Silverback Gorilla Oumbi Can Be Very Patience

Oumbi might like to display his dominance by charging and poking out his chest at everybody, but he can also be very calm when he wants to be and in this video he has got a lot of patience with his two sons as they love running circles around him. If it wasn't for him moving later on, you would of thought that he was a statue. There is a little pause when Oumbi seems to put Lope on hold for a few seconds, but than the brothers continue. Watch Lope as he moves around slowly, being cheeky again, he gives Oumbi a slight nudge with his hand.

Agree, would definitely know what he things sometimes. Sometimes I get the feeling he's holding back, he might like to join in the fun, but stops himself probably thinking: Nope I'm the silverback I have to be responsible and keep everybody in check.

I love seeing them play and happy. Oumbie has such a huge upper body. Looks like his little butt doesn't fit his upper body size. Tiny heinie and huge muscles from waste up. Silverbacks are so muscular and huge, yet so agile in chase movement. Just remarkable how much power yet such peaceful and gentle souls. (Well, except for crazy little Lope, he is a speeding train off the tracks! :-) )

Watching again. Oumbi looks like he's meditating. The boys are completely comfortable playing smack up against him. I think there is a lot more friendliness from dad taking place that I have been missing. It is very comforting to me.

Thank you Happy Feet. I never seen Oumbi play with anybody. He always keeps an eye open on everything going on and sometimes you get the feeling he would love to play and have fun, just like the boys, but he seems to stop himself like he thinks he can't be seen to be soft. You can't really hear the gorilla family through the thick glass, so there is always other zoo noise and unfortunately noisy humans :-)
