Now that's a perfect drop. Fill in the hole an voila, no more silo. Good job.

That looks to be about 55', comprised of the original 35' with 20' added to it. Silo looks like the ones I built in Indiana and Kentucky for Madison Silos out of Markle IN, in 1966-67. The checkerboard at the top was the Madison Silo mark (in this case, one at the original 35', the top after the additional 20'). I moved upwards of 6000 30" concrete staves a week, each one weighing 77 lb. I was lean and mean in those days. Piece work. Very good money. I was the ground man, sending up the staves and then sitting in a bosun's chair under a block and tackle to tighten the hoops while the other two members of the crew installed the roof. When one of those staves got loose from the grabber when I sent it up, I would really jump -- I was in the next county before it hit the ground. Biggest we built was 70' tall. Smallest was 40'. Quit after I lost my nerve on the 70 footer. Just too high for me in a bosun's chair. Clever way you "buried" the rubble! The door frame was pretty stubborn.

They dug a huge trench and then started from the center of that trench and worked there way back the silo fell exactly where they wanted right in the trench.

same way a tree is felled, where they knocked out blocks are equal to the wedge cut in a tree, , when the support on that ''side'' is removed, the top will be heavier than the side remaining can support, and will fall twards the side where the support blocks are removed. simple physics, (sort of)

you need to cut at least 3/4 way round a tube to make it crumple.a tube is the strongest form.i cut a tree branch till there was only centre 2 inch,of a 10 inch limb,it still stayed strait out,

Little undercut in the digging of the hole might have done it without cracking the concrete.

I can not believe they were permitted to bury the debris and not recycle it. Talk about pollution.

concrete comes from the earth,.a prius costs more to run & manufacture than a normal car, global warming is bullshit.we are heading for an ice age.the sun will flare,or the comet will get you before global warming,.why you not concerned about fukashima,THAT IS KILLING THE PLANET.

Concrete is considered "clean fill" so burying it has no impact on the environment. It's just rock. As long as they not worried about ground settling it's fine.
