@@GearTech147 It's really, really good. My favorite JRPG series, in fact. Just a little niche. But I don't want you to get into this without knowing anything about it, since there's a few things you should be aware of when getting into Trails, so lemme share some stuff with you. Trails loves to tell very, very long stories, but it does not love to get right into the action like a lot of JRPGs do. In most JRPGs, there'll be some event early on that makes you aware of what the plot is going to be about by the time the prologue is over. Trails is not like this. You will go through many hours of gameplay without the plot really doing a whole lot, as the game uses this time to do a lot of character development and world building. I, personally, really liked this approach as it made sure that I cared about the characters and the world they lived in before the plot expected me to, but I've known a lot of people who didn't like this at all as they found its extraordinarily long start to be boring and drawn out. The game's combat, while certainly unique and fairly interesting for turn-based combat, is fairly complicated in the first five games in the series. For that reason, it takes things a little slow and simple at first to let you get the hang of it before it dumps the whole system on you and expects you to be ready to properly utilize the combat mechanics to your advantage. These games DO get very difficult, and you will need to be prepared for that or else it may turn you off from the games. That said, grinding is not really a thing in this series. You can grind if your really want to, but I've never experienced a point in the game where it was actually necessary to do so in order to proceed. Obviously you'll want to kill some of the enemies you pass by in the field, but you don't have to stay in one place killing those same enemies over and over and over again. Lastly, the series is very long, and its story is told across multiple titles. It's recommended you play the games in this order: Trails in the Sky FC > Trails in the Sky SC > Trails in the Sky 3rd > Trails in Zero > Trails in Azure > Trails of Cold Steel > Trails of Cold Steel II > Trails of Cold Steel III > Trails of Cold Steel IV However, these can be broken up into their respective arcs. The 3 sky games are the Liberl Trilogy, Zero and Azure are the Crossbell Duology, and the Cold Steel games are sort of split between two arcs, with I and II taking place in Erebonia at the same time as Zero and Azure's stories respectively, while III and IV serve to bring the two arcs together. Though, important to note is that Zero and Azure have not been localized nor ported to PC like all the other games, and we're also not sure if that will ever happen. It's unfortunate, but not a deal breaker, as you'll still be able to play III and IV even if you haven't played Zero and Azure, it just helps if you did. My recommendation, though, is to pick up just Trails in the Sky FC (it won't have "FC" in its name on Steam, it's just "The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky") by itself. It's like $20 on Steam, it'll run on a toaster, and it's the shortest game in the series. If you can get to the end of that game and feel no desire to find out what happens next in SC, then the series is not for you. If you do feel interested, though, then go ahead and pick up SC, and then, if you want to explore the series as a whole, pick up 3rd once you beat SC. Trails in the Sky FC and SC are a complete story by themselves, while 3rd exists to set things up for the other games that come later, so keep that in mind. That all said, I hope you enjoy this series as much as I have if you do get into it.

@@Volcanic_Rave so what is the order that the games released, and which game do you recommend to play first in the series? Is it a series where you can jump in at any point, or a series you need to play in order?
@Volcanic_Rave4 жыл бұрын
@@mcxopjesh the order of the series is Trails in the Sky (FC (which is just labeled as Trails in the Sky on Steam), SC, 3rd), the Crossbell arc (Zero no Kiseki, Ao no Kiseki), and Trails of Cold Steel (1-4), they were released in chronological order and this is the optimal playing order. CS1 and CS3 were both designed to be suitable jumping on points, although playing those before the rest of the series heavily spoils basically everything. I should also note that Zero and Ao haven't been officially released outside of Asia, but Zero has an excellent fan translation, and Ao's is nearly complete. The games are pretty easy to get if you know where to look, but if you don't want to do that you can probably skip from 3rd to CS1 (I wouldn't recommend that though, Zero's easily my favorite of the entries that I've played so far). It's also rumored that a localization may happen soon, so that's a possibility to look out for

I can pretty much echo Mariomaniac88's comments. The Trails in the Sky trilogy is great and is absolutely worth playing. And the two Crossbell entries are a couple of my favorite RPGs ever. I'm a lot cooler on Cold Steel, but they are still solid in their own right. The series is very interconnected which is basically its unique selling point. There aren't really any other long-running RPG series telling a massive, ongoing story like this. There are 10(!) games in the series so far (and more to come) and all of them take place in three neighboring countries over the span of about 5 years. As such, events from other games are frequently alluded to, characters from other games make appearances, and sometimes story events cross games and show you two sides of a conflict, or a long-term cause and effect. But those same strengths can also make the series kind of a slog at first, because there's a LOT of worldbuilding and setting the groundwork for what comes later. And if you start with a later entry it can feel overwhelming with all the jargon, characters you should seemingly recognize, events that seem important but you don't entirely understand what they are, etc.

I really hope we see more from the Trails series eventually. I’ve been addicted to these games all year and there’s a lot more I’d like to see you tackle. Just to throw out a few of my favorites as suggestions if you decide to come back to the series: Gravestone Struck by Lightning (Sky SC) Unfathomed Force (Azure) Don’t Be Defeated by a Friend (Cold Steel 1) Heated Mind (Cold Steel 2) Severe Blow (Cold Steel 2) Spiral of Erebos (Cold Steel 3)

Oh man I am playing this right now and love it so much. This couldn't have dropped at a more perfect time for me. What a bad ass theme for a bad ass fight. This game is chocked FULL of awesome tunes. EDIT: You paid homage to this excellent theme beautifully. Great job and thank you for doing so.
