Silwan, Jerusalem: How Israeli Jewish settlers are occupying Palestinian homes

Silwan is easily identifiable by the eyes that are painted on the walls of the Palestinian houses. Eyes that follow you even from a distance. Almost like the houses bear witness to those that strip away the people that make the homes. It is a testament to the Palestinians that continue to resist the Israeli occupation by simply remaining in their homes every single day. It isn’t as simple as an “eviction” like US media portrays when reporting on the displacements happening in Jerusalem. We walked through Silwan with our friend Mohammad and -__ who are from the area. There, we talk to the locals and hear about their daily encounters with Israeli settlers and soldiers that are making life difficult for them in their own neighborhoods. The ways we nurture houses into homes gives our neighborhood its soul. There is so much beauty, art and sounds of children in this narrow street of Silwan. I feel that the soul of Silwan is a delicate reminder of what can’t be evicted or occupied, and it’s the sheer feeling of love, family, and community.

@@kiaq1153 when Arabs say “settlers” they mean any Jew living anywhere on that land, including Tel Aviv. Also, these properties were Jewish owned and Jordan ethnically cleansed the Jews from Judaea and Samaria when they conquered in 1948. When Israel took the territory back these families filed court cases that were in the courts for years. The Arab families accepted the generous terms until it got politicized and they were threatened by Palestinian extremists
