Thank you for bringing up that many of us have criminals in our family. It's complicated and it comes with a lot of judgment. I appreciate the safe space to be with others who have experienced this. Criminals in your family breeds destruction on so many levels and not everyone understands how you can still love those that chose that path. Not to mention the loneliness that occurs when your family is behind bars.

Also, Justin Lum produced a brilliant documentary just before Chad's trial started. There are many documentaries out there but he managed to explain the story and all the protagonists in a way that even a newcomer to the case could understand the plot quickly and follow the trial of serial killer Chad Daybell.

In shadows dark, where secrets lie, Two souls conspired beneath the sky. Chad and Lori, bound by fate, Wove a tale of love and hate. Whispers carried on the breeze, A twisted path through ancient trees. In Idaho, the land stood still, As truth revealed its bitter chill. Children lost, their voices gone, Innocence shattered by the dawn. A prophecy of doom and dread, Led them to where angels tread. Graves concealed in silent earth, Bore witness to a haunting birth. Of lies and schemes, a tangled web, In lives where hope and joy had ebbed. A courtroom's light, harsh and bright, Exposed the darkness of the night. Justice sought for hearts betrayed, For spirits lost and lives waylaid. Yet in the end, the truth stands tall, Above the whispers' mournful call. For though the night is cold and long, The dawn will rise, with justice strong.

Yes, CD’s kids may be “good at keeping secrets,” & also lying, at least Emma is. But poor Garth just gets confused, probably because his conscience bothers him. I can hear it in the 911 call- CD takes the phone after he sees Garth gets rattled & gives up on the script, “…I don’t know.” & on the stand he even admits to Prior, “I think I’m confused…” when he’s asked about the primary driver, whether it was his mom or his dad. IMO, he may as well have said, “Wait, can we go over again what it is I’m supposed to say?! This is all very stressful.”

Agreed. I spent the last 4-5 years giving them the benefit of the doubt on every negative count I heard & saw about them, even EDM’s childish tongue display for TV cameras. However, nothing excuses lying - under oath - in a court of law. Those 2 are adults. They are educators, & after EDM’s admission to being a part of her dad’s teachings, I believe she should be charged, not only for perjury, but also as an accessory to conspiring with her dad in her mother’s murder, or at the very least, covering for him. She claimed she was the one who did the wind/ weather direction search- just after saying that she “doesn’t know directions.” So, in taking responsibility for that search, obviously she thought she was helping her dad (by lying). However, she actually admitted to conspiracy.

I've been following this for so long... and in the beginning, all we thought was that this was just a custody case with a mom hiding her kids from other family, etc. I would have NEVER imagined all of this. Never, ever, in a million, billion, zillion years. The case became personal to me. The kids became like my family. The Woodcocks became like my family. Colby became a person I care about. So it was devastating to learn the outcome... and I'm not sure I'll ever recover. I think family members who are victims of crime inflicted by other family members need to work out the source of the trauma. The mental illness is generally deep-seated and typically sourced during childhood and/or upbringing! I’m not trying to be critical, but I believe the person you are forgetting here is Lori. She did not suddenly go from being a “great person and mother” to commiting familicide overnight. There was something wrong with her all along and that needs to be worked through by the whole family. I don’t think there are any constructive criticism that occurs in this space. I think you have offered email addresses for constructive criticism. I would personally recommend directing comments to that avenue. If people take the effort to email, then you can take the time to consider their feedback. I also think you should have a volunteer screen those emails and pass along the ones that meet the parameters to address or consider. I would be happy to be that volunteer if needed. I value you both and your families. I don’t typically comment but I am listening and learning.

I’m so sorry you lost your son, it’s devastating. I lost my 49 yr old son last June, it’s a never ending heartbreak. On Facebook some people gave me some good support and I appreciate them so much. I pray for you and myself that we might find peace and comfort knowing our sons are in a better place.❤❤❤

Why am I here listening to this podcast? You have helped me find me again. For that I'm thankful . IMO why this horrific case has brought so many people together is we want to help you the direct victims of these crimes. We want to help you carry this burden by letting you know you are not alone. Through all the trials and court hearings we have been brought closer together and in God's plan, for those who believe in Him, know we are all family in faith and love. Trolls are people that are not secure in their own lives . They are only happy when they are making waves and trying to make others as miserable as they are. Darkness is their friend. We who feel true feelings and have compassion walk in light and love and want the best for everyone, even Chad and Lori . I have disgusting feelings for them both , being human , but I do hope that someday , someway they find their way back to reality. Thank you for sharing your feelings and for respecting those that can agree to disagree. Much love from Pennsylvania .

One suggested future topic for resources would be concerning caregivers for needed support in many ways. They are warriors, but it is grueling; and they can’t, or don’t, seek self-care when taking care of others. Their own physical and mental health take a back seat, often for years. Financial setbacks also incur, as little assistance is available to them or to families (despite Biden’s efforts). They can suffer a unique anticipatory grief in cases of prolonged or terminal illness as well as the final loss of life. That grief can multiply with a tragic or unexpected end, which causes further trauma. There is much healing, in many ways, that is needed. Finally, there is a loss of identity once their service is over. Caregiving is an “onion” of its own, which I hope can be explored and which may affect many Optimists. Grief and depression, and loss and healing, are huge areas in many unique situations - including caregiving.

I am a survivor of serious abuse and have PTSD. I mention this because I know a FABULOUS trauma counselor who I a sure would come on the show to help give ideas and resources for healing. Her name is Nancy Loeb and you would love , LOVE HER! I have also spoken alongside her in schools and churches about what red flags to look for in kids in homes that are not safe. I have been here from the start and love your channel. Let me know if you would like me to connect you all. Nancy is a gem- very soecial- works with kids and adults for over 35 years. And she is funny and special like you folks. She is a true optimist! Your channel has helped me so much to feel a part of a community committed to healing and support. You honor Charles, Tammy, Tylee and JJ in all you do and say.

Hello from the Netherlands! My name is Tjaaktje, but you can call me T.J. or Jacky. I lived as an exchange student in Nebraska for one year, many years ago, in 1995. My host father was a prosecutor, and because of him, I became interested in law and following court cases. I learned about J.J., Tylee, Charles, and Tammy in February 2020 when they were still searching for the kids. I followed Lori’s case, and now I’m following Chad’s case. It’s perfect timing for me because I get out of work at 4:30 pm, which is 8:30 am in Idaho. I’ve been watching your Silver Linings podcast since you started during Lori’s trial. I appreciate your views on the case and on life in general. You did a great job helping me see things as more than just black and white / dark vs. light. You brought different shades to the whole story for me. Thank you. I wish my English were better so I could express myself more clearly. That’s why I never commented before. My receptive English is very good, but I always struggle to find the right way to say what I want to say. Best wishes to you and your family!

You could not have asked me a better question. I think Larry and Kay would agree with me. Grandparents need a way to be able to check on their grandkids when they have been shut out of their life

As a woman who was almost smothered to death by an ex, and who was almost killed at JJ's age by her father, this trial means a lot to me. Seeing Larry in the courtroom every day reminds me that my grandfather and grandmother would have stood up for me had either of those people actually killed me.
