Pickled hering is not fermented or however surströmming is made, but made with salted filees that are then put into a boiled mixture of sugar herbs + spices and ättika, which is a preserving, acid-forming liquid, (not like ecologic Apple cider vinegar, which is more healthy but less conserving, and used by myself who wishes a healthy sill , also with Stevia instead of suga. this year I won't boil the vinegar in order to preserve its goodness, but boil a small amount of water along with the spices and mix it in afterwards, but that's a different story). Different recipes, i reply while vid is playing, so I miss his exposë. The basic one is made with fresh rings of red onion. Red for its colour and mildness, you can use the ordinary, cheaper, more Yang yellow onion instead.
