Thanks much Mark, good stuff. Being a new VR chap, this stuff is way above my head. I would be a happy camper. Anyway, appreciate you sharing!!

Do keep in mind, when looking at a KZbin video, it’s just a mirror of what he sees but it’s not exactly what you’re seeing through the lens. Mark would have to video with a device through the actual lens in order to see the clarity, and even then it’s not quite accurate.

Thanks for all of these VR videos. Recently purchased the Oculus 2 Quest. Although, your recent VR videos are geared towards MSFS, I believe you used to be a P3d guy? Strangely enough, I find better results flying VR in my P3d v5.1, than I do with MSFS 2020. Just better clarity. I also can see my AI traffic (UTL) through the headset, although I keep on very low setting. I'm not a computer wiz, but maybe since I'm using a Nvida 1080, it responds better to the older tooling of P3d, vs MSFS?? My system is Core i7 8700k 3.7 ghz, 32 gig ram. I was wondering if you've recently looked at the difference in VR between the 2 sims??? I have followed many of your suggestions for MSFS 2020, although I still can't get my mixed reality out of the "connect to headset" mode. Have updated Windows 10, and reinstalled mixed reality 2-3 times. Can't get it going. I would love to have a 3080 video card. But, just not in the budget at this time. Thanks!

Any idea what the Oculus equivalent is to the OpenXR Developer Tools Custom Render Scale? I know that motion reprojection is approximately equivalent to Oculus ASW (Asynchronous SpaceWarp) and can be found in the Oculus Debug Tool, but there is no obvious scaling tool in the Oculus Debug Tool so I am not sure how I can make sure that there is no scaling happening outside of this new OpenXR Toolkit tool. All I can do is set the MSFS 2020 in-game scaling to 100% and hope that Oculus is not doing any other type of scaling on its own. With all these places to make settings adjustments, you need a phd in knob twiddling to use VR these days.

Just trying to track down all places, in all the associated software, where image scaling should be set to 100%. Well, I'm trying. I got my G2 the other day and it was amazingly easy to set up. I've followed all your videos on ideas for performance settings, and while I can get 32fps (via OpenVR) the sharpness seems off. What settings do you recommend I look at to address my sharpness issues? Is it because I wear bi-focal lenses? I've also tried it while wearing no glasses. Also, is there a 'transparent' option on the G2? For example, with the Oculus Quest you can step outside the 'play' area and get a grayed-out view of the room. It would be handy to have this option, so I don't have to take off the headset to type something on the keyboard.

@ParallaxEffect2 жыл бұрын
@@get_outdoors well 90% render scale on a g2 will look the same sharpness to everyone (if you turn off in game sharpening, follow the guide etc etc). Then the q is, perhaps you think even 90% is not sharp, which, if you’re coming from xplane for example is fair. Xplane can run at a much higher render scale because it’s a simpler program. It looks sharper for sure. MSFS in my opinion has always looked blockier especially at lower scales. I mean the dials etc are fine but the world looks soft and blocky. I think it’s just because our eyes and the headset resolution ideally want it to run at 150% but not until 2025 will we have hardware that allows it ;).

@TobyDarkZero I too have a Quest 2 and after spending days and days trying to improve the image quality, I have given up. It is simply not good enough for flightsim VR and it's not that good even for google earth, racing sims and other apps. It's just too blurred, too washed out and VERY POOR performing. I'm not convinced that the Reverb is that much better. Unfortunately it is going to take another generation before VR is viable, unless you enjoy tweaking for a living, and even then the results are very disappointing.
@ParallaxEffect2 жыл бұрын
@@fingerhorn4 simply not true VR flight sim needs another generation. I have a reverb g2 and it’s incredibly sharp, and now with the color tweaks, great colors too. With re projection you can run it at 90fps. And with a good graphics card most settings on ultra or high. It looks spectacular.
@fingerhorn42 жыл бұрын
However noble XR toolkit is, and all the other tweak tools, the fact is that VR is still light years behind what any sensible person could call useable in MSFS. It is just too jerky, too shimmery, too washed out, too shakey, too headachy, a right pain to set up, a complete pain to troubleshoot, far too expensive, and nowhere near being good enough. For the same amount of cash layout, I could buy a fantastic 52 inch monitor and have cash to spare for extra controllers, gizmos, double my RAM, upgrade my GPU, upgrade my CPU and it still would not cost anywhere near the top-end VR headset prices. I feel the whole methodology of producing a 3d moving image is just not working and needs a radical re-think.
