SimCity 4 Speedrun 1M POPULATION 2BT Former WR

I recently started playing this game for the first time ever, after having played Cities Skylines for years, and while I do miss the 3D camera and the ease of building a complicated road network, Simcity outshines it in every other way. I love that you can start the game in so many different ways and it doesn't make you go bankrupt immediately or the buildings go abandoned after a few seconds of not meeting a need. Like I've been starting the game with agriculture, but you started with dirty industry.

Yeah, nails for breakfast hardening character better ) I would prefer need for agriculture, but, AFAIK, you don't need agriculture at all. It's basically the dirty industry, but pollute water instead of air. And it's not developing in a way industries do when your sims become more educated. So it is more for "roleplay" )

This video has taught me that I should pretty much ignore all the advisors and (for the most part) the RCI demand.. Also, no high schools?!

Well it's not like I'm ignoring RCI, I just play this game long enough to approximately know where it would be in any specific stage of the game and zone it in advance in the specific layout :) High Schools boost middle class citizens, which come in lesser amounts and demand more land. So it is hard to pack them efficiently. And in speedrun you need quantity over quality ;D

It's two big tiles category (2BT). On the first one I got 751,537 and second - 251,778. That's give 1,003,315 in total.

A 6x6 grid to start is interesting, i think i always went 8x8 also why using oil plants at the beginning, yes they provide a bit more power, but are iirc they cost 700$/month, compared to coals 250$. environment does not matter with all the industry another thing i notice is the grid in the industry area itself, u could place giant zones without streets, making the buildings on the outside grow more and more inwards.

With 8x8 it's harder to achieve reliable grow. Traffic and commute time are creating a lot of problems. If you go for very big buildings in late game it is easier with 4x4 then. Maybe it is skill issue, but I couldn't get better population on 8x8. Eh.. I don't remember why I use oil plants, lol.. (^_^)> I think they got you enough energy for city strip in this layout and have some excess for deterioration, so you don't rebuild them often. So it's some kind of "standardization" of layout: OP + 8 dumps. When you speedruning on easy money is not a problem, because you don't use that many services to encourage $$ and $$$ buildings which have less population. Industrial zones grow only in 3 tiles length from roads. And again, fewer roads - worse traffic and commute time.

I see hou you buildthe city and you were very close to my build but still it is not correct to the end in using game mechanics... But I can agree that this build is one of the best I saw on youtube.

​@@user-co2li5qd4p yes, SC4 Deluxe. But it's kind of the default version nowadays. You can't buy pure non Deluxe SC4 in digital stores. So "vanilla" == "no modes" )

@@fantomass47 i got it. I havent had the chance to buy it, as i play the cracked version (gog games lol). I do know about some mods, they added special buildings, some more sightseeings and more complex road/rail/highway options, which really are needless imho. Some questions, as i enjoyed all of the speedrun. Is this speedrun possible while trying to keep air and water pollution low, taking into account your limitation (no road connection for the next tile, which can be used to build just dirty industry) ? So that you can get the resort hotel gift as well? This requires that you build only recycling plants and landifills as well (no waste to energy plant- i know it costs a fortune -you would need 50 of them, as budget at start is tight and you had to get some loans anyways. I also loved the 9 6×6 arrangment with avenues forming the outer grid. Very clever for maximizing density and reducing jams. I usually went 5×6 with avenues making grid only vertically or horizonally

SC4:DE - is pure vanilla, and pure SC4 - is pure pure vanilla ;D > Is speedrun possible without pollution I think it's possible. There are not many people who speedruned SC4 and rules of the categories still haven't been settled (AFAIK). I did this speedrun just because I didn't find any at a time. And I didn't really understand the rules of category. I actually could use more than 2BT and make the "dirty" tile. But in terms of speed, I'm not sure if it could be faster )

I don't! Just "practice makes perfect" :D Also - the price. Big districts surrounded by avenues are $1440 in length and width. So, if you have put them right, to put other roads for trained eye - is muscle memory :)

Oh, It's just a random one. I rolled it until it gives me three big maps close to each over. If you mean region with those cities - they have long gone now. Deleted them for new runs and experiments. If you're interested in specific layouts, you can google something like "SimCity 4 custom region". There are lots of tutorials on how to make specific layouts with height maps etc :)
