@@johnredpath I mean, sort of yeah. You're right, he probably would have managed to beat Hendry in a couple of those finals had he looked after himself and focused better. But to be fair to him, nobody could beat Hendry back then. The fact Jimmy beat his way into 6 world finals was amazing enough, and the one guy nobody could beat appeared to block him winning most of those. He came a hair away from topping Hendry on two occasions also, but yeah nerves and fatigue got the better of him.
@oldbloke1352 жыл бұрын
Nice to see Jimmy hasn't let coaches change his style. I always loved the way he addresses the very bottom of the cue ball and then adjusts the tip height on the shot. I couldn't do that if I tried!
@LordFlashheart.112 жыл бұрын
In a way he has. Watching him now to when he beat Hendry in 1998 10-4, to when he beat Matthew stevens in the B&H masters and when he was playing in the 1980's is like watching 4 different players. There are a few aspects that have been adjusted and changed by coaches that didn't need to be. I agree he has always addressed the cueball low and most of his timing and line of aim is probably done by that. He used to flow around the table and he was absolutely amazing to watch. He should have had Ray Reardon's advice and not the ones he went to. Great player though and one of my faves, it's a shame he never won more as his talent deserved.
@Kev7-c6u2 жыл бұрын
Jimmy used to twirl his cue. I do believe that if Jimmy never tampered with his natural action and put in more hours he'd be a better player now. I think what he needs to do in his current situation is to breathe and chuck his cue through shots. He's all too serious these days.
@LordFlashheart.112 жыл бұрын
@@Kev7-c6u yes he did. And again, all ads up to his natural timing. He started to see problems that weren't there and over thinking. I recently watched a Ray Reardon documentary and he said about Ronnie o Sullivan, that his aim was to make him impregnable. Jimmy lost 6 finals, o sullivan won 6. Reardon's help got him to 6. Maybe it would have helped. Its sad because how Jimmy used to play was so fluent and at his best he could demolish any player. Shame, Too late now.
@slippyg2 жыл бұрын
@@LordFlashheart.11 Hendry was the reason White never won a final. Hendry was an ice cold killer on the table. He had his chance and choked when he only needed that small clearance. Shame.
@LordFlashheart.112 жыл бұрын
@@slippyg Yes I agree, White should have won 2 of those finals. In one he was 16-11 up I think. Then in 94 the one he was close to winning he slung his cue into a routine black. My point is that I watched him in the seniors recently and his approach, cue action, and mannerism has changed again. He can still play well but his natural line of aim and talent is what still carries him through, in the pro tour/ circuit thats not enough. Too much has gone from his original game. In the earlier years especially the 84 final against Davis when he lost he didn't give a damn. He thought that there would be other years....we know what happened next! After Hendry came an army of similar standard players.

The lady who lead him in put him to shame with her stunning red dress & he proved he was a young lad. If he had looked the part Jimmy might of took more notice.
