go to the buttons of the roll up piano and press the volume button and either + or - at the same time so that it directs you to the volume menu. Now keep pushing - a few times until it goes to 000, then don't touch the buttons on the speaker itself anymore because you can now play the roll up piano through magix music maker without hearing the tones double. Make sure that the piano never turns off so once in a while check if its fully charged and now can enjoy playing the virtual keyboard on magix while playing on the roll up piano. This will also make it easier now to create music because you don't need to use the keys on your pc keyboard anymore. If you don't use a DAW, you can still practice on the piano by connecting it to a USB port and just experiment with it. I also discovered that it can remember some of the tones that you played earlier and it also has a tutorial thing on it that I don't fully understand yet. The flat buttons are satisfying to me but you need to get used to it, it will take some time. Its defently better than those keyboards that childeren used to have. I used to own a keyboard on batteries for childeren when I was younger which didn't have 88 keys and that made me used to piano keys but this roll up piano defently sounds better then those cheap keyboards for childeren. The reason I bought it was for Magix music maker.

When manufacturers make keyboards they normally use Octave modules per board. In other words, inside the keyboard it is divided up into separate octave boards. I think it would be a relatively easy conversion to take almost any midi controller keyboard and cut the case and divide the octave boards, reattaching the boards with a plug cable, and secure the case components with some 3D printed parts, or maybe a hinge. Upon searching, I found a few modular designs, however I think the conversion process for a MIDI controller would be quite trivial provided you know a little bit of CAD, 3D Printing and electronics.

I'm now so glad I bought a good keyboard instead of going for the 'cheap' option to learn. I would have ditched it I think if I had one.

Thank you. I've been debating on getting one. I figured that would be the case. I don't need it. This video helped me alot.

It would be useful if it has midi in rather than midi out.

Tim Topham for fun I guess, just to experiment just with the different sound plus it could be a SUPER (decent) portable midi controller

With all the advancements in weighed, hammer-action digital pianos, it seems like a logical next step to make the next generation of them table-top portable and hotel-room friendly, especially since in the ads, they seem so fun and expressive. ...so no dynamic control, notes which cut off super-quickly, notes which mysteriously repeat, tinny overall sound, and an annoying, clicky sustain pedal. So much for wowing my office mates with an impromptu "jingle Bells" improv at the office Christmas party. :) Very useful review. I'm glad I stumbled into this.

4:30 even your cat was protesting when you played Chopin :-). But just for fiddling around with your softwaresynths on a laptop I still is better then using the computerkeyboard.

in case you wanted to know the glitching is probably from not keeping the note pressed, as a piano player you would be used to lossen the fingers after the "press down" with just enough pressure to keep the note from muting i would think, this "semipressed" pressure wil cause it to jump back to "no sound input" but very close to "sound input" (from the computers perspective XD ) but electicity can sometimes jump through air and play the note again or you can press it by accident since your already so close to playing it, so try it wilst pressing down hard and keep the fingers presses till the note needs to stop. I think that should work. let me know if it did.
