I've looked at tens/hundreds of reviews on routers and your's are definitely some of my favourites. Actually just decided to buy one of these as opposed to the flagship Asus/Linksys routers. I have 3 questions: 1) Are you able to test this out on Destiny? Does it have any effect? 2) Will this work with a Sky Hub? (I'm currently looking into this myself) 3) How does it perform with wireless devices? I have a mum that doesn't understand why she should disconnect a device she isn't using, and so we usually have a whole load of devices connected at one time, usually around 8 wireless devices (PS3, phones, tablets, laptops).

TheNEF11 As you access the netduma via a webbrowser it should work with any home computer, including a Mac. Initially you will need to connect to via an ethernet cable, setup wifi, and then you will be good to go to use if wirelessly. It only supports 2ghz wifi, and not the 5ghz. Hopefully future models will support 5ghz, but the 2ghz has excellent range.

I don't know much about routers so bear with me please. I have a Ubee DVM326 and it's constantly disconnecting from xbox live and I get mediocre connection speeds. In comparison, is this router way better? It's clear it offers some great features for gaming, but does it also offer high-end connection speeds that can compete with something like the netgear nighthawk (which I heard is phenomenal)??

***** I understand that the next netduma firmware update will offer download speeds of 900mbps. No ETA on when the firmware will arrive. I cannot comment on the nighthawk, but I do know that it is popular over in NA. Regarding your router with random disconnects, could be an ISP issue, a firmware issue on router (is there new firmware out there), or some configuration option. Is there a keepalive option? Google may help.

Corrosive gaming You can set and forget. So no you don't need to leave a pc switched on and connected to the router. The geo-filter only guarantees that the host is within the region you specify. It is then up to the match making server for that particular game, what players get put into the lobby. So yes you can have players from larger distances join, and they would be noticeably laggy. In Ghosts (PS3) and Advanced Warfare (XB1), this has been rare.

RADDY 1993 I assume you are referring to 1:58 in the video. All done in post production via video editing software. Two layers, the screen captured version (web page, PC screen) and elgato footage on the top layer, repositioned and scaled.

aka4LI45 When I originally saw the box I was wondering if it had wifi as there was no antennas. Yeh, shame about the 5 Ghz, but of course still available to me via my existing router. The only issue is game consoles on one network, and home PCs and tablets on another network. Thus cannot talk to each other without using a feature called bridge mode which is only available on the wifi and not on ethernet for my tp-link. Bridge mode is not supported by the netduma.

I undid the throttling on my TP Link and used the R1's throttling capability. So technically you should be able to plug the R1 into your netgear and have fun.

Well i finally got mine working at i must its simple but effective. Is it THE LAG FIX, no no its definately not, but it helps. Nothing we as users can do to combat lag when its already built into the game. No router or connection in the world can over come the bs built into this game especially when you already start with 100+ ms before the game even starts.

So i have done some ping testing like we talked my pc woes wired to router and no other devices were using net. First the internet speed woes depended on a server speedtest.net connected to while testing i dont know if its importatnt or not bot sometimes the speedtest.net connects to just one serv and for 10 times testing its shows my avrego of 106.5 and 6.2 Then they are times when its completely unstable and speedtest.net connects to different serv the the VIRGIN MEDIA mentioned above and when that hapens the the can be anything for 15 to 95 download and 1 to 6 upload. Like i sad i dont know if this is just an issue of speedtest.net or its my isp what do you think?

And now the Ping this is interesting one First i did it late at night with in 10 to 15 min time i did 10 test 5 times it connected me to GB serv called COVENTRY in distane of 100mi result s woes ping 34 jitter 25, then ping 23 jitter 5, then ping 22 jitter 2, then ping 22 jitter 2, then ping 51 jitter 64. Then 4 of 10 times i got connected to german serv in FRANKFURT in distance of 400mi the results woes ping 43 jitter 27, then ping 31 jitter 2, then ping 31 jitter 2, then ping 55 jitter 51. 1 time of 10 it connected me to Netherlands serv called ULTRECHT in distance of 250 mi and the result woes ping 41 jitter 9 and on all of the tests woes 0 % packet loss. Now i did this same tiest in the morning and 10 times out of 10 i woes connected to GB serv coventry in distance of 100 mi and the results woes something between 21 to 23 ping and 1 to 4 jitter 0% packet loss on all of them. Becouse of that i did test ping to German , Irish and Netherlands serv that morning. Results woes GERMAN SERVER distance 400mi i tested it 5 times in a raw ping woes from 30 to 32 and jitter form 1 to 3 zero packet loss IRISH SERV distance 400mi ping woes from 47 to 49 jitter form 2 to 5 0% packet loss again i did it 5 times in a raw an fainly NETHERLAND serv distance 250mi again tested it 5 times in a raw results woes ping between 40 to 44 an jitter from 6 to 11 0 % packet loss what do you think

Lukasz Malankowski Wow that is bad. The one thing you want is for your jitter to be low and constant, i.e. 0 - 3. Now for your ISP your jitter is all over the place and unacceptable for online gaming. I would suggest phoning your ISP. You will not be the first Virgin customer who has had to do this. I know other gamers who had the same problem. This is why I went with BT. Saying that, I believe my friend got it sorted after phoning Virgin. So pick up the phone and tell them that your ping and more importantly your jitter is all over the place. Having jitter of 51 - 64 is unacceptable. No wonder your online gaming experience is not good.

Helo its me again so i did some more testing and the mornings seems to be totally fine bot. Afternoon s and latter its about 40 % bad ping. And a lot of jitter another thing i did today testing on my cousins BT in eving and it woes even worse then my one so maybe its area thing we live in central london betwen 2 tube lines and overground line i will give them a call tomorrow and i just realized that i had very unstable net at the being and virgin technician put a iron filter on coax cable just before the router he sad that what it does is that it sends only the good signal to the router so i dont have to rebot the router ever again what do you think about that

im zest If I understand correctly, you have a modem/router all in one box. The answer should be a definite yes, as you plug one cable from you xfinty to the R1, and then put all other devices into the R1. Probably best you assign the R1 a reserved IP address on your xfinty for smooth running. You may need to put it into a DMZ, and if you run into any serious problems the netduma support via their forum is fantastic.

I guess I am still trying to understand this device. If you connect to only people in your general area, than that means that the people you are also playing with are playing with people in the general area, you included. So all your Pings should roughly be the same. So you eliminate the ping (lag) issue but everyone in the game your in, benefits everyone. In the PC world (where I play) I do not think you will get that many people in your area to start a game lol. Am I missing something here?

However, I do know that there are certain features available to PC gamers as network traffic is not encrypted like it is on consoles. Yes the Geo-filter will work with wifi. The four device options you have on the router are not actually for your four available Ethernet ports (that's a pure coincidence!) but are for gamers who have multiple gaming devices e.g. Xbox, PS4 and a PC. (Great video by the way Sim)

If you have an R1 slide the congestion controls way down to throttle and it will make the game more playable. Next firmware update will allow you to apply upload & download speed controls to your console/gaming machine direct.

Kevin Doremus Yes it can. Typical setup for existing home users is either (1) Modem -> Router -> console or (2) Modem/Router -> Console. You simply take an ethernet cable and plug it into your existing router, and plug it into the port marked PoE on the R1. Then plug ethernet cable from console into one of the 4 ethernet ports on the R1. Pretty much done. I will be doing a Sim's setup video.

Kevin Doremus Right. I understand but surely your console (i'm assuming you game on console) does not need 900mb all the time. So main router you got now, serves your PC and house. Plug-in the R1 into that router, to server your console gaming needs. You then get the best of both worlds.

VPN = virtual private network; used to protect against DDoS attacks. Most people will not need to use it. What is your upload download ISP speeds? I generally have the congestion sliders set to 95%, but when I experience the 1-2seconds behind effect, I will slide them typically down to 70%, sometimes evenmore.

+Rainy Nights You will never stop lag completely, but you can reduce it. Either using a netduma to ensure gaming against local players, and/or by reducing your internet speed if you have high speed internet such as what you have.

It is the lag compensation mechanisms of the games themselves that introduce that 2 second behind feeling. High internet speed from a networking perspective is less lag (ISP dependent). Pingtest.net will give you a good idea. If you ping a server in your country using that service and it is less than 20ms, you got good connection.

If it is only you gaming in the house, and nobody else is using the internet the the upload speed is sufficient for online gaming. Ping is acceptable.

Brian Fury Have you got strict mode enabled. Also you can use the global sliders on the congestion control to throttle. Next firmware update (still no indication of when being released) will allow you to throttle download (not just upload like now) on the bottom part of the congestion control page. If I remember correctly, you game late at night, and thus you will be put against Americans, or players on the other side of the world at that time of night. I could see it via the geo-filter page on the router, where the matchmaking servers are trying to put me with players on the other side of the world. This is where the geo-filter helps. Big time!

Lukasz Malankowski Well virgin and BT are the main two choices for the UK. What does pingtest.net report for you. Make sure you do it on a PC via ethernet cable, and that nobody else in house is using internet to get something reliable. It will naturally vary at different times of day. I would expect somewhere around 20ms. Less than 30ms for sure.

This game has built in lag even in split screen mode , I noticed this in cod years ago in cod 4 and even halo 3..
