5k'ers unite. I would put this one as noticeable and noticeably going to affect the tonal balance but not overly fatiguing like a true 5K over 2k situation. But when you make it go away in EQ, you realize that it would be better if it was not there.

Fantastic review Paul. The graph seems something exactly I would love. Love the super warm signature, a bummer I couldn't try them. Also really a fan of the different colour iems. Makes it easy when wearing it daily.

Although I don't have the em10, but have the supermix4 and completely agree that it is very perception dependent on the source especially the output impedance

Quite different but yes. The disclaimer is that I like BA sets but I also know those aren't for everyone. Some people will always want a DD or not want to spend 4X for a small improvement

Yeah, a lot of people stop at $400ish. EM10, Hype 4, Dusk. Above those, you start paying crazy money for small improvements. If you want a tribrid with ESTs, that is the exception, that puts you in $600ish range or buy one used.

Yeah, don't buy an impedance adapter. I used a 18ohm which is one of the lighter ones and that was a ton of bass.

Nice review. Paul, are there any good DD or DD hybrid IEMs that use 2-pin 0.78mm (like the Cadenza) and are harder to drive - benefit from more power? Good tuning and value for money, budget to medium-high price range. Just that I have two modular upgrade cables that are not being used, along with the powerful balanced DAC to use them on of course. Thanks

Harder to drive in that price range are the planars, MP145 maybe. If you just bought a new balanced dac, go back and listen to your sets, don't buy new ones. Most sets sound better with a bit more power, they don't need to hard to drive.

@@PaulWasabiiNot looking for planars at the moment, unless it's a hybrid with a DD (Symphony I think is the KZ model and I might pick that up later on sale). I had this balanced DAC (I got a second balanced one) for sometime, and got them to drive my planars and some others that just sound better (synergy) on balanced cables for some reasons. I even prefer to listen to the TRN MT4 Pro on the (RedChain) balanced cable. I listen to rock, metal, electronic, etc. music loudly at times - not too long to damage hearing 😊

Just go with SM4. As I said, the justification for EM10 will be for people who know their hybrid sets well. If you are just looking at general appealing tuning, SM4 is the value king.

Do you prefer the EM10 more or Dusk?

I would be fine with either one and I EQ both. You want to know what pushes Dusk over the top for me, the 2DD. And its slightly cheaper. I mentioned the SImgot DD impact on most of their sets is tame, they tend to smooth it over in tuning. If you eq it back in on Dusk with 2DD, that is still much better than EQ'ing EM10. I also like Dusk's driver package. I know most people never EQ'd it and just use the dsp cable, but yeah, Dusk is a very nice set. If you have a few DD+BA hybrids, you might still prefer that high BA sound of EM10. I think that appeals to people who have been in the hobby a while, it sounds closer to its peers where Dusk as a planar in there which isn't perfect for everyone. I'd be fine with either one, but I am a sucker for a 2DD.

It is different and I would look at it along with other recent hybrids. The SuperMix 4 is closer where EM10 competes with a different set of IEMs around its price range.
