In this video, we compare some of the similarities between Turkish and Serbian, two languages that belong to different families. Contact us on Instagram if you have any questions or feedback:
Bahador (@BahadorAlast): / bahadoralast
The Turkish language (Türkçe), which is also referred to as Istanbul Turkish, is the most widely spoken of the Turkic languages, with most of its native speakers living in Western Asia, and significant group of speakers in Germany, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Northern Cyprus, Greece, the Caucasus, and other parts of Europe and Central Asia. Ottoman Turkish, which was a variation of the Turkish spoken today, influenced many parts of Europe during the time that the Ottoman Empire expanded. When the modern Turkish republic was established, one of Atatürk's Reforms consisted of changing the Ottoman Turkish alphabet with a Latin alphabet. Today, Turkish is recognized as a minority language in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Iraq, Macedonia, and Romania. The Serbian language (српски / srpski) is the standardized variety of the Serbo-Croatian language mainly used by Serbs, and the official language of Serbia, and one of the three official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a minority language in Montenegro, as well as in Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Serbian is the only European standard language uses both Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.
The Serbian Revolution in the early 19th century, which was a rebellion against the Ottomans as a struggle for independence led to the formation of an autonomous Serbia, marking the foundation of modern Serbia. Two centuries have passed since that time, and the Serbs were never influenced by the religion of Islam, having maintained Orthodox Christianity. However, the Serbian language and cuisine has been heavily influenced by Turkish. The Ottoman conquest led to linguistical contact between Turkish and South Slavic. Besides Turkish loanwords, also many Arabic and Persian words which had been adopted by the Turks, called "Orientalisms", entered the languages of the Balkans. Many of these words are no longer considered loan words.

LOL, being a native speaker of Kazakh(Turkic family) and Russian(Slavic family) languages allowed me to understand A LOT of stuff from both Turkish and Serbian. alperen kral well, yes, most of the words in this video have Turkish(or maybe even old Persian) origins. But, I was talking about languages in general, about the "bizarreness" when you read or hear a language from the same language family of your mother tongue. In my case, I know one Turkic language and one Slavic language which automatically opens "the Gates" to each language family. I'm not even talking about the amount of loan words from Old Persian, Arabic(in Kazakh language) and German and French(in Russian language) which once again can give you some advantages in understanding or learning one of these languages. P.S. Thanks to Bahador for giving us an opportunity to talk to each other and share knowledge/experience.

Basicly Turkish was derived from Ural-Altay Language Family that is spoken in Middle Asia. But after Turks established their cities in Anatolia and Eurasia they have taken and given a lot of words there. So Turkish is like an octopus that has many limbs all over the world’s different languages.

For ex, serbians and ottomans, together fought against timur state invasion in ankara war, history tells serbians tried save and protect ottoman şah beyazid in battlefield while some turk origin tribes were passing timur 's side. but as I say I believe societies must determine their future in an absolute manner.

İsimsiz Kişi Slavic is a linguistic group. Not a phenotype . As you can see the south slav here is darker than the Turk .
@Daurentius322
@Daurentius322 4 жыл бұрын
@@zzzr6765 Slavic is postulated as being a linguistic term but the thing is, the nations that are labeled under this term actually also consist of 2 genetic groups that are found in all the people that are labeled as Slavic, in most cases you will find that Northern and Western Slavic speakers have more of R1A and a lower percentage of I2A and Southern Slavic speakers have the exact opposite, meaning a much lower makeup of R1A but a substantially higher percentage of I2A. So in essence the term can also be used as a phenotype since the genetic information does have similarities with the only difference being the ratios of said markers. Also, because that guy is "darker" does not mean that the skin complexion you see in this video is his natural color, I am a Serb and am extremely pale but in summer time, if I spend a lot of time outdoors I can become as dark as him even though it is not my natural color, would that then also mean that I am a Turk because of the probability that I can have a darker skin complexion? Of course not, that would be silly.
@zzzr6765
@zzzr6765 4 жыл бұрын
xilus My dads also south slav and naturally tan. Genetics don’t always equal phenotype . And not all Slavs have 12A . There’s even different phenotypes within the same ethnic background. R1a is also present in Greeks. all Slavs are phenotypically the same . And you’re proving my point east and west Slavs have different genetic % . South Slavs also have J2 and E . Lastly I didn’t say being tan makes you turk if anything I’m saying the exact opposite!

in a sentence where she uses word 'sabah' and the hint word is plaža I actually recognized the word sabah because in Serbia people often use word 'sabajle' to point that someone got up very early or something happend early in the morning, for example 'budan sam od sabajle' which means I am awake from early in the morning, and I heard in turkish series people say sabah, sabah twice in similar context
@aysegulkara1752
@aysegulkara1752 2 жыл бұрын
We say it twice to emphasize the time. Let's say you are drinking alcohol in the morning and I think it's too early. I would say: "Sabah sabah içki mi içiyorsun?" (Are you drinking in the morning?) I could also say it just once but the meaning would be less powerful.

My boyfriend and I do this all the time! He is Turkish and I am Serbian. For years we’ve been logging same words. It’s super fun. Even though Serbian was the official language in the Ottoman Empire, we have (naturally) picked up so many words as well. History is messed up as most of it is, but today, there are so many wonderful things we can enjoy as a result of things like that. Having an awesome time decoding each other’s language is one them! Though the video is complete I do suggest that she enunciate more. That’s what made it difficult for me to understand her sentences as well because she says them so fast. Serbians REALLY enunciate and we have a couple more grammatical cases and so we transform some of our words differently.
