Hi Tiffinie! I have used the EZ Screen make your own, and love it. I will say, if you want fine detail, spring for the higher resolution kit. I've used the screens over and over, and they keep on going as long as you take care of them. I keep a yogurt cup with clean water and when I finish with a silk screen I drop it in the water until I'm done working and can wash it off. I use Paula McCoy's Color Concentrates, so I use the medium to thicken them, because they WILL bleed if I don't. And I agree with you on the porcelain. I love the white, the true showing of the colors, and the translucency. Good idea with the boards. I bet my plaster batts would work perfectly for that! Good luck with your surgery!

Wow Im so sorry about your knee, it must be so hard to have to face all that again and potentially even harder. You are always so upbeat even in the face of this. Such an inspiration! Thank you for all your kind words, Tegan. They mean a lot. I'm an upbeat person generally, but facing another, harder surgery has been tough. Another great video. I use screens from Small Dog Prints, much easier to use than other brands I've tried and can get amazing detail. Silk screens are so addictive though, I'm a little obsessed. I've even made my own using my Cricut, iron on vinyl and silk screen fabric :)

Tiffinie, the time you take to provide these very informative and instructional videos is very much appreciated. I myself am a Precious Metal Clay Artist however I have been trying my hand at what I call the 'Big Clay' lately, as it is certainly more economical than the PMC. Although not new to the clay medium, ceramic clay is certainly a different animal so what I have been learning from your videos has been very helpful for me and I certainly love your vibe! Thank you! Have been doing some hand build projects and sculpting projects for only about 6 months to see if I can transition my skillset from PMC to this larger clay medium. (I am finding the costs for PMC getting a bit too expensive.) I know I have a lot yet to learn especially with regards to the firing process. (Outsourcing kiln services right now.) I had a thought though when I saw your video here. Considering its smaller size I am thinking maybe I could do some very small batches in my small kiln here. (I have a Evenheat Set Pro Kiln that I have used for my metal clay projects for years.) My question (finally), what would the firing process look like for these ornaments? I am wondering if maybe my kiln here might be hot enough. I believe it fires up to 2000 degrees fahrenheit or so. And second question is regarding the thickness of the porcelain clay - you did mention the final product is quite thin but I don't believe you mentioned the actual thickness you rolled your clay out to. That's wonderful. Clay is such a vast world. I rolled the clay out to 1/4 inch. As for you kiln, I don't know anything about your type of kiln, but if it doesn't get to temp, you could always make ornaments or small things in low fire clay.

Wow, I did silkscreen on paper when I was in high school many moons ago. I was given a bunch of squeegees but nothing else so I haven’t made any silkscreens. I’ll have to get the kit ‘cause it looks fun. Thanks for the inspiration. I’m so glad I saw this as it gives me time this afternoon to prepare for a fun event tomorrow. Hope to see you Tuesday.

Hi, thank you for another of your amazing tutorials! If I’m seeing it correctly, it seems the end product after firing is glossy. So you applied underglaze to porcelain, but did you also applied clear glaze over it before firing? or is it that the porcelain has a natual glossy finish after fired?

I wash them with warm water then lay between paper towels to dry. I store them back in the plastic they came in and then put them in a drawer where it's dark.

Tiffinie, I hope your surgery went well and your recuperation is not too difficult. I just wanted to clarify the steps after the under glaze application. After they are dried do you do the clear coat dip before firing? Or are they fired first, then clear coat dipped and then refired?

I wouldn't use glazes as they flux. I have used Stroke and Coats. Any underglaze works. I didn't thicken mine, I just used the thicker parts of my underglaze.

Looks Wonderfull! I see you are also using speedball. Is yours clumpy too. And thick? Even with extra water the clumps are hard to get rid of. Do you have a solution? Take care, Ellen from the Netherlands

Yes, that's always a problem I've found with Speedball. I add water and mix them really well, and that seems to help. I prefer the Amaco velvets, just not the price of them.

They probably won't since it's problematic. But yes, I fire it just fine with everything else. Sometimes I have 4 different clays in the kiln at the same time.
