If no one has said it yet...YOU ARE AMAZING!!! I love this and got a sick feeling regarding the boiling of the worms!! How awful and wasteful. It's so frustrating as an old school farmers granddaughter it's sad to see how the mindset regarding ecology and pumping nature for all that is "valuable" but returning nothing back makes no sense. I know you are "hobbying" but thank you for showing this...it's so interesting and inspiring!

We're already one with the nature and if it turns out bad we're the one who suffers. Earth might dries up but eventually life begins again somewhere. We're take what's enough for ourselves not prioritises other species to get a room but for the next generations to experience the similiar wealth and beauty that we've enjoyed.

Fantastic to see! Sad that that is their life though. hatch, grow, breed then die. Mother Nature confuses me sometimes :-(

+Jennifer A Shepherd They have a life span of several months in which they are born, eat, grow, mate and die but they are fulfilled. Some who raise silkworms will boil them in their cocoons to kill them. I do not participate in this practice. I allow all to hatch and mate to complete their full life cycle. They are very friendly domesticated insects.

I agree with you. Don't shorten what little life they have. I actually think the moths look cute, but I'm weird that way. Used to have 'pet' caterpillars when I was little. I raised them to moths/butterflies then let them fly away :-) You're silk soap is truelly all handmade.

My son and I enjoyed watching this. We were fortunate this past fall to have 3 monarchs choose our garden to live out part of their life cycle.

+AnoushBotanical I raise a modest flock of silkworms once a year. I only use the silk for soap. I don't sell the worms or eggs or silk so I would call it more of a hobby rather than a farm.

What happens to the cocoon after the cicle? Why can't people use it after the worm has gotten out?
@GoodEarthSpa
@GoodEarthSpa 7 жыл бұрын
Felipe Gonzalez Lelong I do use them after the life cycle but I use them in soap. For making fabric, it requires an in tact cocoon. The cocoon is made from one long continuous strand which is then unraveled and combined with other strands to make a 4 or 5 ply thread. Those threads are woven to make a fine silk fabric. However, one could also use the fibers from cocoons after they emerge to make a thicker yarn type thread for sweaters or scarves or things like that.
