There are issues with some cases developing a hole from insufficient internal clearances. I think my 06 Sierra may suffer that. Good video clearly showing access and correct fluid. Thanks!!!

There is nothing special about the A-II fluid. It is a synthetic ATF that has blue instead of red. The difference between the auto trak case and regular 4wd case is that the autotrak has a clutch pack in it. You must use ATF in it. Any good multi-vehicle ATF fluid will work fine. It does not have to be the blue stuff, is just absolutely has to be ATF, not gear oil.

I refilled my 05 yukon after 52 ounces leaked out. It holds 64 ounces total. I ran out of auto trak fluid after 26 ounces and made a mix of 50/50 merc3 atf to 10w30 motor oil for the rest. So far so good.

You should always open the fill plug first, just in case it's seized, you'll be screwed if you've already drained it all out..

I’ve had my 04 for 14 years. These trucks are notorious for always working on the brakes and drivetrain. Waiting for that 4L60e to turn to confetti again!😂 Can’t believe they are already 20 years old

I just changed my fluid in my 05 silverado 1500 and transfer case fluid was red too, must be from factory. I made sure to get right fluid going in.

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra how much fluid should I use and also will this help the little noise I'm hearing at the transfer case
@dirtydavesgarage82512 жыл бұрын
You just remove the top and bottom plugs to drain (make sure to remove top one first as thats the one you fill it by.) Once its drained, put bottom plug back in, and fill through top hole until it starts running out then put top plug back in. I don't remember how much I used, but you can probably google it.

not very familiar with these trucks, just had a winter storm here and had to use the 4wd which worked perfectly, I am concerned about the excessive humming noise coming from the transfer case. Is this normal for these trucks? 2000 silverado 1500 z71 4wd pickup.

The old trucks from 70s would make like winding noise especially in 4 low but in usually if the noise continues to sound worse aand more pronounced over time somtimes wearing out just watch it for awhile!
@dnlmachine42873 жыл бұрын
Change the fluid. Transfer case will make a LITTLE bit of extra noise, but it shouldnt be excessive. Stay gold.

Yes. Some Humming/binding is normal if running around in 4wd on dry pavement. Good way to destroy the Tcase. Only use 4wd on slick surfaces. (Snow ice mud sand silt gravel)
@CAYakAngler Жыл бұрын
Do you think that maybe having bad fluid or not changing the fluid will make the “4WD” switch not work or even make the truck go into 4x4 on its own while driving? I’m currently having that problem with my truck
@dirtydavesgarage8251 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I have read that the wrong type of fluid can affect the 4wd switch in these trucks. Mine had the wrong fluid in when i first got it, i drained and replaced with the correct fluid recommended for my particular transfer case. Had red fluid in at first, the GM recommended fluid was blue in my case. You will need to get the model # off the transfer case and do some research to get the correct fluid. I think at some point the previous owner had a shop replace his fluid as part of maint, and they didn't' bother to do the correct research, and put in something they had in stock. I had to order the fluid for mine to make sure it was the right stuff.
@xIronMikex Жыл бұрын
@@dirtydavesgarage8251 not sure if your tracking but that red fluid may have been Valvoline multi veh transfer case fluid. It says it can be used in auto trac II instances. I was forced to do that as no one in a 100 miles had the dealer recommended fluid
@billybobbarker31759 ай бұрын
NO. The fluid will not affect your Tcase shifting problem. What does is that there is a sensor ring in the Tcase shift motor that is a common fail. You can replace the motor (300$) or you can change just the encoder ring inside the motor (60$). There are good KZbin videos on this.
