Jake Mehaffey Ha, those are great boots, this was right after I bought my second pair, they are police/military issue so they look dressy, but they are solid for climbing. I like them because have a side zipper so they are fast.

Two bits of advice if I may. Let the saw do the work, no need to reef down on the thing, if sharp, it will find its way. The other piece of advice is don't use a saw, or knife, or chisel, or other cutting tools while cutting toward you. You may not cut yourself today, or tomorrow, or next week, but someday... I pass these things on from personal experience in furniture making where I learned the hard way.

Excellent advice thank you. I'm afraid I let myself get distracted and forgot all the rules.

BTW, I have done this too. I had a ridge on my patella for years after. Did it reach your knee cap or was this just a flesh wound?

ArboriCole through the skin, and punctured the burcia layer on my knee, got infected and had to take horse pills for 2 weeks. One stupid tap.

I also have a theory that oak is partly to blame. I was pruning an oak when I hit my knee. I often have close calls and unpredictable follow throughs while pruning oaks. It’s something about the density and strength of the wood that makes it unpredictable as to when the cut is completed. I have become more aware because of it and I also pay close attention to the follow through...and keep my knee far away. (:

Climbing Arborist dude cut his forearm and nicked a tendon, look for his video. I think you should also take away to let the incredible sharpness of the saw do the work. You were pressing the saw down hard when it let go. Just pull it toward you and let the blade do the cutting at its own place without every putting a lot of pressure on it and you wan't get unexpected releases like this. you can't seriously be blaming the wood, right? I'm glad you didn't do worse damage. Sorry for your ordeal, and thanks for sharing. I appreciate it and will look out for this.

John Dowd thanks John, definitely not blaming the wood, it was bad work positioning to have my knee in the followthrough path, and lack of experience with a saw that you don't have to force through the wood. As I have gotten use to the level of performance, it has been a great saw. I appreciate the tips!

AHA, at long last you've learned the hidden meaning of your father's prophetic words of wisdom, "Son, if it ain't a Wisconsin Fur Oak, don't fix it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2a1ppaQqbSVibc Therefore, this limb was a Wisconsin Fur Oak so you've leaned the hidden meaning of your dad's parable. And I'm guessing he went on with "... or the Siky Zubat will bite you as payback." BTW - my Danish friend shared his father's words of wisdom, "You will either listen, or you will FEEL. 😲" Happy trails - Michael
