Silver Cuban link ring (completely handmade) from start to finish, natural sounds, relaxing asmr

Just curious - did you go to school to learn this, was it more of an apprenticeship or are you a self-taught kinda genius? And when you joined the two end of the chain, did you intentionally make a new cut instead of just reopening the original one?

Thanks so much 😄 I taught myself with a lot of trial and error and KZbin videos 😂, I’ve never met another jeweller before but I learned the basics from watching the Russian chain makers here on KZbin. (I’m a beginner they are the masters!) To connect that chain into a ring you need to re cut one link because all the links are soldered so you can twist it You actually make it with 2 extra links because these get damaged in the twisting process, you remove these 2 links then cut through the previous soldered join on the link you want to connect the ring with If that makes sense?

Lovely job, what size is the mandril for making the jump rings. I will definitely make in the future but a persian link is my next project.👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thanks, I can’t remember the mandrel size for this project but I’m pretty sure the wire was 1.5mm that would mean the mandrel was 3mm With these style of links you want them fairly tight so whatever wire you use you just double the diameter for the mandrel

They are in order in the video If I remember correctly it goes Green Blue Brown Chestnut Purple Light green Starts at 80grit finishes at 1000

What is the size of the wire and the size of the ring around which we wrap the wire?

I think the wire was about 2.1mm and the mandrel was 4.4mm Your wire has to be a slightly under half the size of your mandrel for a tight chain this will work with any size mandrel

A 4mm mandrel will be fine it’s actually the correct size to use it ends up being pretty tight though so I sometimes recommend using 4.2 for the extra room, I buy bags of mixed brass rods some come out at this size try the 4mm but if you want slightly larger wrap the mandrel in 1 layer of masking tape this should give you a little extra, but generally the rule is whatever the diameter of your wire double it because you want to make each link connection tight as possible to the next So 1.5mm wire = 3mm mandrel 3mm wire=6mm mandrel

I don’t know the length of the wire I started with but the ring finished at approximately 10 grams, these rings don’t produce much waste if you don’t file to much so you could start with say 12 grams of 2mm wire but I’d recommend 15grams to compensate for any mistakes, filing and or larger sizing
