They are striking themselves with 20 times as much force as the strongest human can. They throw a punch like getting hit by a truck. It makes a higher pitch sound than a human strike does just because there's so much more force behind it.

@@tylerchambers6246 That's not true, I've seen gorillas beat their chests in the zoo and they do it by slightly cupping their hands and then slapping it against their pecks, creating that sound. I can do it pretty easily, if a Gorilla punched with 20x the same force as humans they would literally cave a hole in their chests.

The reason why the chest beats are just "pop, pop, pop" is because male gorillas have pouches in their chest that inflate. Then they cup their hands instead of using their palms. This makes the popping sound. The 'pop' sound goes farther then thumps.

I get lost studying a gorillas face, it amazes me just how human they are. We’re really not that far off genetically

@@adrienneadams7758 Yeah but we also share 60% DNA to a benanna, DNA isnt just abotu componants but how their organised and thats what makes us so incredibly different despite only 3% as the components of the dna are organised differently
