In March of 2022, we decided to ride the Chief Ladiga and Silver Comet trails from Anniston, Alabama to Smyrna, Georgia in a weekend. We put in long days, but had loads of fun. 200 miles and lots of laughs later, we had made some lasting memories on the trail. Here's our story. This video is a version of what happened that weekend, existing only as a small slice of our cycling adventure. It's hard to chop down 72 hours into 13 minutes.
Hope you enjoy!

When I lived in Marietta I had a "guilty pleasure". It was that ride up to the Brushy Mountain Tunnel from Rockmart. 7 miles of lung stretching goodness. I used to ride out and backs on the Georgia side, it was......good training, LOL.

What you 2 said at the end about finding it difficult to find someone who wants to ride 200 miles in a weekend and sleep on the ground is sooooo true. My son and I enjoy doing this, but he's getting older and riding with the old man isn't cool any more. Now we both have trouble finding anyone to ride with.

There are clubs/groups that ride. I met a group of Scouts with some adults who rode together.

Looks great! I want to do this with my adult daughter- would you say it’s a pretty safe trail AND are there lots of camping and /or hotel options along the trail?
@KyleTheCyclist
@KyleTheCyclist 11 ай бұрын
Yes, the trail is very safe. I have traveled it a few times now and see all kinds of people out and about. I wouldn't say there is much in the way of hotels or camping spots. Beautiful Rock Campground and Chief Ladiga Trail Campground are the only two that I know of. I would not recommend staying at the Camp Comet site. It's not great.

@@KyleTheCyclist in Hiram, Paulding County, between mile marker 14 and 18, there are 3 hotels. There is a large fire station, Home Depot, Target, Walmart, etc. Google has all the other places and distances you might want. There was a woman life flighted about 10 years ago from being beaten at mile marker 18. The man who did it was never found. In 2006 there was a murder near mile marker 17. He is in prison for the murder of Jennifer Ewing. There are cameras from several miles starting at 15 mile marker, near the caboose, fire station, and many restaurants and big box stores.

Is there only one campground on the entire trail?

How was the water situation? Was it easy to find? Could you only camp at designated sites?
@KyleTheCyclist

Not bad, but it wasn't very hot the weekend we did it. I would definitely carry at least two bottles. The trail intersects roads at many places, so you could divert and get water if really needed. There are multiple options for camping, but I would not recommend camp comet. Check bikesilvercomet.com/ for the most complete list of water, camp sites, etc.

@@KyleTheCyclist why not recommend camp comet?
@KyleTheCyclist
@KyleTheCyclist Жыл бұрын
@@robinleachlosttapes6527 When we rolled through, the camp area was being semi permanently occupied by homeless people. Beyond that, it's kind of in the swampy area and depending on what time of year you stay, could easily be overrun with bugs.
