Oh my goodness, the Bailey's interviewed on this film were my grandparents, a Bailey lived at 80 Bury Road from 1870 until 1988...Oh, my this is fabulous!!! I was just browsing around and came up on this video! My grandparents passed away in the 1980's and it was like seeing ghosts!! Wonderful ghosts....Thank you so much!!!

I'm glad I found this, Not only did I live in George Street but my late mother worked for Johnson & partners for years, I was informed of a ghost that used to go across the archway over the road that joined to The Old Kings Arms into my Mums offices!.

It was made based on a suggestion from Tom Lowrence (correct spelling). The Hemel Hempstead Cine Society contacted Clifford Owen from the local history society, who proved an invaluable, As well as basically taking over the film. I operated a boom microphone. The production was shot on the Kodak super 8 guage. The quality was far superior on this film guage. The film was premiered inside Saint Mary's Church in the old part of the town circa 1983. It had a good write up from the international magazine, The Movie Maker. I think the Hemel Hempstead Gazette also wrote about it. I was interviewed by a Darrren Taylor of local hospital radio, and gave reference to it. At a later date the histoiry society was keen to have copies made on video tape. The video tapes were not as good a quality as the film. Video has improved since then. It looks like that what is on You Tube has been copied fom a television set and a video camera. If I am wrong, pray forgive me. There was some talk of Hemel Hempstead Cine Society aka HemelHempstead Movie Makers, getting dvd copies. But sadly, this organisation disbanded a few years ago. Sorry. Alan French, former member and at the then time, secretary.

My first Saturday job when I was 12 (1957) was in the upstairs of the old Fire Station. "Derek Adams Radio & TV" Later I lived behind the shops going up the hill on the right in Heather Way and was married in St Marys to a cousin of the Brockett's Hardware store also on the right.

Hi Tina, I live in Hemel Hempstead and love the history of it! Do you still have the original copy of this tape to hand? I would love to make a digital copy of it for you with higher quality and any other videos you might think would be interesting. Let me know
