Well explained video. Just installed these Dr. Pully 26g sliders this afternoon. It was nice having this video to follow. Thanks for taking the time to explain and post.

Thanks. Riding a 2012 Shadow now, but looking at a 2002 SW for day trips for both of us. I also like the storage as I only have the bike (wife has a cage) & I do the grocery runs. The SW sounds like a good all arounder for town, local touring together, & some 1-up extended tours. Looks easy to maintain too. That way I could set up my Shadow Aero as a solo cruiser & do other stuff with a SW. Appreciate the quick response.

2 up at 430 lbs at 70-75 mph is no problem. The Swing is rated at 375 lbs. I would suggest bumping up tire pressures to 30 front and 38 rear. Set the rear shock preload to 5, the firmest setting. A set of front progressive HyperPro springs eliminates dive on braking, and the Swing is more stable during undulating road surfaces when cornering. Dr. P sliders increase acceleration, lower cruising rpm by 500, and reduce belt slap and vibration.

Where can I get these sliders and belt

There is an easier way to torque the variator by pulling out the outer drive face of the clutch, so the belt can get enough room on the variator side.

I opened up my belt case recently after about 3k km, and I noticed no extra belt dust. The case was fairly clean and the belt case air cleaner was not very dirty. I'm not sure why you would suspect the Dr. Pulley sliders of causing extra belt wear. Above 4000 rpm, the belt will ride higher on the front drive faces than it will with the stock rollers, causing your cruising rpm to be lowered by about 500 rpm compared to the stock rollers.

I just want to point out to anyone purchasing a new CVT anything should check the life of the belt. Some of these maxis are approaching 20 years old now, even if the belt doesn't have miles on it some of these belts are going to far exceed the recommended life of 2 years. And with age comes dirt and dust, which can equally deteriorate the performance and life of the components in the CVT. Do your future self a favor and at least take 15-30 minutes to take the cover off and, at the very least, inspect what you're working with on your new scoot. Belts, weights, cleaning, etc it's too cheap and easy to not do if it's needed, and sometimes even if it's not. I've done this, and just to find that a perfectly good running scooter had terrible grime and a slash in the belt! It was ready to bust and it wasn't having any more. TLDR: This shits too easy to skimp out on just take the cover off and have a look.

How is the SW for 2 up adults for day touring? About 430 pounds people & gear, back roads and some highway (70-75mph)? Is it doable? Very informative videos. Appreciate it. Oh, and what gains from the Dr. Pulley rollers? Thanks.

Don't hold the outer cone as you tighten the bolt, the belt will climb the pulley as it gets tighter automatically...

Why did you change the rollers to Dr. Pully sliders? I guess I missed something. Thanks for the great video. Dave
@tcalof

The stock rollers cause belt slap and vibration. The stock rollers also aren't the best for responsive acceleration. Read about them on the Dr. Pulley website.

No. Any lube will collect dust and eventually gum up the action of the sliders, causing them to stick.

Great video....however.. I have no information as to why you were replacing the belt and rollers. How many miles does the belt last? Like tires... I hope not. Like a motorcycle every 5-6K. I'm thinking about getting one but need to know the mechanic's of it and how often I would have to do maintenance and change belts and tires as I have back problems. Is the engine and cooling system pretty much like servicing a regular motorcycle? Thanks.
@tcalof
@tcalof 9 жыл бұрын
I replaced his rollers with sliders because he wanted the reduced vibration, increased acceleration, and lower cruising rpm that sliders offer over stock rollers. I replaced his belt because his old one was nearing its EOL (end of life) based on mileage.

You mean it can handle only 15K wear and that's it?? Yipes. I love the drive shaft. This is worse than a chain sound like. How many miles does the belt last and tires too. Thanks
@tcalof
@tcalof 9 жыл бұрын
John Smith The belt should go 16k miles. Tires? Depends on your driving style, inflation, speed, and load. They can go anywhere from 5k miles to 15k miles. Scooters eat tires compared to motorcycles, as the scooter tire is smaller and works harder.

tcalof Thanks for the info. I always babied my bike's even the Goldwing I had and never could get more than 5 or 6 k out of a rear tire. What is the engine like....much maintenance? This seems to be like a over glorified mini bike clutch system. :-) Thanks again.
@tcalof
@tcalof 9 жыл бұрын
John Smith The Silverwing's CVT is much the same as a minibike, snowmobile, or car CVT. They all work on the same principle. The Silverwing engine has very little maintenance, just like the Goldwing. You will find the Silverwing air filter way easier to change than the Goldwing's. The GW air filter takes hours to change, the Silverwing's only minutes.

Good video! And the results? Is it worth it to change the rollers against the Dr Pulley blocks? My Sliverwing is 18 years old.
@tcalof
@tcalof 4 жыл бұрын
I would say it is a good idea. There will be less vibration from the belt, no belt slap, and acceleration is stronger and smoother.

Hey Terry. would this improve my mpg? should i go OEM rollers and belt, or go with sliders and oem belt? looking for my 45mpg again, and faster acceleration. it has dropped to around 38ish, and has just under 10k miles, 2013, already have fresh oil, battery filters, brand new oem irc tires, thank , Ricky.
@tcalof
@tcalof 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ricky. I would recommend the sliders and OEM belt for better acceleration and less vibration from belt slap. Have you done a throttle body synch? It's quite remarkable how much smoother the engine will run with the synch. You need a throttle (carb) balancing device to do that.

I had installed a switched light for the trunk light. Before, the light came on whenever the trunk was opened. The switch was from an older Honda Civic dome light. The switch was a combo light/switch. Perfect fit.
